BACKGROUND +

Being born in one of the coldest countries in the world and raised in one of the coldest cites. You'd expect a couple. Maybe that cuddling was a necessity of warmth. Not necessarily when fireplaces existed. Personality wise, his mother was always a very cold person. She wasn't fond of affections or "formalities" as she called them. Lyosha's father was absent most of his life. His parents marriage was very short lived, divorcing after just two years. Living with just his mother; Lyosha was rare to recieve affection. Overall, she seemed just to make sure he wasn't doing anything stupid, disappointing, or failing. Sometimes complaining about how his dad would blame Lyosha's imcompetence on her.

With the city of Dikson, Lyosha's heart froze. To his schoolmates, he was like a cold-ice prince. While he was remarkably good-looking, he was terribly unapproachable and hard to get to know. Throughout his middle school career, Minsoo had one goal: get to South Korea. While he knew it was a hard subject for his mom, he couldn't help but want to know more about his other half. Doing the best research he could, Lyosha had at least managed to learned reading and writing in Korean as well as some decent job options for him: performing. Though he'd never shown any particular interest in any specific subjects, he knew a little about kpop from some old albums his mother had hidden in the house. As well as some old tapes and CD's. from the looks of it, Lyosha was confident he could at least get himself to the role of visual. Singing and dancing was another story (Lyosha at the time was unaware of the training period he would have to endure) but he figured if he was too bad at it to become an idol maybe he could at least get a job as a model. That only took posing afterall.f Despite his mother never talking about his father, Minsoo wasn't stupid, he managed to uncover old pictures and records his mother hid in the house. Not only did they serve to give him his father's name. His father's name was Park Yanil, a translator for companies attempting to work internationally. 

Lyosha didn't make it to Korea like he thought. He thought he would be able to convince his mother to take him with a dramatic speech about "figuring out where he came from to know who he was", then her not caring but secretely booking tickets. Instead, he got shipped in coach after his mother got into an accident and died. Aleksey Lyosha Nikiforov met his father after 14 years at his mother's funeral and returned home with him to Seoul. Turns out after his parents' divorce his mother had changed his name to be full Russian, his father called him by his Korean name he had when he was first born: Minsoo. 

Unlike how he had hoped, Yanil and Minsoo did not get along as well as he thought. Yanil seemed to have a problem with the Russian side of him. Hiding away Minsoo's old clothing from Russia, not buying him food from Russia no matter how much he begged, even trying to change Minsoo's name (again) to Park Minsoo. Minsoo hoped his dad would be just like his mother, maybe he was just misunderstanding him. If Minsoo just kept an open mind... It was hard though when Yanil tried to oppress the biggest part of Minsoo's life; his culture.

Being in South Korea, Minsoo's frozen heart melted, and when ice melts, it becomes water. Not only was his in a state of mourning for the mother whom he was just realizing had her own way of caring for him, but he was exposed to feeling he never felt before. Warm nights, hugs and sunny days. The never environment gave Minsoo a complete personality change and left many to wonder about his actual masculinity. With his femimine looks he's often been mistaken for being a female, after graduating high school, Minsoo found himself becoming an ulzzang to get some extra funds.

As his popularity increased, Minsoo naturally gained the attention of companies. It's often that they take popular ulzzangs and train them to debut. Top Entertainment came to him first, but he quickly denies their offer when he realizes he would be the third Minsoo to join that company. BigHit came to him next, they didn't have any Minsoo's and BTS seemed to be popular so at least they were successful.

Note about Russian names: they have three name a first name (Aleksey) that is used as a formality among aquantinces, a diminutive name used among friends and family (Lyosha) and a last name (Nikiforov).

TRAINEE LIFE +

As a trainee, Minsoo cried a lot. He was a pretty emotional guy nowadays. While he didn't necessarily feel any hardships, being a trainee is never easy. There were times Minsoo woke up and forgot how he even came to become a trainee. Minsoo was also a subject of discrimination and bullying, only being half Korean. It was most obvious at times when he misprounounced something and it would come out in a Russian accent, not to mention his struggle with chopsticks would be eternal. Like most things in his life, Minsoo ignored it and focused on his one goal: debut.

While he wasn't a popular one among trainees, it didn't leave him entirely friendless, for those who had befriended him. He was quick to become a mom figure. Being one of the older trainees along with his sensitive personality won them over. His newfound friends were also helpful to him, assisting him with his Korean and other Korean things like food, or how to use chopsticks.

His occasional homesickness didn't help either. There were times when trainees found Minsoo sticking his head in the freezer because he was missing the cold. He missed Russia in general; warming up his freezing fingers in the fire, ice skating, piroshki, lebedushka, speaking Russian in general. 

