NA YEJIN!
BIRTH NAME na yejin
NICKNAMES
— jin — her friends back in australia got tired of trying and failing to pronounce yejin (seriously, how hard can it actually be?) so they just decided to call her jin. she's more used to people calling her jin than yejin.
— jinnie — variation of jin. usually used when her friends want something from her.
— chicken delivery girl — she earned this nickname after running into a few other students on one of her deliveries. even people who don't know her well know her by this name.

BIRTHDATE may 13, 2002
BIRTHPLACE busan, south korea
HOMETOWN busan, south korea (though she moved to australia later on)

ETHNICITY korean
NATIONALITY korean
LANGUAGES
— english — 100% — she did live for some time in australia, so it would make sense that she would be able to speak the language. she has a slight australian accent when she speaks.
— korean — 100% — she's okay at speaking in seoul accent where people can actually understand her, but she often finds herself slipping into busan satoori, which she's more comfortable with speaking.

FACE CLAIM park siyeon
BACKUP cheon jaein
APPEARANCE standing at 165cm tall and weighing 46kg, yejin is considered a normal size for her age, however most people would agree that she definitely isn't normal. with clear porcelain skin, bright round eyes and full lips, it's hard to deny that she's really pretty. her slim waist and subtle curves adds to that, and she has long black hair reaching to her lower back. she doesn't like wearing much makeup, mostly because she has no idea how makeup works, so she's pretty much always bare-faced. she has one lobe piercing on each ear and two cartilage piercings on her right ear.
STYLE yejin wears her school uniform properly, though she doesn't really like wearing it. when she isn't in school, her style really depends on her mood that day, but the default is always casual and comfortable. she likes wearing crop tops or oversized sweaters depending on the weather, and she likes wearing either shorts or jeans (again, depending on the weather). she doesn't really like wearing dresses as she feels like it's hard to move around comfortably in them. fun fact: she's been wearing the same pair of sneakers for half a year and she's never been seen without this locket ( x )
PERSONALITY

[ positive ] playful, cheerful, understanding, patient
[ neutral ] selfless, sarcastic, stubborn, perfectionist
[ negative ] insecure, sensitive, secretive, reckless

"na yejin? who's tha—oh, you mean chicken delivery girl? i don't know her that well, but she's always smiling when i see her. i've literally never seen her without a smile on her face ever, but honestly, i think she's hiding something. nobody can be that happy all the time unless they have some sort of big secret they don't want anyone to know." — anonymous student.

"jinnie noona takes care of me really well! she's really patient and understanding, so i can always go to her when i have any problems!" — lee woojin.

"yejin can be quite a child sometimes, but she's really fun to be around. she can get quite sarcastic, though, but it's only when she's upset about something and she's trying not to show she's upset." — lee daehwi.

"i heard from someone in the dance club that she's completely different when she's dancing and when she's not dancing. it's kind of hard to imagine it, though." — anonymous student.

"she likes to see the best in everyone and everything, and she cares way more about other people than she does about herself sometimes. she puts everyone's problems before her own, and i feel like sometimes she needs to worry about herself too." — class x-2's homeroom teacher.

"honestly speaking she's a bit of a perfectionist. she can't stand making mistakes so she alwyas practices until she gets it right. she needs to relax a bit though." — noh taehyun.

"she's really scary when she's in a bad mood. when she's angry, she can say the most hurtful things with the most passive aggressive smile ever." — anonymous student.

"woojinnie likes her more than he likes me." — kang daniel.

but, of course, like every other person, she has another side to her that nobody aside from her knows. ever since what happened in australia and what happened with her brother, her insecurities had started building up, but she'd kept them all to herself because she promised she wouldn't let her problems become other people's. she gets really sensitive to what people say sometimes but of course, being the selfless person she is, she tends to think more about not pressuring other people than speaking out her problems, so she hides them all behind this huge smile and hopes everything will get better if she bottles it up.

BACKGROUND

[ 2002 ]

she hadn't always been known as na yejin. before that, she had been just a girl. a small, parentless child that had been found abandoned outside an orphanage just barely two months after she'd been born. she didn't come with a note, she didn't come with a reason, and she didn't come with a name. all she had was a dirty blanket clasped in her tiny fists and a necklace too big for her around her neck.
when she was found, the orphanage took her in, and the woman who found her named her yejin, hoping she would grow up to be talented and true to herself.

