20 Writing Questions | My Writing Process | + Bonus (Exo)

1. What does your writing process look like?

Um... lots of notes (like, a lot of notes... one chapter ended up being pages... and things usually change when I actually start writing... so... fun.  ;)

2. Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)?

Does talking to yourself count?  Although, it's not me talking to myself.  It's my characters playing scenes outloud... using my mouth to do it... and making me look like a crazy person.  Also, I like my coffee when I write.  And...  I always have headphones in, even when I'm not listening to music (this is only when I'm writing, though).  I don't actually walk around with unhooked up headphones.

3. What book do you wish you could have written?

Um...  I don't wish I'd written anything I've read.  If I had it wouldn't be that book anymore.  It'd be something exactly to my preference, and because it would have been written by me, I wouldn't really have enjoyed it.  Once I write a chapter, seeing it so many times burns me out on it.  So, I'm relieved when I finally post it and get to move on to something new.

4. Just as your books inspire authors, what authors have inspired you to write?

Every author, rather I enjoyed their work or not, inspires me:  To keep doing what I love.  Writing.  Creating characters and different worlds.  Seeing a book, rather it's a paper copy or an ebook makes me giddy, and ignites my passion further.  The only thing I ever think about is writing - or reading when I need brain food.  ;)

5. If you could cast your characters in the Hollywood adaptation of your book, who would play your characters?

Haha.  Um, can I bring my characters to life, with the knowledge to replay everything in their life - via my book - and let that be recorded?  I don't know.  I think it'd be an experience to meet actors/actresses, and see what talent they have.

6. How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning? Do you have any name choosing resources you recommend?

Names are important.  You can't have names that rhym (is this how you spell rhym?  It doesn't look right... hm...), you can't have characters with the same first letter - it's confusing, so, even though you/I love names, there's rules to picking them, for convenience sake.  Sticking to those rules, I like names for the sound, and the meaning.  Depends on the story, and/or the character.

(Resources:  I don't understand the question.)  Maybe, if this is what's meant by it, I sometimes, watch movies and at the beginning and end credits I write down cool names.  Sometimes, I look up a list of names based on character nationality, race, , etc...  That's pretty much it.  I loooove names.

I've had entire notebooks full of names.  I'll stop writing just to write down new names.

7. What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

I am working on a story, and with in the next few chapters, I will have finished it (the only chapter story I've ever finished), so that makes me extremely happy, and I'm already basking in the acomplishment.

8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself with multiple published books/novellas, etc., and living off of my income as a self published author.  ;)

9. Were you already a great writer? Have you always like to write?

No one is born a great writer.  They may be born with the passion to write, or may develop it over time (like me).  Although, as a child I used to draw characters and comics (full out) - as a child, which was impressive - now that think about it.  No kid, unless they're destined to be a writer can draw like that, with detail about the Worlds, the Characters, the Plot.  So, drawing became writing, because drawing was a limiting medium for my creations.

I didn't start out liking writing, I didn't consider it, it just happened.  I loved books though, with a passion, and still do.  So, all that combined, and you have me.  Writer - Demitria_Teague (Happy).  ;)

10. What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?

One:  Stop calling yourself an aspiring author.  Call yourself a writer.  If you like to write, if you do write, you're not aspiring to anything.  You are a writer.  Own that title, and you'll naturally start living as a writer.  You'll be more dedicated to your Craft.

You'll set goals to accomplish as a writer.  If you want to publish, rather it's the traditional way or self publishing, you'll research, you'll read for brain food (reading is required to better learn to write.  Don't stop reading just because you write - just don't do it).  When you go to publish, don't skip the editing, Beta, and professional critique phases.  And, get a professional Cover made.

Quality sells.  Don't skimp on this.

11. If you didn't like writing books, what would you do for a living?

...Well, I do like writing, so, I can't possibly come up with anything else I'd rather be doing.  The thought is horrifying.  (Don't say such things.)

12. Are you a plotter or a pantster?

I think both are important.  Rather you Plot or not, sometimes you just have to write things freely to learn about the World, the Plot, and the Characters.  A lot of times this helps me develop everything before the Plot can even be created.

13. Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?

Yes, I read them.  I always respond positively, even when people are rude.  Or, if it's straight up a Troll, I ignore them, and delete the Comment.  I'll never delete my work or Profile because someone has a negative outlook on life, is an online bully, or a plain up .  :D  'Scuse my French.

My writing is my life, and nothings going to take that away.  Plus, my reader enjoy my work, and it'd be just wrong to take the stories away from them.  I love you guys.

14. What is your best marketing tip?

Create a Blog, and talk to people:  Not just to Market, but to get to know them.  Other writers, avid readers, normal people, artists, whatever.  If someone likes you, it'll be easier to stir them towards your work.  You'll have strong connections that'll stand the test of time.

15. What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?

Publishing:  Formatting - ugh. |  Writing Process:  Formatting.  Haha.

16. Is there one subject you would never write about as an author? What is it?

Memoir?  Does that count as a Subject?  Um...  Nope, that's all I got.  I love Comedy, Romance, Fiction, SciFi, Horror, Action, Thriller - I'm an avid reader, guys.  I looove everything, which makes it easier for me to write.

I'm always an avid movie watcher, so studying characters and Plots is something I've done before I ever realized it's what I was doing.

17. Do you have a favorite conference to attend? What is it?

No, but I would love to find one.  I think Writers Digest would be awesome to check out.  Their Resource material is off the charts awesome.

18. Is there a certain type of scene that's harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?

I... think that as long as you write your characters like real people, with real emotions, physical sensations, remember the world around them, and their reaction to it all - realism, like you and me, then it all goes smoothly.  And I want to add one thing (forgive me) - but when it comes to kissing/and intimate scenes...  No one battles their tongues for dominance, and they don't smash their faces together (there's not all clashing teeth...  just ow)... sorry, not sorry.

19. Is this your first book? How many books have you written prior (if any?)

I consider all of my stories books, even though they're called fanfics.  I would never professional publish them, because Copy Right... or maybe Plagarism.  But, if I turned them Original, it's a different story (see what I did there - Story?... wait, what...?  Never mind.

*hangs head.

Um, anywho... I have way to many stories, which means to many books to count.  :)  So, that many.

20. What are you working on now? What is your next project?

I am working on Fanfics, woo!... Sorry, um...  (Xiumin/Chen/FOC-Kitten) The Ethical or Poly - Amour (I regret the title, because it's a Polyamorous relationship, not a nasty ty whatever), and the first part of the story is Sensualist Cafe', which I plan on expanding.

There's the ChanBaek vampire/donor story (there's original version, and five chapters, so far, of the expansion, which people are loving ;) - ChanBaek in Tokyo

The last one I'm going to mention is my SHINee Zombie Apocalyps Fic - Continuum, which people are enjoying - there's a lot more readers on AO3 than AFF, but it's all the same.

(Master List) - And I have a few Ideas in the mix.

BonusLast year I posted a Blog with a collection of new things with EXO - videos, interviews, etc.  - This year, I did the same thing.  And you can check it out Here.
