Personality

(+) Doyoung is never scared to show people his true colours, and that’s probably the charm that enables his to be easily likeable. He is always happy and full of energy, something that can be seen easily even on stage as he uses that speciality of his to portray the songs through his emotions. He’s very approachable that people tend to get close to him in a short time. He can turn an awkward situation lively even by his presence alone. He is always the first one to approach new faces, making him appointed as an outcast saver among the trainees in FNC and also in the show. Other than that, he is very optimistic and is always confident in what he does. He tends to expect the best in all possible ways, even if it seems almost impossible. Negativity is almost out of his dictionary. Doyoung is well-known for his hard work, especially being one of the longest-trained male trainees in FNC. He is determined towards his goal; that is to make good music and to let people listen to it through a debut. Every day, he would stay up till 3 to 4 in the morning to improve on his skills after he’s back from cram school at 11pm. He often gets sick due to that as well and his nose would bleed sometimes due to lack of sleep.

 

(-) Despite reaching almost 20 in Korean age, Doyoung is a very 4D person. He finds everything amusing, even if it’s just a large plushie of Donald Duck. The thoughts he have fascinates people at time, as they’re not what people had expected from him. Honestly who would knock on a CEO’s door just to ask why is their company’s colour tangerine orange? He is also quirky; he likes to pull pranks on others. He even formed a prank duo with Kwak Dongyeon to prank on everyone, especially on the CEO. They are always caught into trouble and would end up getting punished; but I guess that’s the only way to find joy in the midst of a hard training, no? Jaejin from FT Island would always , “This is why you’d never debut, Park Doyoung”, but he’d laugh it off anyway. Doyoung, however, is rather sensitive. Though he takes things positively, he’d always take things to heart. He’s easily scarred just by a single hatred comment from a hater or a blunt statement from his trainer. Sure, he’d try to hide his sadness but for all we know his eyes get teary and turned crystal. This boy has lots of tears and is a crybaby protect him pls. Doyoung is also clumsy somehow. He’d trip over things that lies obviously in front of his eyes, knock over a closed glass door, hit his head on a table while sneezing, and the list goes on. He tends to mix his words up too when he gets too panicked.

 

 

 

 

Background 

Doyoung comes from a decent family originated from the city of Jeonju. His family consists of at least a father, a mother, and an older twin sister. Being the only child with his twin, they are really close to each other. Both of his parents came from an entertainment background, so Doyoung and his twin, Haeyoung, have been in the entertainment scene since they were kids. Talent competitions are almost like their playground, and the vocal academy their parents own is their second home. In 2009 when Doyoung was 11, he heard a song from TAKE called ‘Butterfly Grave’. Ever since then, he started to love singing, in which later in middle school he joined the school’s band as a vocalist. Having to perform a lot in school and receive a lot of support from his schoolmates, he began to realise his dream – to be a singer.

 

He decided to go for FNC Entertainment right away as they were known for debuting a band called FT Island at that time, though later was rejected as he was said to be very young and not compatible for the respective agency. However, he did not give up on his dream and as he waited for the next audition opportunity, he got himself involved in writing short verses of songs that later turned into a number of completed songs. He might be young, but the passion he had made him move forward. From then onwards, he started to show interest in playing the guitar as well. On the following year, FNC held yet another audition and Doyoung went for it again. He eventually got in for his vocal and guitar skills where for his audition he had sung his all-time favourite, ‘Butterfly Grave’.

Bow down to the next generation of the Jo twins – except that these Park twins aren’t of the same gender. Doyoung is very much loved by Haeyoung and they are very close to each other. Doyoung tends to tell everything to Haeyoung, and the same goes to Haeyoung as well; since they only had each other. Being older by 2 minutes, Haeyoung is overprotective around Doyoung and is always worrying about him. They joke around each other a lot. She is always there for Doyoung to turn to when he couldn’t decide on things. Doyoung is very clingy and attached to Haeyoung. Although their companies aren’t near to each other but their dorms are, so sometimes they’d meet up when Haeyoung’s schedule is free. Haeyoung saves Doyoung's contact name as 'Maknae' while Doyoung saves hers as 'Strong Woman Park Haeyoung', a parody to the drama Strong Woman Do Bongsoon.

