I find this... strange?

I'm not sure what to make of it when I see a writer leave a message in a story that says something to the affect of:  I do not own Exo (or any band) or SM Entertainment, etc...

I guess it would be ok if someone didn't know about any of these Fandoms or Fandoms at all.  But, this site is literally called Asian [Fan Fics] Dot Com.  As long as you have full knowledge of what a Fan Fic is it should be a given that you don't own anything but the plot of your story and any OC characters in it.  This is just something that's stuck out hard for me.

    What's your take on it?

Just to be safe on the legal side. I'm a law school student and I find this valid because some people look through every nook and crevice to find a reason to cause problems, believe it or not.

It's an odd way of doing a disclaimer so that they can't be sued by the people they are writing about or their agency. I think it's meant to be cute, but it does feel weird (>ヮ<)

Maybe they wrote on another site and had some backlash or something... Or, the story you saw could be their first fanfic...

Just a simple disclaimer. Some people might be stupid enough to think that the stories are real, just like some fanaccounts are taken for the real accounts. While obviously, it is not. So some people still just put their disclaimers in the forword just in case. Just like some very angsty or horror fics will warn that their story is fiction and not at all related to the idols in real life

I do it for fun, haha. It's kinda silly. I think the reason I started was to make sure that people didn't take my characters and related them to the real life idol. It would be rather unfortunate if someone who didn't know EXO that well took my non-au eating disorder story and believed what I wrote about the idols were true and that it actually happened or if someone read Psycho and for some stupid reason decided to believe that the way I portray Kai is related to the actual idol. But since then it just stuck and I do it at times and forget it with others, haha. ^-^
