Your feelings of loss and grief are valid…

Too often I see people put down others or even themselves when it comes to grieving the loss of a celebrity because they are "simply an idol and not someone you knew in your personal life". I don't think that's right. Your feelings of loss and grief are valid. Even if the idol didn't know you personally, they loved you (idols love their fans, and kpop idols especially not only say how much they love their fans constantly, but they also show it through their actions on a regular basis), and you knew and loved them extremely well. So please let yourself be sad or angry or whatever else you need to to get through this. Purging emotions is how our souls heal.

So find a quiet place and cry your heart out, beat up a pillow, eat a bucket of ice cream, or write your feelings out through poetry or a story. Do whatever you need to deal with it in a healthy, safe way.

And for anyone who is having a hard time doing that, or if you simply need an anonymous person to help you work through what you're feeling, here is a list of some suicide prevention hotlines:

(You do not need to be on the brink of suicide to call these hotlines. They are there to help anyone struggling in any way)

I did what you encouraged and wrote down all my feelings and almost cried my eyes out.... and I yelled and screamed when i found that bad news from my friend that unfortunate morning.....I will never understand why jonghyun did what he did but I hope he rest in peace now. We can only accept it and move on. Thank you for being there with your presence and your music you helped me in my difficult times. I wish him happiness and peace in his next life. Let's welcome this year with his memories and better feelings. and Thank you my friend for being so sweet and caring by making this helpful post :)

I personally really think this is an important message. When Prince died this year everyone who was from that era was mourning. When Selena (Latina singer) died, everyone adored her and was crying and mourning, and when Jonghyun passed a few days a ago, it wasn't any different. People make music, or do other things with their talents that really make you feel emotions. And not just feelings, EMOTIONS. The kind of emotions that make you want to cry and scream because you relate or you feel the transfer of emotion. And you create a bond. So what you say is true. When you feel sad, when you feel anything, especially emotions of grief, loss, or sadness, it should not be invalidated. Mental health is important, and we can't let people around us feel the same things Jonghyun did that led him to do what he did. We have to look out for eachother. We have to mourn with each other, move on with each other, and most importantly remember with each other. So yes, it is extremely saddening that this happened to Jonghyun. But we have to look out for each other and ourselves. We have to make sure that the people closest to us are being taken care of. We have to let ourselves be sad, and not be guilty, but we also have to move on. Rest in peace Jonghyun. And to everyone who is reading this, don't let anyone make you believe that your feelings aren't real or that they are exaggerated. Kim Jonghyun was a wonderful person, and if you feel sad because of his sudden departure, do not feel as if you shouldn't be mourning just because you weren't his sister, parent, or bandmate. Remeber Jonghyun, but don't let it ruin your life. One of the best ways to deal with these kinds of things is to just get back into the routine. And remeber, moving on doesn't mean forgetting. Please take care of yourselves, and remeber that the numbers above work. And you should not feel afraid to use them. Ever.

Fans live alongside their idols. You have a feeling of appreciation and understanding for your idols as you Stan them throughout the years. I will miss Jonghyun's laughing the most. (^__^)

Thank you for writing this. I enjoyed SHINee's music and combined with various other bands, they shifted my life in a whole new direction. Although I wasn't an avid follower of the group, I really appreciated them and it came as an absolute shock that, after so many years down the line, this happened.
I don't think anyone should feel that they don't have the right to grieve. We've shared in his music and come together through it. I still can't believe he is gone.
