TIPS: a and other writing jobs for kpop fans
after my last blog about writing a for $$, i got some questions. and i thought that a good way to procrastinate from studying for exams would be to introduce you all to the great world of: freelance writing.
the freelance website that i use is upwork. there are tons more of course, and you can google search for others.
most of my jobs are ghostwriting. this either means web articles where you don't see the author's name, or that you sell the copyright to your client. then they publish your writing under their name and you have nothing to do with it anymore. this might not be the best if you get salty over that (tbh, i still do sometimes). but you get to write, get money and don't have to worry about promoting/publishing your book.
okay now, here is all you can do with your kpop/fanfic writing skills:
boring stuff first: typical ghostwriting for websites
i work for agencies, so i don't really know what websites i'm actually writing for. (if you have questions about writing for websites/SEO, let me know~)
here are some great articles i've written before:
- should you apply for credit with bad credit?
- marrying your fiance (and debt)
- why your next car should be a pre-owned car
- how to freshen and rid urine smells
- how to use coffee scrubs for flawless skin
these are all things that i have no prior knowledge/interest in, but i've gotten familiar with scholar.google and plagiarism checkers.
and in the beginning, it took me the entire morning to write 500 words. now, i can write 7K+ on "science-backed guide to choosing the best cleaning products"
sketchy stuff: product reviews
basically they send me free stuff and i get paid to give a 4 or 5 star review on amazon. which isn't that bad
there was another job where i had to review showerheads. except i've never seen or heard of the products before ......
kpop related stuff:
amazingly enough, there are freelance kpop jobs out there. i've actually seen someone looking for a lyricist to write korean lyrics ... because he wanted to become a kpop artist...
- kpop mvs
my first kpop job was writing descriptions about kpop and cpop mvs for a website. it was kind of fun, especially when i got to write about my biases. but i got yelled at for including too many fandom jokes so yeah ...
this was also ghostwriting
examples: bermuda triangle / skydive
- kpop fanpage
i admined for 2 facebook pages: exo and bts
i got paid $1/10 posts and had to pretend i was from the philippines, but it was pretty cool~ they also created an app later and i had to pretend i was a regular user and comment/like everyone's posts.
- KPOP 101 ebook
they were looking for "experts" on certain topics. when i applied, i'd listed a bunch of topics i could write about and they chose kpop. so i wrote 10k on the basics of kpop, from fandom lingo to the generations to intros of popular groups
it was one of the few jobs that i wanted to go on and on about. and it was also ghostwriting
(i asked the client if he could send me a link to buy the book, but he didn't reply. idk if he ever published the book, but i got paid and i guess that's all that matters)
actual writing
.....i haven't really done any actual writing. most of it was the "boring stuff"
- a
yeah, i've already talked about this. i've applied to some a jobs before, but never got accepted. then after writing my sekailu , i decided to try again. the pay is very very crappy, but i guess it's a learning experience. and i'm still amazed that the client liked it enough to ask me to write another one
this is a new website where you can write the beginning of a story (a kick-off). then others can add onto your stories (follow-ups). i guess they were looking for ppl to make the website seem active, so i wrote 5 kick-offs (some are previously unpublished fanfic WIPs) and 5 follow-ups.
i like this because i'm actually the author and have rights to my work~
there have also been translating jobs, but these are all things you can do too.
if you have any other questions, let me know~~