PERSONALITY +

The frozen turned out to have a gentle soul. The foil of AGM's happy viruses and intense personalities. He has yet to ever express anything other than absolute serenity and panicking. Anger and frustration seem to be emotions he will never express. Instead, temperment and soothing, sweeaping his calming aura through the group like a blanket. That's actually how he got his nickname Blanket-hyung. He had also earned the nickname with his overall "mom" personality, spoiling the maknae ten too many times, but always remembers to include everyone in his group hugs. The hyung gets special attention from their eomma as well, while he doesn't spoil them, he showers them with enough affection for all their hard work that it feels like it.

Minsoo is also known for being one of the more reliable members. They never include him when it comes to pranking people because he has a habit of telling the prankee that they're being pranked. Minsoo sacrifices a lot to be able to be by AGM's side, while he still has his love for his homeland of Russia. He can't help but love his groupmates as well, while it pains him to do so at times, Minsoo will often skip Russian holidays to be there for his groupmate. Or not buy a certain Russian food he's been especially missing to buy food to cheer up his group. Not using his native tongue and talking to old friends because he knows he needs to get better at Korean for the sake of AGM, no matter how badly he wanted to hear someone called him Lyosha again.

While Minsoo tended to live a life with affection or a mother's touch; he knew a lot about love. He knew love didn't just mean giving hugs and kisses. Love meant making a person a happy without getting a thank you. Love is giving a meal of your favorite food even when you're acting like a spoiled brat. Or doing whatever it takes to make you happy even if it makes you sad yourself. Minsoo wants to give the world the love his mother gave him, even when he didn't know it.

If it hadn't showed in his childhood enough, I'll say it again. Minsoo Nikiforov is quite a determined person. He doesn't like have his goals not be accomplished. In fact, some would say he might even be ruthless when it comes to trying to get what he wants. Don't be mistaken, Minsoo is too weak-hearted to be able to want to manipulate or trick anyone to be able to get what he wants. He tends to just use people by accident. Yes, it's possible to accidentally manipulate people when you're an emotional piece of . Afterall, who likes to see their mom crying, while he may only be a mother in spirit, he's crying face really pushes people. Minsoo can't help it, he's just a feeling kind of person.

There's a lot you could learn from all sorts of people. From Minsoo, some advice tends to be especially deep. Afterall, usually it's the people like Minsoo that give the best advice in TV shows. Those who know loss and have suffered, those who are in a whole new environment from where a they were for many years. He knows what it's like to be lost, thrown in a new environment after suffering a tragedy, to not understand, to be hurt on purely reason you simply can't control. His advice has always brought up the question of how? Minsoo's like a fridge (yes, I'm using this analogy) the delicious jams and milk is in the front for everyone to see, and the food that less people want are hidden in the back. The rotten eggs no one bothered to throw away. People don't know a lot about Minsoo, who his family was, how he came to be in Korea and why he even became an idol. It's easier this way he thinks, they don't need to know.

Another way to add to the motherly spirit: his role as a peacemaker. While AGM may seem like squad goals or something like that, they are still a group of horomonal 21-18 year olds. is bound to happen. One second it may all be at peace and harmony, within a two seconds it's a Civil War (probably over something stupid like the last piece of chicken). Luckily, that's where Minsoo comes in. Stopping the fighting and coming up with a solution, it's not always practical but it's better than fighting (like splitting that chicken to 10 pieces).

While Minsoo's mother proved that not all mothers are worrywarts, Minsoo is just one of those moms. You can practically hear Minsoo's internal screaming when the group wants to something that's considered slightly dangerous. Hell, you know how much will power it will take for him not to faint if someone showed their abs. His mind tends to go to the worse case scenarios and honestly, he's probably fearing the apocalypse will be coming soon. If he were to get any advice it would be to calm the down. It doesn't help how easily startled he is, screaming even if just saw a fly. God forbid he ever go into a haunted house (wink, wink, wink). It was a tragic prank gone wrong when someone snuck up behind him and he screamed until he passed out.

As mentioned before, Minsoo seems to have two modes: the epitome of serene and calm, to the epitome of panic. It takes a hell of a load of will power to keep himself from crying on camera (he can't stop himself from tearing up however). He is often caught wiping his eyes or ducking his head so no one can. Why's he crying though? Hell if anyone but him knew. Most of the time it's out of fear, half the thoughts that run through his head is what to do if a member is going to die because they might die because holy crap they're doing something. Crying makes everything just a little bit better sometimes.

Now here's a side of Minsoo you would never believe exist: his vainity. While he may seem like a caring, crybaby of mother to everyone, there's something inside him like the evil stepmother. Minsoo's always been complimented by his looks his whole life, not to mention he has the role of the visual of the group. He can't but be a bit egostical when it comes to appearance, he was an ulzzang for goodness sake!
