Princess Tiana ♔ Kim Gongjoo ♔ Gongjoo

 gongjoo

Birthname. Kim Gongjoo
Nicknames.

The Weird One - because of her personality and often spacing out, others think something's not all that right with her.
The Robot - Did you see Gongjoo eat or sleep? Me neither... what if she's a crazy robot from outa space trying to exterminate humankind?! SHIIIIT!!!

Date of Birth. August 24, 1994
Birthplace. Seoul
Ethnicity. Korean
Language(s) Spoken.

– Korean :: fluent, since she's Korean
– English :: she gets the pronounciation pretty well, but her language skills are rather average

Faceclaim. OMG Yooa
Backup. Sonamoo Eujin

Appearance. Gongjoo is pretty tall for a Korean girl as she's sporting 172cm in height. She's of the slimmer kind as she's not spending a lot of time eating and also takes care of her body. She's rather pale as she spends most of the time inside, training and also doesn't use a lot of make-up if she doesn't need to. She's probably one of the most natural ones off-screen when it comes to the usage of make-up (but hey that doesn't mean BigHit didn't let a certain doctor help out to perfectionate her looks...if you know what I mean).

Style. If she's not told to dress in pretty dresses, you will most of the time see her in comfy black clothes. Joggers, tracksuits or tank tops in combination with a nice set of Adidas shorts and she's good to go. Her combats and Timberlands also are her trademark. You want to see her when she's out of the trainings room? Then you'll find her in her shorts, an oversized T, either the combats or Timberlands and maybe a hoodie that is just as oversized as the T-Shirt.

Personality.

I know exactly where I'm going. Gongjoo knows that from nothing comes nothing. Why praying and wishing to become what you want to be when you should spend the time you waste on hoping and sitting in a corner longing for something, you could use on working to fulfil your dreams? Gongjoo's not waiting for a Fairy Godmother and instead works on getting what she wants - and she's not letting anyone stop her. Her diligence and persistence mixed with her stubborness often result with her training all alone in the midst of the night when the others don't want to tag along. She's the one who learns choreographies of other famous dancers in her free time while others go out and eat or spend their time with sleeping, she doesn't care about dark circles or feeling tired out as long as she feels like making progress. Gongjoo's got great aspirations. Ain't nobody hold her down. You think she's crazy? She doesn't even care. This girl educates herself while ignoring outside distractions.

I'm not glamorous, but that's okay. Because she's real. Gongjoo's rarely trying to get into the spotlight by being very quirky in front of cameras or similar. She's so much into the things she loves that she forgets about what else the world has to offer. Stuff like social interactions. If you're into the same things as her, she's opening up very quickly and can be an excitable, cheerful person but whenever she finds herself in new situations that she doesn't know and that have nothing to do with what she wants to do or achieve, she'll be at a loss - especially of words. She's almost so awkward that it hurts to watch her (even though some claim it's cute). Also, she's very absent-minded at times as she's thinking about that cool choreo that she just found yesterday while the other's are being interviewed about some random things that don't interest her much. There are people who mistake her as a 4D person as she sometimes blurts out random thoughts or gives weird answers when dragged into conversations that she didn't follow prior. Some even claim that she's a little dense or naive when in reality she's none of those. Gongjoo doesn't suffer fools and she'll never say something about it because she accepts other's flaws but she'll try to avoid them as good as possible because Gongjoo might be a tolerant person, but she's not a saint and she doesn't want to get angry at others. She prefers peace... but if you're on her "I don't like you that much" list and ask for her opinion, she'll tell you honestly what she thinks about you. She won't get loud, she won't pick a fight and also she won't react to any attempt of you getting her into a fight. She'll just walk away when things get heated. If you can't take her honesty, don't ask for it.

Background.

Trials and Tribulations - I had my share. Coming from a very poor family, Gongjoo knows what it's like to have nothing and not to be able to do what you wish to do. Everything she achieved she did on her own and even though her family can't really support her, they try to cheer for her whenever possible. The interest to become a dancer occured pretty early for Gongjoo when SHINee debuted and the girl fell head over heels for Taemin and his dancing. With the newly ignited love for dance, Gongjoo wanted to take dance classes but since her family couldn't afford such luxury for her, she had to find another way to learn how to dance. So she started to research and found various dancers and styles she wanted to copy in the www, ending up basically training herself every single day alone until she joined her Middle - and later High School's dancing clubs. Gongjoo never felt satisfied with what she achieved so far though, so what she did was auditioning for some entertainments, ending up being signed under BigHit where she got to know Jungkook and Hoseok, prior to their BTS debut, with who she grew kind of close since for the first time she got to talk to someone about her love for international dancers and they did the same as her - covering choreographies by big name dancers on their own. Nevertheless, being a trainee doesn't automatically mean you'll debut. Especially not if your entertainment focuses on the group that brings in all the money. BigHit might be super successful thanks to BTS at the moment but instead of also focusing on their other trainees, the female ones in particular, they only care for how BTS is doing. Yet, Miracles seem to happen as BigHit joined the collab with all the other entertainments, allowing one of their trainees to join the fun. How it happened to be Gongjoo? She wants to believe that it's because of her ambitions and her skills... but she doesn't know and the entertainment never made a statement about it.

   Trivia

Likes.

