BACKGROUND
iseul was born and raised in a village on ulleung-do. she is the second of three daughters, and developed an interest in the ocean from a young age. she also spent a lot of her time outdoors, swimming and fishing. after graduating from the one high school on the island, iseul moved to the mainland for college.

although it is split between men's and women's, the swim team is a tightly-knit community, and thus practice and hang out together. minseok, hyeonwoo, and siwon are the teammates she has become closest to over the years, but she honestly loves competing with all of them.
ahn minseok is sort of her ex-boyfriend. they went out a couple times when iseul was a freshman, but quickly decided it wasn't going to work out, and that they should just be friends. they lead well together, and though they do not have any romantic feelings for each other, lots of their teammates ship them together, much to a certain someone's dismay.
nam hyunwoo is annoying sometimes, and a little dumb, but iseul acknowledges that her life would be very different without him. she wouldn't have it any other way.
as stated before, go siwon is siyeon's younger sister. iseul actually met siwon first, and the two (much like iseul and her big), became friends immediately. siwon is the more cynical, grumpier version of iseul, and one of her best friends.

"none of your business" iseul mumbles.

"yeah, yeah, he'll be there too. can we move on?" iseul glares at the two, but there's a flush of red under her makeup that wasn't there before.

"when we were freshmen, there was a senior on the swim team, and she was part of kdg. you guys remember jung miran, right?" nayeon nods after a moment, and iseul does so herself. ahreum doesn't remember, if her face is any indication.
"anyway, i really looked up to her, and one day i asked her what the sororities were like. she said they were great, but hers was obviously the best." she sees nayeon snort, evidently recalling their crushing defeat at the hands of tri delta the previous year. "and then she said that i'd probably fit in nicely there, so i decided i'd try the whole sorority thing out."
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CURRENT EXECUTIVE BOARD? NO PRESSURE. YOU CAN BASH US WE'LL PRETEND WE DIDN'T LISTEN.
"i don't have any complaints. guess that means you guys are doing well." iseul shrugs. "then again, i'm not an expert on student government or leadership or anything like that."
nayeon, taken aback, blinks a couple of times, "you're captain of the swim team...?"
"yeah, co-captain." iseul begins, gesticulating. "minseok's the real leader anyway. he's actually good at teaching people when coach isn't available. i just hang around and look cool, get people to join because i have connections and can make conversation. minseok is the most awkward person alive when it comes to making small talk."

iseul looks off to the side, thinking. "the best part? a sense of belonging. i came here knowing nobody off of ulleung-do, and thanks to kdg, i made friends immediately. the parties are fun too, of course, to a certain extent. especially with the shy underclassmen at crush parties." she grins.
"and the worst part...?" she pauses, "probably all the social committments. i mean, between swimming and my job, i have a lot on my plate, so parties are kind of a drag sometimes. mixers especially."
ahreum tilts her head to the side, "... so are parties good or bad?"
"kind of a gray area, you could say. depends on what kind we're talkin' about."

iseul purses her lips, "i don't feel too strongly about it. we lost to them last year, but all that means is that we have to work harder this year, y'know?" she pauses to look up at the president and vp, "what are you two smiling about?"

iseul rolls her eyes, "so, are we done yet?"
"it's a secret." ahreum is still smiling, but there's something more evil about it.

