sieon knew little about his uncle before they met, just that he was his mother's brother, moved from jinju to attend university, and hadn't been back since. he didn't even know his uncle was married until he met the two of them at neo city station so he could move into their apartment.

 

jihye and seonghoon were much more well-off than what sieon was used to, and consequently they decided for him that he wouldn't pay rent. but sieon wouldn't have it, so they settled on their current arrangement—he still wouldn't pay rent, but he'd pitch in for groceries and help around the apartment, mostly by fixing things when they broke. in time, the three of them grew closer, and sieon has learned to rely on them a bit (mostly for life advice). he isn't a surrogate son to them or anything, but seonghoon and jihye gladly dote on sieon when he begrudgingly allows it.

 

most importantly, sieon's learned much more about them: his uncle is a financial analyst, his aunt is in the cosmetics industry. what suprised him most was to find out why seonghoon had been absent for so much of sieon's life—because he didn't want to have children, sieon's maternal grandparents thought he was a lost cause, and cut off contact. consequently, he only hears about them from his sister, sieon's mother.

they were chairmates in one of their gen ed classes freshman year. after exchanging pleasantries, they got to talking and found they had a bit in common—a love of sports. after class, yoonoh invited sieon to hang out with himself and a few of his high school friends, and sieon being sieon, accepted. soon, he was caught up in the group's antics.

 

sieon has never been one for playing team sports (he prefers weightlifting or swimming), but for a little while, sophomore year specifically, sieon joined the university's basketball team at yoonoh's suggestion. he doesn't play on the team anymore, but he'd never turn down an evening shooting hoops with yoonoh, given he isn't working.

 

sometimes they talk about dating prospects, usually on sieon's end (sieon tries to avoid putting "dating" and "yoonoh" in the same sentence, given whatever's going on between yoonoh and heeyoung at the moment). yoonoh points out someone he thinks sieon might like, then a few weeks later he might ask if he ever got around to messaging them. sieon's still working up the courage to tell yoonoh why he never has.

as two people who tend to go with the flow rather than make plans themselves, sieon and minseok don't hang out together, just the two of them, often. still, it isn't uncommon to see the them in the library, especially when midterms or finals are near. since sieon's major has to do with the structure of korean, as well as that he enjoys writing so much, sieon helps minseok with papers by giving him pointers and proofreading. for that reason, there are times their relationship is more like that of a tutor and their student than friends. 

 

otherwise, if they're together, it's because one of their mutual friends (usually yoonoh) is around as well. sometimes the three of them go clubbing together, other times they're at the basketball court talking about nothing in particular.

being close to jung chaeyeon, sieon inevitably came to know her best friend. mostly, this happened through walking to school together, with sieon getting on the subway, taking off near their apartment complex, and walking the rest of the way with them, or hanging out with the two of them (and sometimes yoonoh and minseok too) at the cafe. sieon can only think of one occasion when they've interacted, just the two of them, together, and that was only a brief talk after they ran into each other on campus.

 

they're nice to one another, of course. that's in their nature. sieon has nothing but nice things to say about her. but sometimes, when he's interacting with chaeyeon, he can't help but feel like heeyoung is evaluating him. does she know how he feels about chaeyeon? do they talk about him when he isn't there? what do they talk about?!?
