scotty : "scotty!" scott winces at the frivolous voice yelling out this hateful nickname, planting his head on the table with a loud thud and emitting a loud groan as lucas waltzes into the cafe. "your nickname is scotty?" shinha blurts incredulously. "no!" "yes!" scott and lucas yell respectively. a tiny smile spreads across shinha's face and she chuckles to herself as she repeats the name. scott swivels around in his chair and glares dagger at the other boy. "what the , lucas?" lucas shrugs, an impish grin creeping its way onto his face. "what's wrong, scotty?"

scott jumps up, knocking back the chair with a clatter, making lucas flinch. "I swear to god, one day I will kill you, and I will definitely enjoy doing so." scott whispers in rapid english. "no, you won't," lucas confidently said, leaning on the counter. "if you killed me you'd have no friends." "don't converse like I'm not here," shinha hisses. reverting back to korean, scott fixes his steely gaze back on lucas. "why are you even here?" 

"I'm bored." lucas announces, spreading his arms. scott smiles and raises a slender middle finger. "get out." "but scotty-" "get out." lucas frowns and flounces off to the convenience store opposite.

"he'll be back after he's bought some tteokbokki, eh, scotty?" shinha grins.

the wrong one : "so, why are you extra mean today, scotty?" lucas asks as he pokes on another piece of tteokbokki, pushing the plate to shinha who has a knife poised. "I'm not being mean to you." scott gruffly replies. "ah," lucas smiles, his eyes twinkling, "that's where you're wrong, o wrong one," he says the last three words in english. shinha sniggers, knowing what the nickname means. 

scott closes his eyes and heaves a sigh. "do you exist to annoy me, lucas hwang jiseok?" lucas nods. "glad you noticed."

this name comes from the one time lucas was pestering scott again and scott wanted to say "what is wrong with you?" and "stop bothering me!" at the same time and ended up screeching "what is wrong with me??" in english. lucas burst out in laughter, and spread the nickname to everyone in the cafe. 

january : scott's phone pings and he practically leaps onto it. lucas raises a brow. "I thought you turned off all your kakao notifs, scotty." scott looks up and blinks. twice. "uh. I did." "then what was that? that was obviously the kakao, uh, squeal." "uh-" scott ekes out before lucas jumps forward and grabs his phone. "july! you have my notifs turned off but have your notifs on for some girl?" lucas sputters in mock disbelief. "and- for 's sake january," lucas reads the english text message out loud. "she calls you january? as in january and july? what is this, a couple name? oh my god, I knew it, you're so whipped. oh my god. oh my god. oh my god, scott song jaehwan is completely wh-" scott flies a file in lucas's face. 

scott had once stated that july really fit her name with her bubbly personality, and the girl had replied that although scott was born in july, he didn't fit his birth month at all and his prickliness made him more like a january baby.

english : mothertongue, fluent. born and raised in long island, it's only natural for scott to speak with this embarrassing accent "me? I'm from lawng aylan, yuh?" able to listen, speak, read and write with ease ( his handwriting is really neat as well- it's squared and it's not exactly pretty to look at, but it's consistently tidy and he breaks the stereotypes that essays written by males are an eyesore to read through ), he's updated on slang despite living in korea now and his instagram captions frustrate other staff because "scotty, how the do you catch hands?" "maybe if you didn't call me scotty I would tell you, shinha." 

korean : intermediate. heavily accented yet somewhat fluent, scott learned the basics of the language as he grew up and used it during phone calls with relatives, but other than that, he was practically a stranger at the language when he touched down at incheon airport four years ago. however, he picked up the language pretty quickly and can now maintain daily conversation without difficulty- just don't engage him in a debate unless you want a good laugh.

