» PERSONALITY

One of the most important thing about Gayoung is that she enjoys being challenged and always having to do better. She does well on contests and competitions and is always trying to be number one wether it is in her personal life or at school. She is ambitious and always had bigger dreams than being a typical office worker. However, she wasn't quite sure of where her place was. Her parents wanted her to do a "serious" job but she never let go of her dream. She is the kind of girl to never let go of anything, arguments, dreams and people, and sometimes, she annoys the people around her. It is known that Gayoung gets attached really easily and it's hard for her to say goodbye. Luckily, she hasn't had to deal with deaths in her family yet and never had to move to a new house. The fact that Gayound likes to be number 1 doesn't mean that she believes herself to be better or worth more than the others. At least that is not how she sees it. Her greatest adversary is her own self and she is always pushing her limits. Of course, when she succeed in something, Gayoung is humbly satisfied and happy, taking pride in her accomplishments but not in other people's failings. However, sometimes in the path to her goal, she get get narrow-minded and forget about the people around her that she can hurt. A headstrong person, she will push through and only realize after that she might have left some people behind or stole a victory they wanted and deserved. In these situations, she will do her best to be forgiven but understand that if she was them, maybe she wouldn't forgive her that easily.

Because she lived a sheltered life, Gayoung never had to worry about money issues and was always free to do whatever she wanted, as long as she remained a good girl and brought home good grades. Because of that, Gayoung loves to shop and eat and has this natural curiosity that make her want to discover as many things as she can. Gayoung can be awkward in public places and was never the most coordinated. Sometimes she'll trip, sometimes she'll say things that can cause secondhand embarassement for her groupmates... It's a bit of a surprise because Gayoung external appearance is always spot on. She's beautiful, tall, always looked older than her real age and has this intimidating look, but really, she will trip on her own limbs and shatter that beautiful image. It's like she has that on and off switch. When she is "on", she's fearless and she can do anything and succeed. She becomes this Amazon-like figure of talent, poise and raw determination. But when her switch is "off", she's just the awkward but bright girl who can't even walk in high heels without tripping everywhere and makes bad jokes. In other words, when she sees something as a challenge, she will give her all and when she is more relaxed, that's when her more clumsy personality comes through. She can't be considered talkative nor quiet, she will say what shs has to say when she has to say it and always try her best to remain polite. Gayoung does her best to always remain calm and poised although she can get a bit more cheery and bublly when surrounded by people she likes.

A booksmart person, Gayoung always found school to be relatively easy, because memorizing things just comes naturally to her. She has the memory of an elephant. While she is nice and will do everything in her power to stop someone from doing something stupid, if that someone still do something stupid, then she's done. She has a hard time forgiving and really takes betrayal harshly. That good memory of her means if you get on her bad side, you'll stay there for a long time. Gayoung knows how to hold a petty grudge. She believes in politeness and respect and actually don't mean to hurt people, never with words anyway. 

» Background

At 10 years old, Gayoung attended a BoA concert with her best friend and everything changed. Before, she was just an ordinary girl, enjoying playing with dolls and watching kids show on the televisionn. She was a good students and she always listend to her parents. But then, she fell in love with the music, with the stage and the crowd. The way everything shined and sparkled, the way people would jump around on stage and dance and ho the crowd would go wild with them. It was a truely new experience for Gayoung. Had her parents known she would do that, they probably would have never allowed there in the first place. When she got home, she quickly told her parents of her new dream of becoming an idol. They thought the dream would pass and that she would grow out of it, but to keep her satisfied and to make sure she would keep working hard at school, they got her a vocal teacher. Trained in RnB, her teaacher made her practice very hard when she found something in Gayoung's voice that she could developp.

She kept singing and taking classes until the end of middle school, when her parents discovered she had not yet given up on her silly dream. They told her high school was going to be more difficult and that she would have to work hard to be able to go to a good college. They told her to enroll in a cram school and gave her money for the tuition. Instead, she went back to her vocal teacher and took lessons in secret after school. Since she would come home late and then go back to studying, and since her grades were good, her parents never found out. During her high school days, she would often tell her friends of her dream and of how she would become a celebrity, something no one believed. They would ask her to sing a little and she would, but they never thought she was any good because she didn't display her true capabilities. She was able to maintain her trickery for two years before her parents discovered they are actually paying for a music school and not a cram school. They enrolled her in the real cram school and would make her call them there, also coming to get her to drive her straight home. They hoped that by cutting her ties with the music school, Gayoung would stop dreaming and realize she was wasting her time. And they made sure she didn't have enough free time to sneak away there. But there was one thing her parents had underestimated: the love Gayoung had for singing and the colossal place it now occupied in her life.

So she kept singing any free time she had. Warm ups, exercices, more practice... She would sign going to school and she would sign between her breaks. She found more information on the internet about how to keep developping her voice. During the middle of her senior year, it was announced that the school would hold the annual talent show and that they were looking for more participants. While students who usually applied would do choreography or humoristic skits, Gayoung decided to apply. She chose to sing Taeyang's Eyes, Nose, Lips. She practiced for that moment and found an intrumental she could sing along to. Came the day of the talent show. She was somewhere close to the end of the show because the organizers thought her song wouldn't do well at the beginning. She had picked a dark dress and when she came on the stage it was so silent. Most still didn't expect her to do good. But under the light, as she took a deep breath and let the she felt her fears fly away. This was what she always wanted. She cued the music and began singing and everyone was shook. She doesn't quite remember what happened after that, but she know she went backstage and sat on a chair there until the end. It was a show but not a contest, so there wasn't any winner, but a lot of students believed she did good enough to win. And on her chair, as people walked passed and told her how good she was and how much they appreciated and how they would now support her dreams if she wanted to be an Idol, she shed some tears because she knew this was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.

