at the age of 13 (2008), her parents saved up enough money to sign her up for a dance class. it was during this class that she found her true passion- performing. for a while, she considered studying musical theatre, but this was the same time that she discovered Wonder girls and instead leaned towards becoming an idol. although she was slowly improving, being in the school choir wasn't enough. by age 16 (2011), she decided to join a school club that covered kpop songs. this is where she really started to grow- she learned techniques better suited to idol performances, and actually competed at little talent shows. her parents always assumed that it was just something she enjoyed as a stress relief, not a real pursuit, so when she asked if she could audition for companies at age 17 (2012), they said no. after a lot of pestering, her father agreed only if she was about to place at a talent show. it took a full year, but her group finally won second place, and both her parents agreed to her auditioning. she auditioned at a handful of small companies, getting callbacks from Yedang entertainment, and cube entertainment. after the second audition, she was accepted into yedang entertainment at age 18 in 2013.