HISTORY
they met just after midterms during the second semester of their freshman year. after his last final, jimin texted his good friend and roommate kim taehyung to get together and celebrate. taehyung replied that he was sitting on the bleachers at the pool and told jimin to meet up with him and his friends. and so off jimin went. he wondered what exactly taehyung was doing at the pool, but he had to get used to not questioning anything taehyung did. it was better that way. as he walked in and sat down next to his friend, the swim team was getting out of the pool. iseul stopped to say hi to taehyung and let him know she'd be out in about fifteen minutes. it was then that she noticed jimin and introduced herself. jimin shyly introduced himself back. iseul, confused by his demeanor, left for the locker room.
when she came back out, the three of them and several other friends went out for food and drinks. jimin tried to work up the courage to talk iseul—she wasn't really his type, but it wasn't like she unattractive either—but ultimately couldn't bring himself to do it. luckily, iseul was fascinated with him. taehyung talked about his roommate all the time, but she wanted to get to know him first-hand. so, they talked. and the more she looked at him and got him to open up, the more fascinated (or, in others' opinion, infatuated) she became. iseul stopped drinking the minute she started talking to him, insisting that she didn't want to make a fool of herself in front of a new acquaintance.
iseul and jimin started to hang out more after that night—with their mutual friend taehyung, of course, otherwise it would be awkward. although they found a number of differences between them, they were fast friends, and over time, became closer. they exchanged phone numbers, started texting. in terms of hanging out, though, it was always in a group of at least three.
but things changed around the time of iseul's first crush party. she and minseok had broken things off a while before, and not having a crush at the time, she decided to invite him, along with taehyung. before she let the exec board know about her choices, however, something told her to put jimin on the list too. minseok and taehyung would probably be snatched up in an instant by other kdg members, but she hadn't heard them mention jimin before. maybe they could talk and she wouldn't be alone...? she told herself that her intentions were wholly friendly, and then they started talking. jimin made a joke—"if i'm here it means one of the sisters likes me, right? i wonder who it is…"—and whether it was what he said or the way he said it or the gentle smile on his face, it made iseul's heart speed up. she barely choked out "i guess we'll see!" before excusing herself to find siyeon.
she gave siyeon a play-by-play of what had happened, and her big said exactly what she'd feared: "i think you like him." she urged iseul to keep talking to him, to see if maybe he liked her back. iseul protested, claiming she didn't want to ruin things between them. iseul was so anxious, in fact, that as much as siyeon tried to push her back to the main party space, iseul only wanted to go home. and so she did. jimin texted her to see of she was okay; she claimed she wasn't feeling well and decided to go home. they hung out with their friend group like usual, but she was awkward around him from then on. every time he asked if something was wrong, she denied it brusquely. one day, long after the events of the crush party, he asked if he'd done something to upset her. iseul didn't know how to respond, because he really didn't do anything wrong; this was all her. there wasn't much of a reason to keep it hidden from him anymore either (aside from the potential for rejection), so she told him how she felt, as her big had suggested.
"you like me?" his mouth hangs open.
"pretty sure that's what i said." she means to sound sarcastic, but it lacks her signature biting tone. it feels subdued.
"… huh." a silence hangs in the air.
"i think this is the part where you say how you feel." iseul says after a little while
"oh." another silence. the floor has suddenly become very interesting.
she raises an eyebrow "so?"
"ye-yeah, i like you." she's never seen his face so red before.
they decided to go to the beach the following weekend. it was a place they both liked, and there were plenty of things to do if they ever didn't know what to say or got sick of each other. but they never did. when they returned from their amazing first date, they came to the realization that they would have to deal with taehyung. they didn't want to alienate him, or make him into a third wheel. so, for the rest of the semester (so, a couple months) they only went out occasionally. the rest of the time they spent together was in a group, making no mention of their budding relationship. over the summer, they talked daily, whether over text, videochat, or phone call, and iseul even visited him while he was home in busan; she found it difficult to leave, and he didn't want to see her go either. they had to make things official when school started up again. it only seemed right.
sophomore year, they were happy together, and soon it was their two-hundred day anniversary. then they hit the eight-month mark. they had their occasional ups and downs, but it was never anything major. things were serious between them, and iseul didn't mind at all—until jimin started bringing parents into the picture; her's specifically. he wanted to visit her on ulleung over the summer so he could meet them. she discouraged it, saying there would be nothing to do so he would get bored. it would definitely be better for her to visit him. but he kept bringing her parents up anyway. she had already met his parents when she visited last summer, what was wrong with him meeting hers?
"i… haven't told them we're still dating." he wouldn't have heard her had he not been standing so close.
he blinks, puzzled. "why would that matter?"
"it's complicated." she replies, quieter than before.
"do you not get along with them?"
she shakes her head.
"you don't think they'll like me, then?"
a bitter laugh escapes her. "no, they'll love you. that's the problem."
his brow furrows. "how is that a problem?"
"they'll want us to get married."
he almost can't be sure he heard her right.
jimin was torn. iseul's concern was valid, they were young and still had a lot of life ahead of them. but it wouldn't be so bad necessarily; their relationship had been serious for a while. but iseul's happiness was most important to him, so he agreed to hold off on meeting them. since then, things have been going smoothly, although hearing iseul tell her parents that she "isn't really seeing anyone right now," still hurts him.
INTERACTIONS
iseul is gentler with jimin around; kdg members take advantage of this by asking her things that would usually piss her off. very earnest with him too. they dote on each other a ton. lots of cuddling and kisses. seem to permanently be in the honeymoon phase, but they actually just keep their conflicts between them. all in all just like... really comfortable with each other.

01 jimin goes to the sorority house to pick iseul up after a chapter meeting ('cause they're going on a date), but she's preoccupied with something so some of the other sisters iseul doesn't know super well see him first and start asking him a bunch of questions. jimin gets flustered. iseul finally saves the day shows up and says something like "stop harassing my boyfriend" and the sisters are like "did she just call him her boyfriend???" and iseul's like "damn guess the cat's outta the bag ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" and they're like "binch we already knew" so from then on she calls him her boyfriend freely in front of them, but makes them promise to not mention him if they ever see her parents.