[ 2006 ]

"yejin-ah? sookyung wants to see you!" four-year-old yejin scrambled up, abandoning the picture she'd been drawing and hopped out the door excitedly, following the older kid down the corridor to the main office. sitting in the middle of the room was the woman that had picked her off the doorstep four years ago, and a man and woman who she'd never seen before. she bowed clumsily to the couple, who smiled back at her. sookyung motioned for her to sit down, and she complied, sitting an awkward distance from the two strangers.

sookyung turned to the strangers, flashing a warm smile at them. "this is yejin. yejin, this is na younghwan and his wife, julia larson. from now on, they're going to be your new parents." she could see the proud grins on their faces as they looked at her, and she returned the grin awkwardly. "they're going to be bringing you to australia!"

from then on, she became na yejin. not the nameless girl from four years ago, not the yejin at the orphanage, but na yejin.

[ 2010 ]

yejin tried to ignore the groups of people staring at her or the occasional laugh as she walked into the classroom. she made a beeline straight for her desk, and she froze when she saw the words scrawled all over it. she should've seen it coming. her expression hardened, her eyes not leaving her desk once. comments about her appearance she expected. she'd heard it every day. she skipped over those, but her eyes landed on one comment, written in huge letters across her table. 'your parents didn't want you. we don't want you either. go back to where you came from, maybe you'll fit in there.'

she held back her tears and ran out of the classroom, her ears filled with the sound of laughter. for a split second, she wished she looked like them. she wished she had been born like them so they wouldn't give her such a hard time about it. she wished she could be considered normal.

[ 2011 ]

"what?" yejin's brother yelled, a murderous look in his eyes. she flinched beside him and her parents glanced at each other, worry carved in their faces.

her mother nudged her father, and he spoke again. "i said, we're moving back to korea. we can't stay here anymore. your sister is getting bullied in school and we can't tolerate that. we'll be movin—"

"she's not my sister!" the room became silent and her brother stood up, his eyes full with anger. "she's just a random kid you picked out of the orphanage. stop pretending she's part of our family, because she's not." he turned to glare at a trembling yejin, his cold words cutting her like knives. "you. all you can think about is yourself, right? if you hadn't complained about the 'bullying' we wouldn't be leaving, right? i wouldn't have to leave my friends, my girlfriend, right? but all because of you we're going to leave."

they still moved to korea anyway and yejin would never forget his words.

[ 2017 ]

"haru unnie? can i stay over at your place for a few days?"

haru tilted her head and looked at her friend. "suddenly? why?"

"my parents aren't home and i don't want to be alone," she replied nonchalantly, pulling her hair into a tight ponytail and casually leaving out the fact that whenever her parents went overseas, her brother would kick her out of the house, saying that now their parents were gone, they didn't have to act like they were a family. for the first few times, she'd tried to fight back, but a couple of fights, all of which she'd lost, she knew better than to argue with him. "please?"

"um, i need to ask though."

"thank you~" yejin smiled, pulling her best friend into a tight hug. "you're the best!"

CLASS x-2
CLUB school radio, dance team
SCHOOL LIFE

— yejin is known to be a very good student, getting a's in every single subject aside for in home economics, where she gets b's because her cooking skills are really pulling her grades down. needless to say, that's her least favorite subject, because it's hard to get good scores unless she's lucky. most people know her because, surprise surprise, she delivers chicken, and most importantly, she gets people discounts on chicken, but she wouldn't consider herself as very popular because most people only know her for the chicken and not for who she really is. she doesn't mind though. she's content with her school life just the way it is.

SCHEDULE

[ weekdays ]

7:00 ~ 7:20 am — yejin isn't the best at waking up in the morning. her first alarm goes off at 7:00, but usually, she only gets up by the fourth (7:15) or fifth (7:20) alarm. that's okay though, because it doesn't take her that long to get ready.

7:30 am — she's usually done with a quick shower by this time (she washes her hair after school so she doesn't do it in the mornings) and she starts getting ready for the day. she tends to forget to bring a lot of stuff, so she checks her bag before she leaves.

7:45 am — she skateboards to school and she usually grabs breakfast and lunch when she passes the convenience store near her house.