Challenges & Competition - She works the best whenever she has a certain goal in mind. And someone to beat. Yeah, this girl is crazy to be on top.
Choreographers - her favorites are Kyle Hanagami, Melvin Timtim and Brian Puspos.
Workout & Stretching - To be a great dancer you need power, flexibility and body tension.
Pineapples & Apples - Make fun of her how much you want... Pineapples and Apples are her favorite foods.
Justin Timberlake & Conor Maynard - Her favorite singers and inspiration in terms of music.

Dislikes.

Coffee - Coffee causes her serious stomachache. You want to knock her out? Easy if you know this.
People who cry openly - She just can't human. Don't let her meet anyone crying... she'll be awkward as frack.
Catfights - The others are fighting again? Great. Gonna be back in two hours!
Huge Cleavages, s or pants that don't cover for male crotches - No, seriously. This is getting her super irritated. She'll be banned staring at it as if it's a car crash happening in front of her eyes.
Clubbing - Gongjoo's a grown girl. So of course she already went to clubs... but she didn't like it a lot. Did you see those people dancing in Korean clubs? Weird. Gongjoo wants to dance... not imitate rampant chicken.

Habits and Hobbies.

Dancing - Apparently. She'll spend most of her time watching new choreographies on YouTube and learn them.
Singing - Her lover No 2. But it's nothing close to dancing. Because dancing means the world to her.
She walks in circles when she thinks intensively about things.
Cover Dances - She's the Queen of cover dances. No matter which one. Her love for dance and choreography doesn't stop at others' choreographies. And she'll totally dance along whenever she's backstage and it's other group's turn to perform.

Trivia.

She has extensive knowledge about healthy and effective nutrition. Strict diets from the company? She'll find an even better diet that helps her loose weight but not loose energy so she'll faint in the end (and yeah no matter how disgusting or tough it gets, she'll totally do it. Ain't nobody judge her for that. WILLPOWER! HUH!)
Gongjoo's name actually means princess... the reason she loves the group name a lot.
She's a skipjack. No matter how often she'll fall, she'll come back. Like a zombie. She's a zombie warrior (okay, just kidding).
She's never been abroad but would love to go to the States to learn at the Millenium Dance Studio or the Kinjaz Dojo.
She doesn't understand puns. Well... sometimes she does... 5 minutes after it's over and then laughs very late and very alone. But hey! At least she got it then!
Gongjoo gets along better with guys than girls. Girls are irritating her. She likes to have it easy and peaceful... girls never are easy to get along with... but that mindset probably comes from her growing up with three older brothers.
Her ideal type is someone who is good at dancing (obviously). She'd like to be in a happy marriage later with a dancer so she can be just like Keone and Mariel Madrid. Doesn't help seeing them all the time whenever Keone is at BigHit for another choreography for BTS. They made her dream of that perfect couple life ever since. Yes, they are goals!

   Interview

How do you feel about being chosen to represent your label on Princess?

Gongjoo blinks at the interviewer and then slowly looks over to where the camera is positioned, giving it a very short smile.
"I'm thankful I get to represent BigHit and hopfully I will do a good job on it."
Her little smile rests on her lips as the interviewer remains silent, waiting for her to add something. But she just blinks at him, so the next question follows.

Do you think you can win against the other girls?
With this question the interviewer finally caught Gongjoo on her more talkative side and she takes a second to think about her answer, before she gives a detailed insight in what she thinks. "It really depends. What do Koreans currently like to see more? What do they enjoy more? A great dance performance? A touching vocal performance? Or a powerful rap performance? Do they want something cheerful that makes them forget about life troubles and indulge in the short moment of happiness or do they want to follow a performance that tells them something about life, about feelings, about issues that we all meet on a daily basis? I'm pretty sure I can vary and show a lot of emotions but also allow the audience to feel free and happy, watching me dance or listening to me sing. I want to make the audience understand the music, the movements, the dance itself and the emotions that are in it." She suddenly looks very thoughtful, a certain excitement can be seen shimmering in her eyes.

What do you think your charm point is?
"...sorry, what?"As she's caught drifting down deep her thoughts, she gets dragged back to the interview but can't follow as she totally did not listen to the interviewer and makes an apologetic face, grinning widely while biting her lower lip as her eyes form crescents.

Any weaknesses you're worried about?
"I don't rap. So I can't serve that area. I tried to rap once. But the aggressivenes coming from it is nothing I can work with. Aggressions and anger are emotions that are hard to display, especially for me. I prefer peace, happiness, even sadness. Hatred and anger are ugly emotions." A short nod underlines her words as if she's confirming her thoughts for her own.

Do you have any final words for the viewers?
"Thank you for having me here, please support me - but also everyone else! All of us deserve the chance to win, we've all been training for a long time. Oh! And enjoy the show, of course!"

Trainee Years. since 2010 (around 6 years)
Trainee Life.

BigHit got super popular after the rise of Bangtan. And what is Bangtan known for? Yeah, aside those heavy rap lines... right, their dancing skills. No wonder Gongjoo spent most of her time practicing dancing at the company. You'd think she hit the jackpot but no, not with a company that after the scandal around GLAM occured didn't pay a lot attention to female trainees anymore. I know, right? What's that with the ism?! But it's just natural that a company with so much trouble on their hands focuses more on the only thing that keeps them alive. BTS. Good for them. Bad for all the trainees. To Gongjoo this meant a halt and yeah, after many years of training but never debuting, she started contemplating if she should leave the company or not. As a 94-liner she was pretty old already, though, and becoming an idol would be out of he reach once she dropped out... so she waited a little longer and what happened was the opportunity to join Princess. Miracles happen.