She went back home and the next day she was a star at school. There even was a video posted online of the talent show. She forwarded it to her parents, thinking they should know. Later than night, when she went back home her parents were waiting for her in the living room. They wanted to know what was the meaning of this video. She explained everything, even telling them that if they didn't suppor her she was ready to leave.That really got them thinking and after watching the video, agreed she had talents and that maybe she could try. Her parents agreed that she could pursue her dream under three conditions. First, she had to maintain her studies in something unrelated to art or music, as a back-up plan. Second, she had to use a stage name so that if her group failed, her name wouldn't be directly associated with the group and she could keep a serious job.Third, she couldn't be a trainee for more than 3 years without any group offer. Gayoung was overjoyed! She auditioned for many agencies and finally got picked by Cube.

Her trainee life was harsh but she enjoyed it. She was a horrible dancer but now she is okay, only when it come to choreography, though. Otherwise, she's a bit of a wild card. She was trained in rapping a little bit but was never good at it. People says her rapping is just fast speaking. The company made her train in vocals the most, something she was already good with, as they wanted to make sure she would be on point for the next project they had. After 6 months, they told her that she would join TAXI.

» PERSONALITY

Mingyu has this cool Appearance but there is definitely this twinkle of mischief and a smirk on the corner of his lips. Very easy going, Mingyu is the kind of person that become popular without even trying. Always neat and clean there is an air of freshness around him. It is wasy to talk to him because he is a great listener and will always lend his ear. When he is with his friends, he can act as the moodmaker, but also fade into the background to let others have the spotlight. A versatile person, Mingyu has always adapted himself to whoever he is spending time with. OFten having to play the role of the cool adult in front of people he does not know very well, he particularly enjoys the time when he gets to act more child-like and play pranks but this side of him only comes out when he is with his really close friends. Some could say that Mingyu is two-faced because of how he can act differently around different people, but Mingyu prefers thinking he's complex and has many side that are all part of him. That aspect of him earned him the title "Social Chameleon" by most of his friends.

Mingyu is the kind of person that enjoys verbal pranks, saying something unbelievable with a straight face and when the other person believes it he says "Gotcha!" with a smile. Despite the appearances, Mingyu is not self-confident and not the natural leader he can appear to be. He always had trouble with school and studying from a young age and that always lead him to believe he wasn't smart, a fact he compensated with his cheery attitude. Mingyu is also easily influenced by everything that surrounds him be it people or events. If someone says something mean about him he will instantly believes it and be down, if someone says something nice about him, he'll feel good for the whole day. Unfortunately, someone with popularity is bound to be hated for it and people comment about him all the time. Mingyu pretends he doesn't notice it, but only out of politeness. If someone ever says something to his face, he just smiles and instantly admits his own flaws, like how he's slow, a pushover, and not the smartest person, but he tries to downplay it by turning it into something more positive. For example he will explain that he appreciates the critic and that he will be working on it. 

» INTERACTIONS

She is older in age, but technically he is the senior because he debuted earlier. They met backstage of a show while the girls were singing their debut song. When he saw her, he was instantly drawn to her cool mature appearance and her height with legs for day. And then she began talking to her groupmates and he thought it was strange how cute and dorky. She didn't match his first impression of her. And then it was their time to perform and he was blown away by how talented a singer she was. Third impression had knocked him in the guts. He instantly became a fanboy. He got her number and is always telling her to cheer up and encourages her to do well. Gayoung enjoys the attention, but it is not in her current intentions to date, especially someone in a rising group like Seventeen. A scandal could destroy her and her group and she knows it. So she acts very carefully.

Hello everyone! (waves) My name is Son Gayoung but you can call me Aqua~ (in a sing song voice). I am currently 20 years old and I am from Cube. 

» how do you think you will handle on making a girl group with 8 other strangers?

It could be challenging! (eyes widen) I think we all come from different backgrounds and we all trained in different ways so it might be hard to adapt to each other. I personally don't think I'll be nervous or anything, I enjoy challenges. And if one of the girls can sing well, than that will give me ven more reasons to work hard! (laughs) Maybe one of them can help me with dancing. (wink)

» What will you contribute to the group?

My voice is all I have right now. Hopefully, they will apreciate it and we can do good music together. (smile)

» Do you have anything to say to the other girls?

Let's do our best to be a good group who will both support each other and make awesome music. I have faith that we can do it if we work hard! (smile)

COMMENTS: When you stated she was only trained in Cube for 6 months, I think you might have been talking about someone in the same situation as Eunji. Meaning someone who never got training before, but I wanted to be really good and U.Ji is such a good vocalist and so underrated that I had to give her some love. Also, I think it shows better how Gayoung can perform well under bad conditions and how her parents basically throw money at her so she will become a grown up but then don't want her to follow her own dreams, only theirs. Besides, the fact they never heard her sing before when she trained for almost ten years just shows how little they care about her activities other than studying. So all in all, I think I can justify her background XD