8:05 ~ 8:15 am — yejin usually arrives at school around this time depending on how long the line at the convenience store was, and she heads to the broadcast room either to help with the morning announcements or actually do the morning announcements for the school radio (eats her breakfast there as well).

8:30 am ~ 3:15 pm — school hours. she goes to all her lessons and does the school radio during breaks.

3:15 ~ 4:00 pm — she has a bit of time before clubs start as the second and third year students don't end class until then so she usually hangs out with hanui, haru or dami. if none of them are available she usually goes to the dance studio early to stretch and get ready.

4:10 ~ 8:00 pm — dance club meets and she usually has dinner with the group. if the club doesn't have to meet that day, she still asks if she can borrow the studio for practice. most of the time nobody has any problems with it. sometimes samuel joins her for the extra practices because he's nice.

8:00 pm — yejin normally starts heading home on her skateboard at this time because she knows her brother won't be home yet so she can safely hide out in her room.

8:15 ~ 8:20 pm — she reaches her house about this time and she cooks ramyeon (the only thing she can cook) for dinner if she hadn't already eaten with the group. she then takes a shower (again) and proceeds to start with her homework.

10:00 ~ 10:30 pm — her brother usually comes home around this time so she gets ready for bed so she wouldn't have to deal with him.

11:00 ~ 11:45 pm — she falls asleep around this time.

[ weekends ]

8:30 am — she doesn't set any alarms for saturdays but her internal alarm usually kicks in at around this time so she wakes up then. she tends to wake up earlier on sundays for church. she gets ready and goes out to buy breakfast.

10:00 am — if she doesn't have service that day she'd either go hunt down minah or samuel to see if they're free for more dancing, or just to do homework together (although it usually ends in just hanging out).

11:00 am — she usually pops in to visit the cafe haru and hanui work at and she'd sometimes drag minah or samuel to the cafe too if she didn't feel like fifth wheeling that day.

12:00 ~ 3:00 pm — she'd eat at the cafe then either stay at the cafe to do homework or leave to do homework somewhere else if she felt like she was bothering the twins too much.

3:00 ~ 8:00 pm — she starts her work at the chicken place this time and occasionally runs into a few of her classmates or sunbaes during her shift.

8:00 pm — her shift ends and she finds a place to eat dinner.

9:00 pm — she arrives home (again by skateboard) and hopes her brother isn't there so she wouldn't have to deal with his complaining.

9:00 ~ 10:30 pm — she usually saves a bit of time to choreograph, and lately, this is the only  time she's found in her schedule to do it.

10:30 pm — she takes a shower and she gets ready for bed.

11:00 ~ 11:45 — she falls asleep around this time.

LIKES

— helping push her friends and their crushes together

— chocolate!!! (you can literally bribe her to do anything with chocolate. well, maybe not anything, but most things)

— singing (though people rarely hear her sing because she's too shy to sing in front of people)

— skinship, but only with people she's close to

— listening to music

— haunted houses (she claims its because haunted houses are fun but mainly it's because it's a good excuse to make their friends get closer with their crushes)

— her favorite time of the day is midnight. when she was small, she used to climb onto the roof at midnight to watch the stars and it calms her down. she still does it whenever she's stressed

DISLIKES

— people who are way too nosy

— when it's raining and she gets wet socks

— letting people down

— thunder

— waking up in the mornings, especially when people pull the curtains open to wake her up

— heels. she can't walk in them, much less run in those things

— when people feel the need to tell her things she already knows

HOBBIES

— dancing

— skateboarding

— choreographing

— trying to find a way to include skateboarding into her dances (key word here being trying)

HABITS

— slipping into english or busan satoori halfway through the conversation and only realises it when she sees the look of confusion on the faces of the people she's talking to

— covering her face with her hair when she's blushing

— fidgets with her locket or grabbing onto the nearest person when she's nervous or scared

— apologizing even when she has nothing to do with what happened

TRIVIA

— literally everyone claims to be close friends with yejin, some because they're actually her friends and most because they have no idea who she is but they know they'll get discounts from the chicken place she works at if they say they're friends with her

— is allergic to seafood

— she keeps pictures of the most important people to her (her friends and her current parents) in her locket

— she learnt dance off watching youtube

— she's ambidextrous, but prefers to use her right hand. it usually comes as a shock to people when they find out she can also write with her left hand

— will hunt you down if you take her food without her permission

— her biggest fear is disappointing people like she disappointed her brother when they had to move. her parents tell her it's not her fault but she can't help but blame herself. her parents have such a hard time dealing with him and it's all her fault and she doesn't want to hurt anyone else anymore

— she's scared her parents will eventually realize how much of a burden she is and send her back to the orphanage.