APPEARANCE  scott's appearance emanates his stoic self- towering at 182cm and yet underweight at 57kg, his lanky frame looks like something that belongs on the cover of vogue korea. under the layers of clothes he always has on though, you'll be able to see that he practically has no muscle- yeah, you can see a silver of a six pack, but that's only because he's too thin. the culture of hustling and bustling in the new york city led to him getting a left helix piercing when he was seventeen- he believes it's the reason why he gets so many glances as he walks along the seoul streets. walking definition of a resting face, scott always has a steely gaze, his monolids adding to his air of so-called authority. the angular jaw, thick brows ( that make july so, so jealous ) and long face only make him look even more unapprochable. his hair is a natural jet black, the middle part styled neatly and the fringe rarely messed up.

scott's style is decent- pretty good for a guy, to be honest. society doesn't really require males to be stylish, leading to a bunch of people with a hollister t shirt and pants that reach their knees with a pair of sneakers. scott isn't like that. he's not exactly bold in his fashion choices, but he knows how to match colours and utlises his numerous articles of oversized hoodies and sweaters well.

if you want to find scott, chances are, he's at sapinca, sitting at the counter and trying very very hard not to nod off as petit biscuit blares from his basic- beat by dres. people come in to game, and he raises his eyes lazily to meet their gazes, before accepting their money and pointing them to a random computer without moving an inch from his seat.

it's hard to get scott moving, and that can be attributed to his complete apathy to most of his surroundings. before lucas frequented sapinca, shinha genuinely thought the boy had no emotions. only ever seen with a silver of a smile on his face after his sharp words and stoic demeanor scare away some drunk customers, nothing but harshness pours out of his mouth ( unless you're july ) as he sees no use in shrouding words and favours being extra mean to people. awkward around new people and generally too scared to exit his comfort zone to foster new relationships, he uses words to protect himself. there are some poeple who seem perpetually mean but you can feel they're just joking or that's how they show affection for their friends — that's not the case for scott. he just seems like a major who doesn't care about other people's feelings and is egoistic as .

in reality? scott's just... really scared. back in long island, he was scared of being judged for his heritage and in korea he's not used to the different environment. but he's been taught to not show weaknesses, so he tries to show nothing but masculinity and ends up having to swallow back caring words. he's the type to lightly drape his jacket if he sees july asleep at her computer or silently pass lucas some watter when the latter starts coughing because he's still not used to the korean spiciness. and yet, when people thank him for his caring actions, he turns up his nose and refuses to acknowledge himself or them.

 

SIGNIFICANT HISTORY born on a warm summer day in 1996, scott's parents were second generation korean americans who lived the typical american dream, heading a middle-sized corporation dealing in construction and earning enough to be classified as a middle class family. that didn't prevent the general stigma of asians from subjecting scott to racism. he had his fair share of friends, but that didn't stop the elitist kids at school from chanting about his slanted eyes or his comparatively thinner body structure. he would cry, and it would only induce more jeering. 

his parents decided to indoctrinate him with the traditional idea of masculinity, teaching him to not show affection or feelings and to pent up his feelings inside, to never cry, to only smile when absolutely necessary. this belief moulded scoff into an unwavering teen with a face and still glare. this stopped the bullying, yes, but it didn't stop scott from feeling about the place. fulfulling the general asian stereotype, he was one of the best students at his school, graduating with flying colours and delivering the valedictorian speech.

scott's life was pretty much planned out for him per asian parents' style : he was going to take over their business, get a wife, have some kids, live a routine. it was never explicitly stated he would have to live his life that way, but it was sort of an unspoken expectation that scott knew he would have to fulfill eventually. but when his grandma passed and the family decided to move to korea so they could be with his grandfather, all that changed. his parents just started working at some other corporations scott never bother to learned the name of. he no longer had to study business at hofstra university, he no longer had to take over song constructions ltd. he was free to do anything he wanted. 

however, due to the pattern he's gotten used to, he chose to do global business at seoul national university as he too scared to major in anything else. and right now, he's confused and at a crossroads. he's content being a normal university student, but what comes after in this foreign land? what is he supposed to do after graduating? he has no idea. he and his parents weren't distant, but they weren't close either. they were just there taking care of him and they got along and weren't awkward, but scott would never talk about his emotions with them, prefering to take walks by himself to clear his head instead.

he stumbled upon sapinca by chance when he was thinking, and the help wanted sign left him intrigued - he was bored in korea, so why not?

and for the first time in a long while, scott feels like he has a place in the world.