They said if someone’s personality is almost similar as yours, he/she is your other half. The thing is, Dongyeon and Doyoung are very similar to each other; from personality, to likes and dislikes, and even to talent. They share the same height, so whenever they’re together, others often can’t differentiate them from the back. The only things that differentiate them would most probably only be their age and looks. Having to begin their training period at the same time, they’ve been together since forever. They take care of each other as if they’re brothers. They’re both known among FNC artists to be part of the prank duo. Although Dongyeon had made his debut as an actor, they still keep in touch with each other.

Although Geun and Doyoung have an of 2 years, that doesn’t mean they can’t be close friends. With Geun being the playful person he is, these two quickly click as soon as they met on the show. They are one of those friendships that are shown on-screen by Mnet, and these two have gained shippers of their own. Opposite from the messy Geun, Doyoung is more to a neat person. Sometimes, Doyoung would clean up over Geun’s mess. If Doyoung had Dongyeon as his prank partner in FNC, he found one in Produce101 too – Geun, that is. Had any other trainees wake up each morning to their face being doodled with marker pens, it’d be because of these two. Fans of the show name them as the troublemakers of this season.

Trainee years 7 years 1 month

Trainee life 

Doyoung never knew that the life of a trainee could be very hard when he first went for the audition. The competition to get into the company itself is already intense, let alone among the trainees. FNC has surprisingly a lot of male trainees, and regardless of age, everyone there are rivals with each other; but of course, in a good way. Being in FNC for 7 years, Doyoung had seen a lot of trainees come and go; some made their debut in CNBlue, AOA, SF9 and HONEYST, some made their debut as actors, while some had left, leaving only a small amount of trainees in FNC’s dungeon – in which some are known by the public: Yoo Hoesung, a participant in Season 2, and Alex Bell, who used to be in the line-up of FNC’s predebut team project called NEOZ. There were times he felt like giving up. He thought his skills were deteriorating and were not good enough for him to be able to debut. He had also thought of dropping this dream of his and just become a normal university student.

 

It bothered him even more when Haeyoung went for the show in Season 1 and gained recognition – which enabled her to debut with A.De. His little mind would often question himself over his capability to debut. Doyoung would always be in the Top 3 for every monthly evaluation, he’d work hard even if his body was aching terribly. He needed his debut to happen. Doyoung literally grew up in FNC. The artists and the trainees are his big family. Even if training was hard, he wouldn’t want to leave any sooner. “Even if I have to wait till the very end, I won’t give up,” he said that is his life motto. 7 years is a long period, and he knew he couldn’t quit given that he had already consider FNC as his home and destiny. In mid-2017 when Season 2 is over, Mnet announced that they’d be making a Season 3 right away – and FNC is sending him over. This is his chance, he thought.

What was your reason for joining produce 101? I've been training for 7 years now. At this rate, I can really turn into fossil, haha. I really want to become an idol, I need my debut to happen no matter what it takes.

What was your main focus when training? vocal? dance? rap? When I first became a trainee, I was told that my dancing lacked some power. So I used to focus a lot on brushing up my dancing skills. Now, I'm focusing on balancing both vocal and dance.

What class are you expecting to enter in the first episode? At least... B? It'd be a shame to train for a very long time but still get a rank lower than B, though. A would be nice too, it'd feel like I've hit a jackpot.

What do you think your final rank will be? I don't want to aim as high as to be in the Top 5 since I don't want to be disappointed much, but I still want to have a good placing in the final 11. Hence, with my skills and experience, I'm positive I can get 6th - the middle rank.

Do you think you'll be able to make it to the final group? if so, why? I have confidence in myself! I don't want to put a shame on my own agency and also myself, so I really have to make it to the final cut.

What do you think sets you apart from the other trainees on the show? Experience? I think I'd be better skill-wise.

What song do you plan to perform for your first evaluation in front of the judges? Eddy Kim's 'The Manual'.

Are there any final things you would like to say? National producers! Nae maeum soge, jeojang~ secondhand embarrassment coming through