— she only moved to seoul this year (she had been living in busan previously)

— kang daniel is always asking her what magic she used to make lee woojin like her more than he likes daniel
RELATIONSHIPS

best girl friends  :  lee hanui, lee haru

she met lee hanui and lee haru on the first day of school (for her, because she was sick on the first day and came on the second day). she met hanui first, but that was expected since they are in the same class. yejin had been a bit late on the first day and by the time she arrived in the classroom the only seat left was next to hanui. they started talking, and at lunchtime she had been dragged over to hang out with hanui and her sister. the twins are basically the sisters she never had, and they're always the first ones she goes to when she needs to ask for one of her impromptu sleepovers (aka her parents aren't home and she needs somewhere to stay). they take care of her a lot and they're also the only ones in the school who she's gotten close enough to to tell them about her being adopted.

close friends  :  jeon dami

she became friends with dami when the hanui pulled her over to sit with the group on the first day. dami is one of her closest friends other than the twins, and she's pretty much second person on her 'my parents aren't home so can i stay over at your place' list. currently, dami is trying to teach her how to cook although she's failing miserably, and in return, she's helping her with english, though dami is a bit wary of her accent since every other english speaker dami knows speaks with an american accent and yejin doesn't.

close friends  :  hwang minah

they first met, again, because of the twins. they didn't talk as much when they first met, but they started getting closer when yejin found out they were both in the dance club. minah helps her a lot with certain dance styles she's not that good in, and vice versa, and she usually sticks close with her during dance lessons. minah and yejin like having the occasional dance battle sometimes (though it always ends in a draw because dami and the twins are often too nice to just choose one of them as the winner).

favourite dongsaeng  :  lee woojin

yejin knows it's weird to be close with her best friends' brother, but honestly it's really hard not to be close to woojin. she takes care of woojin like she would take care of a younger sibling and she would always smuggle in food and snacks for him whenever she goes over to haru and hanui's house. also, she somehow managed to convince innocent little woojin into helping her get her friends and their crushes together.

class president / friendly rival  :  lee daehwi

she started getting close to daehwi after accidentally slipping into english halfway through their conversation. she had been ready to apologize, only to be cut off by daehwi answering in perfect english. but however friendly they were, putting two almost straight a students in the same room was basically asking for them to have some sort of rivalry. yejin and daehwi would often be found competing to get better scores than each other, but they ARE friends nonetheless.

INTERVIEW WITH PARK WOOJIN!
"IT'S FOR THE SCHOOL PAPER.."
FIRST OF ALL, WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO ENROLL IN THIS SCHOOL?
— "oh, um," she shifted in her seat uncomfortably, trying to think of something believable to tell the boy. she couldn't tell woojin she'd chosen this school because the only other option she'd had was the school her brother goes to, and she was too scared to face him there. "i um wanted to go to a school with a good reputation and ongsung is one of the best schools, so..." her voice trailed off, and woojin nodded slowly, clearly not believing a word she'd said. "plus it's really close to my house, i can skateboard here!"
HAS YOUR TIME HERE BEEN GREAT SO FAR?
— "well aside from the tests, i guess," she shrugged. "i mean, nothing really bad has happened to me, so it's been good!" her signature beam returned to her face, and she watched as the boy wrote down her answer.
DO YOU HAVE ANY NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS?
— she blinked, trying to think of something that would count as an achievement. "i made the school dance team, i guess?" she finally answered, her tone still full of doubt. "i mean, it was probably just luck but hey, i made it, right?"
DO YOU LIKE THE PEOPLE HERE?
— she nodded without hesitation. "definitely. the people here are so much nicer than they were back in australia." woojin raised an eyebrow, looking like he wanted to ask her why she'd said that, but ultimately deciding not to.
IS THERE ANYTHING OR ANYONE YOU DESPISE IN THIS SCHOOL?
— she shook her head, smiling. "nope. at least, not yet. and i hope it'll stay like that. besides, it'll take an awful lot of effort to try to get me to hate someone."
WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY DURING YOUR TIME IN THIS SCHOOL SO FAR?
— "my best memory?" she leaned back in her seat, twirling her locket around her finger as she thought. "i guess making the team was it," she smiled proudly. "i'd always wanted to represent the school for something and now i have the chance to!"
IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY, WOULD YOU WANT TO TRANSFER SCHOOLS?
— "of course not! i mean, again, nothing bad enough to make me want to leave has happened yet, so i would like to stay here."
UM, I RAN OUT OF QUESTIONS. BYE.
— "wait, oppa!" she called out, standing up as woojin turned to leave. "i need to ask you something." woojin should've noticed the playful grin on the girl's face and ran while he could've. "are you and haru unnie actually dating yet?" she asked  in the most innocent voice she could muster, laughing to herself as he turned red and sprinted in the opposite direction.
KIM SAMUEL!
CLASS x-2
CLUB dance