 

LIFESTYLE  school is mundane for scott. the coursework isn't hard, he listens during lectures, he skips morning classes once in a while, he gets along decently with his project partners ( as he just inputs his opinions and does his work. he tries to not laugh at other peoples' thoughts. ), his essays get high grades. boring to scott. life isn't any better. he'd get home from school and listlessly watch some shows ( kuzu no honkai recently, because july is obsessed with it; he was originally watching elementary. ) he cooks for his whole family, sets some dishes aside for later, and then sleeps or maybe play some games on his phone. he would go out for basketball or watch movies with some friends back in long island, but in korea he had no one and he didn't really like watching korean movies. when he doesn't have school, boredom s him up bad.

life was until sapinca, really. 

now he spends his times leaned back in the receptionist chair, his feet on the table as he and shinha bicker till the end of the earth. he complains when shinha tells him to buy food for the customers or when someone spills some soda and he has to mop it up, but in reality, he's secretly pleased he has something to do. something to look forward to after school. a place where he can talk to his friends, a place where he smiles a lot and has to hide it immediately thereafter. 

if scott was truthful, he'd admit that sapinca was like his sanctuary.

scott met lucas at seoul national uni during their first year, when the professor paired two people up so the students could get to know each other. it was annoyance at first sight for scott, when lucas started rapidly firing off sentences as soon as they sat down together. scott wanted to close his ears and just let the boy rant, but when lucas casually mentioned that he recently moved from long island, scott immediately had a soft spot for the boy. he still annoyed scott, and immensely at that, but he put up with the endless rambling and would grunt in response. he just didn't expect the boy to actually follow him after class ended, still talking. when scott whirled around and asked what he wanted, lucas blinked, clutched his books, and whimpered, "I don't know... I just want someone to talk to." the words mirrored scott perfectly, and that was the start of their unruly friendship.

lucas no longer finds scott intimidating, knowing that the latter is just a bear who, quoting lucas himself "acts all grizzy outside but he gives warm furry hugs." he enjoys teasing the hell out of scott and getting a reaction out of the stoic boy. scott usually responds by glaring, cursing, or throwing whatever's in reach. his proudest moment was, and still is, throwing a slipper square in lucas' face. left a red mark there for hours, and scott laughed so hard he freaked evryone else out.

scott met july when the tiny girl literally bumped into him and lost her balance, falling on the ground in a flurry of papers and books. standing up with a lopsided grin on her face, she stuffed everything into her tote bag, only for the bag to break. as scott tried to hold back his laughter at the girl's confused expression, he heard the familiar voice of lucas' going "OH MY GOD JULY IS THAT YOU?" july's eyes widened and she grasped lucas' hands excitedly as the two jumped in a circle in the middle of the university hallway, garnering stares and embarrassing scott to the fullest. 

lucas introduced july as a middle school friend, but the girl had moved back to korea in year ten. majoring in computer science and engineering, july ended up becoming a part of scott's social circle, and the trio always appear around campus together. july is an avid gamer and anime watcher, so when scott found the existence of sapinca, he told her, and ever since then, you'll always see july holed up at sapinca, scott sitting next to her and looking over her shoulder as she games the night way, occassionally pushing up the glasses that have slid down her nose. july is pretty ditzy in general, oblivious to surroundings and tripping over her own feet frequently; but that changes when she plops down in front of the computer.

scott doesn't understand why he fell for the girl really, or when. he never realy thought his first crush would be on someone so, quoting himself "stupid, dumb, irritating, short..." ( "scott, why are you so mean to me??" ) but there's something about the purity of her mind and how she's always so nice and supportive to him that made his heart beat quicker every time july was around. doesn't help that july gets the cutest shine in her eyes when she excitedly talks about anime.

he clicks his tongue when he's agitated, which means when lucas is around. other times he just lounges around without an expression on his face, oblivious to everything else going on around him. 

shows some signs of dysthymia ( continued emptiness, tiredness, low self-esteem, trouble concentrating ) but he doesn't really notice anything wrong with himself, and other people are used to him being the way he is, so.

holds his alcohol really well. is often seen rifling around for anyone's ( but his ) credit card to pay with when the group is flat out drunk at a pojangmacha.

after lots of pestering by july, he opened an instagram accont with the username scttsng. he never posts anything, just likes stuff. creep.

