Graphic Designer Q&A

Not tagging anyone! Anybody can feel free to answer the following ♡

1. How long have you been designing?
- I started designing on AFF around 2012, I think, back on my old account girlwhocriedluhan under the shop AYOgraphics (which I eventually moved to this account). I used to do poster work for Winglin as well, nothing good at all since I'm pretty sure I used either MS Paint or Photobucket's editing tool... I've taken a lot of hiatuses since I started designing though, only picking it up again recently, so it's probably less than the 6 or so years total.

2. What do you use to design?
- Currently it's Adobe Photoshop CS6! I used to work on GIMP and only started on Photoshop around 3 - 4 years ago. As mentioned in the previous question, I used just about everything available back then to make a poster as well. Paint, Photobucket... I think this one application called Picasa? Man, I don't even know anymore.

3. What's your first ever poster? What's your latest poster?
- So I scrolled through my Imgur account for when I started on AYOgraphics, and I'm crying in Jeju, here's my first AFF poster request:

- And this is my latest poster as of March 11, 2018! I'm pleased with it now, but I was also pleased with my work 6 years ago, so it just goes to show how much one can never stop improving :') I did notice that I was more carefree about my works before though, now I'm rarely ever completely satisfied with a design...

4. Which genres are your strengths?
- I think I'm pretty comfortable with a lot of genres. I enjoy romcom since I like working with the bright colors and cute fonts, also animation if it's required since there's a lot you can do with animation for romcom posters! I also enjoy working on darker themes or angsty ones, since I like working with textures and setting the mood for it.

5. Which genres are your weaknesses?
- I haven't really done much work for fantasy, sci-fi, and supernatural posters so I guess I can say these are my weakest genres.

6. What's your design style?
- I don't think I have a specific style since what I do depends a lot on the request I get. I definitely love working with animation and colourings. Normally, if I had to design on my own free will, I use a lot of textures and transparent resources, mixing them together. I'm definitely not the minimalist type since I usually can't stand things without a hint of organized chaos.

7. Do you own a graphic shop?
- I currently have LOST Graphic Studio that I run along with a few other designers and also bliss graphics, something I opened recently that's a paid shop where I'm the sole designer. I'm not sure if I'll keep LOST open just yet or close it down soon, since I've been a bit too busy to keep up with the shop's system. I used to have AYOgraphics, which was a no rules graphic shop, but no rules got tiring really quickly since some people took advantage of that... Shameless plug, look out for bliss, opening soon! Click the banner to check things out. ♡

8. Do you work for a graphic shop?
- I also work for TIMELAPSE although I've been on hiatus recently due to being busy and whatnot.

9. Are there any designers you look up to?
- Definitely! I remember starting out that I was absolutely in love with vanivici's work and I still am, but a lot more designers have been added to the roster throughout the years. I won't be able to list down everybody whose style I like, but I do like the style of my fellow designers at TIMELAPSE and also everybody who works for The Mix House, another amazing graphic shop. There's more, but yeah.

10. What's your favourite poster to date?
- This is tricky because I like a lot of my current work (of course I do, I wouldn't allow them to be released if I wasn't!) and I can't pick a favourite... If I had to pick a specific few, then it'll probably be the ones I have displayed on my mini portfolio over at bliss graphics. Here's a random one I like:

11. What's your least favourite poster to date?
- Well, probably anything I did before I started on LOST Graphic Studio? Not everything per se, since I do have some works from before that I still like... I also have current works that I don't like or am iffy with. Maybe my GIMP Era posters, since looking through everything makes me want to just list all the posters down as an answer to this question. Let me pick out a random one as an example so ya'll can judge for yourselves:

12. How long does it usually take for you to finish a poster?
- The shortest it's taken for me to design a poster is probably less than an hour. I honestly, don't usually take days on one poster once I've started on it, so I really only ever have delays in designing a poster when I'm busy. The longest straight designing I've had is probably just a few hours; I tend to get stuck on the text a lot or looking for photos. Usually, it's definitely quick work.

13. Do you have a portfolio?
- My current portfolio can be found here. It's not always updated since uploading new photos take time and good internet, both of which I have none of, but they're my newest works. If ya'll wanna see more of my old works and cringe with me, you can also visit my Imgur portfolio which I only stopped updating a few years ago

14. Do you join graphic contests?
- Yes, I do! I've been joining since I started designing, actually, although I haven't really won anything. The closest I have now is I'm currently a finalist for FERMATA, but I also have a few entries for other graphic contests. I wonder what happened to those...

15. If you write stories, do you make your own posters?
- That depends, really, but I think I have to say no. I really prefer seeing other people's work for my stories for some reason, although I have a few wherein I made the posters, but I'm probably going to change them soon... I only put posters for chaptered stories so far, except for my future yesterday because I found a shop that I loved to see make the poster for it, so yeah.

This was a refreshing read!! Its always to see what kind of creative posters the aff community houses. I loved your development, you improved a lot and i believe all designers can relate to you. May i repost this for my own blog? Hehe