PERSONALITY
— he comes off as really charismatic and cool when you first meet him, but once you get closer to him, samuel is honestly the biggest sweetheart ever. he can be really really cute at times as he is one of the younger students in the school, but behind that cuteness is someone more mature than he lets on. he's kind, responsible and patient with pretty much everyone, and he knows what it's like to be excluded for his differences, so he tries to do his best to make everyone feel like they belong. he's very friendly, and it's not hard to warm up to someone like him. if you're on the dance team, you'll realize that he's also incredibly devoted to his passions, and he'll work harder than everyone else if it means he'll reach his goal.

FIRST IMPRESSION
— honestly, samuel stood out to yejin. she didn't know whether it was because of his looks or his easy-going personlity but he grabbed her attention the second she saw him. and she knew immediately that they were going to get along well.
LOVE STORY

i.       she had her first interaction with the boy that sat in the seat behind her during math class, the last class of the day. maths wasn't samuel strongest subject, and yejin knew because of the fluent string of english curses and 'oh my god's that escaped his mouth every single time he got stuck on a question or didn't understand how something worked. she passed him a note kindly informing him that their class president, who sat two seats away from her, also spoke english so if he didn't want to get into trouble he should swear more quietly. he passed the note back saying that if she didn't want to get in trouble she needed to be less obvious in passing notes. they only realized by the time class ended that they hadn't gotten each other's names.

ii.      she finally learnt samuel's name in her first dance club meet. she hadn't noticed they were in the same club until the club leader had stopped to introduce her to everyone since she missed the first practice. the next day the club didn't have to meet up, but it turned out that samuel and yejin both had the same idea when they both turned up to practice the choreography they'd learnt the day before.

they ended up meeting each other most times they didn't have practice, and they'd kind of gotten used to each other being there when they practiced. 'practice buddies', she called it.

iii.    they started talking and trying to get to know each other better during the practices where it was only the two of them, and they went from practice buddies to friends, then from friends to close friends. they both made it into the dance team, and they started spending more time in the studio perfecting routines or just talking during their short breaks.

iv.    when yejin's friends all started getting crushes, she decided to bring someone along with her so she wouldn't have to third, fifth or even seventh wheel alone (her friends claimed they weren't officially going out with their crushes but she still felt like they were. honestly they should just get together already. spare her the wait), so she dragged samuel along. he was honestly confused when she dragged him to the cafe where haru and hanui worked for the first time, and when he asked for an explanation she'd just replied: "hanui unnie. seonho. haru unnie. woojin oppa," and he'd immediately understood.

her friends saw them coming together more often and had started to ask whether she liked samuel, and she would say that she only saw him as a friend. that was the truth. as least, she'd thought it was, but the amount of times her eyes started to unconsciously drift over to look at the boy said otherwise. she didn't notice samuel doing the same when she wasn't looking, but her friends did.

v.     the dance club leader, noh taehyun, seemed to have his mind set on pushing the two together, and she finally found out how annoyed her friends must feel when she does the same to them. it's so obvious how whenever she had a move she wasn't sure about, he'd start talking to minah so she couldn't help yejin and he'd ask samuel to teach her instead. they couldn't argue with the leader, but they'd both shake their heads disapprovingly whenever it happened.