 

as a third year university student, scott is extremly, extremely terrified of what happens after he graduates. literally keeps him up at night because suddenly he doesn't have anything planned for him anymore.

he can cook really well. it's something he prides himself in. he can literally make anything, from bulgogi to ligurian pesto to tom yam kung, and sometimes brings dosirak to sapinca to share. however, both his parents are terrible chefs. 

drinks nothing but water or chocolate. he hates coffee, energy drinks, soft drinks, anything a normal university student needs to power through. in fact, he drinks soy milk to wake himself up.

can't mesage for . he hates using text language and tends to type out everything with proper grammar and punctuation. paired with the fact he's a slow typer, he never responds to anything in the group chat because by the time he's typed up a response the topic would have changed. just find him in private.

brick buster : user can throw bricks at enemies / smash enemies with bricks. if the brick hits the head, there is a 50% chance the enemy gets dizzy for three seconds. if the brick is thrown, the damage, chance of dizziness and the duration of dizziness is reduced by half. however, if the brick hits the back of the enemy's head, the dizzy effect becomes 100% and lasts for four seconds. if the user jumps when he/she throws the bricks, the distance of the throw is increased. 

sand toss : user throws sand at enemy to deal damage. if the sand hits the enemy's eyes, the enemy experiences blindness. 

apply poison : the user can apply poison to his/her weapon. if the weapon successfully hits the enemy, the user gets on additional chance to attack the enemy without worrying about the enemy's defense.

 

inject poison : a skill that can breaks the enemy's super armour and makes him/her bleed. 

eye for an eye : when the user receives an attack, he/she can add the attack to his/her skill slot and then use the attack. however, the mana consumption is twice the original.

username : unoriginal, but many agree the bland, or positively described, minimalist username fits scott very well. 

avatar : the avatar is literally just scott with blonde hair and an eight pack, because july once said she'd like to see scott with blonde hair, and because any normal fighter would have an eight pack. the avatar wears a black vest, black gloves, black pants and black boots. all black, no patterns, no anything, because scott doesn't really care.

style : never types, just monotonously speaks into the mic, or screams, if he's angry. is the dude who keeps saying people are noobs when he's the first one who dies, and the one who keeps shouting strategies that no one listen to because they all know his strategies are based on theory, not experience. boy is smart theoretically, but things never go the way one plans in games. scott usually just plays by throwing sand at his enemies' eyes and then smashing them with a brick. his finger movements are slow and he doesn't know how to use his skills properly. he tries to be attack, ends up doing nothing. sighs.

level : 54, because he only started playing for july and gave up as soon as he got to level 20 and chose a class. he's levelled up since then because every time july plays, so does he. other times he just stands behind the people who are playing and gives comments.

"glory!" shinha rougly replies without sparing the boy another glance. scott shrugs and murmurs "childish."
"it's not childish, it's fun!" shinha protests, her eyes never leaving the screen. "you'll definitely change your mind if you play."
"mmhmm. no. never." scott saunters away, and the door to sapinca is fung open by july.
"scott! have you played the new game everyone's talking about?" july all but shrieks. 
"uh, no?"
"it's called glory, let's start playing together!" 
"oh. okay."
"seriously, scott song jaehwan?????" shinha yells in sheer disbelief.

july recommended scott to choose brawler "because they look soooo cool!" and he won't change to shinha's team no matter how persuasive and threatening she has been because he doesn't want to leave july's team.