yejin realized after the fourth or fifth time she'd found herself staring at samuel's reflection in the mirror that she may or may not be starting to like him. she didn't want to admit she liked him, because he would be disgusted to know she had a crush on him, that would change everything between the two of them, and she was sure she was the only one feeling this way. she wasn't.

vi.    one day she'd been kicked out of her house and all her friends had had some family event she didn't want to intrude on, so she thought it would be okay to just find a park bench to sleep on for the night. at least, she'd thought it would be okay until it started raining and she'd realized she either had to screw her pride and ask to borrow someone's living room for the night, or she could get hypothermia. she decided her pride was the least of her concerns at the moment so she went to ring the doorbell of every singly house in the neighbourhood.

she had been rejected by at least ten people before a woman decided to take pity on her and invite her in after seeing her drenched and shivering on her doorstep.  she saw a figure come up behind the woman, but she had been too relieved to recognize who it was until their eyes met. and then she realized holy crap she was standing outside kim samuel's house. samuel broke eye contact first, because she was drenched and she probably was freezing and his caring instincts (as least he told himself he was panicking just because he cared about his friend) told him he needed to get her inside as soon as possible. he could ask why she was there later on.

yejin had a long time to think about what she was supposed to tell them as she was getting dried and in the end she settled on saying "my parents aren't going to be home until tomorrow and i forgot my keys so i'm kind of locked out." she'd seemed to have forgotten her best friend was  pretty smart, and though samuel's parents believed her almost instantly, he wasn't convinced. he pulled her to one side as she was setting up in the living room and confronted her, telling her that he knew he was lying and he needed to know the truth. he told her that as a friend, he cared about her, and for the first time since they'd met, she felt her heart dip when the word 'friend' left his mouth. little did she know, samuel had been trying to convince himself that the worry he'd felt when he'd seen her wasn't because he liked her in that way, right?

she told him she'd tell him when she was ready and he told her he'd wait for her to be ready.

vii.    she told him everything in the dance studio after arguing with her brother that morning. she'd felt so emotionally drained and her brother's words had gotten to her so much that the minute they were alone she'd broken down crying. samuel honestly didn't know what to do, so he kind of just awkwardly hugged her and tried to calm her down as she cried.

they didn't practice at all that day and just awkwardly hugging each other until she'd stopped crying. then they realized they were hugging and jumped apart, both embarrassed because what if the other got the wrong idea? (can i make this a scene request?)

TRIVIA

— they would pass notes literally all the time in every single class and surprisingly, they either never got caught or nobody said anything about it if they caught them

— she saved samuel's number under the name 'note boy' and he saved her as 'note girl' (the names they called each other before they were properly introduced)

— whenever the teacher tells them to pair up for projects in class he would immediately tap her on the shoulder and she would nod, not even having to look back to know they were already going to be partners

— yejin would always be the first to see samuel's new choreographies and sometimes they try to choreograph together

— taehyun is their biggest shipper. he thought he was being subtle when pairing the two up for a dance performance but yejin and samuel agreed that he was being too obvious

— yejin almost confessed to samuel that she liked him the day she told him everything but managed to hold herself back because she was scared of getting rejected or their relationship changing

— they had been okay with skinship before, but after they finally admitted to themselves that they liked their best friend, all skinship just seemed awkward for both of them ("it's awkward because he hates it," she said, to which dami rolled her eyes and replied, "it's awkward because he likes you too.")

— samuel likes reminding her that he is in fact four flipping months older than her ("four months isn't that much." "yes, yes it is.")

(more tba)

ENDING i'll leave it up to you whether they end up telling each other or not~
STATUS opposite gender best friends (who are also both really convinced their crush is one-sided so they should just try to ignore their feelings)
STATEMENT "is it okay to like your own best friend?" — both of them to be honest
COMMENTS i'm sorry if her backstory is way too sad but please make her school life really nice to make up for it!!
SCENE SUGGESTIONS
— yejin and her way too obvious matchmaking (she doesn't realize she's almost as obvious as noh taehyun)
— a huge game of truth or dare between the first year students (a great chance for yejin to play matchmaker by the way)
