In what he lacks in height, Taeryung makes up in energy. Many suspects that his shortness is due to his caffeine addiction, he's always since drinking some sort of caffeinated drink. Hence, if you hear a thumping noise, it's probably Taeryung bouncing around the cafe on his DS. Actually, scratch that, he was always bouncing, whether he was playing a card game, board game, on his DS, or at a computer or console.

As a 21-year-old, Taeryung is in that stage where he's not a kid anymore but he's too young to be considered a real adult. Most people would point out he's much more on the kid side (in more than just his appearance). Taeryung has major FOMO so he's always trying to make sure he's having fun and playing around, not to mention he's scared of becoming an old grump, hence his whole life.

Despite being known as a drama queen, Taeryung is also the baby of the cafe, even though he's not the youngest. He always seems to be around the cafe (it's his FOMO coming out), either chatting up regulars or just cuddling with them. Sometimes he comes in with junk or things he thinks his coworkers would like. Taeryung is a natural people person, especially his friends, the cafe quickly became his comfort place. He's constantly becoming friends with newer customers though, to the others he seems to be friends with everyone. He's constantly running up to random people on the street who turn out to be his friends.

While he has his comfort zone of familiar people. It's Taeryung attention needy side required as many friends as possible. He had nicknames for most people and always had a friend by his side. If he didn't have a friend by his side, he'd just have to find people to become his friends. It's the FOMO again, he needs people. he needs attention, he needs friends.

If only he was always so sweet... However, he tends to get his man period at least three times a week. Usually, it's just a little short-temper with someone getting the silent treatment for like an hour. He's an overthinker who tends to get paranoid about someone doing something to spite him and get angry. Not to mention his body language is just everywhere. He's constantly making big gestures, whether with his hands or his whole body.

To add to his period symptoms, he's probably more emotional than an actual girl on their period. He cries, like at anything, he literally cried while playing Pokemon White (This is your fifth time playing you know N is part of Team Plasma). He rage quits are the worse, the rage quits means something is going to be thrown at someone (and it's probably going to be Minjin). it doesn't take much to get Taeryung to react, he tends to take everything to heart as he is usually an honest person.

To match his emotionalness, he's quick to act, especially when he's in a bad mood. That's why he's never hesitated in the middle of intense combat games, he's quick to act in all situation, though that means he hasn't really thought it through. Going in guns blazing is one strategy (his favorite, unsurprisingly) but it's not always the best. He tends to leave a bit of... destruction in his way from his impulsiveness.

If it's not obvious by the chair/drink/object throwing, constant yelling and jumping around, and the overall mess he leaves: Taeryung likes to have attention. He's an only child, it's almost natural that he's used to the attention that it would be weird for no one to be paying attention to him. He needs to know people are aware of his presence so he has a habit of randomly calling people out just so they look at him.

city of Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus was the Kim Vasilis Taeryung. Vasilis being his Greek name and Taeryung his Korean. Both his parents were Korean, but as anthropologists moved the family to Cyprus to study the culture and customs. Taeryung grew up bilingually, speaking Korean in the house and Greek outside. He also had to learn Turkish in school as a requirement and is semi-fluent. He's an only child as both his parents were more focused on their work than making a family.

Even despite both his parents' work ethic, Taeryung was never neglected. Yes, he was home alone a lot, but when his parents were around and not working, they gave him their full, undivided attention.

I'm just different
In a country like Cyprus, there weren't many Asians. Taeryung stood out like a black bear in a snowstorm. People tended to... "poke and prod" at him because he was so different. He looked different, he sometimes brought different foods to school for lunch, he spoke differently with his parents. He was bullied most of elementary and middle school in fact, people told him racial slurs like "ching ching". He even got called a chink.

Taeryung was determined to make most of high school, and most importantly, stop the bullying. It was easy to transfer schools away from the bullies, how to keep the other kids from bullying him was a new problem. While he couldn't change how he looked, he could separate his Korean and Greek cultures as much as possible. He stopped bringing Korean lunches and started bringing Cyprus lunches. He only spoke Greek outside the house, even to his parents. If someone even tried to ask him a question about Asia he'd deny that he knew anything about Asia since he spent his whole life in Cyprus.

While he was treated better than ever, Taeryung wasn't happy having to hide who he was. as much as he loved eating halloumi and koupepia for lunch, he wanted to bring it to school because he wanted to, not because he was scared of people making fun of his kimchi rice or steamed buns. He wanted to be able to speak Korean in public unashamed.

He felt trapped.

Logging out of reality
Video games became his way of coping with the bullying in elementary school. He blocked out the rest of the world with his Gameboy, then the DS whenever that came out. Pokemon Red, the first pokemon game, was the first game he ever had. From there he got every pokemon game and played them on repeat. He also got games like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts as gifts from his parents, along with a PlayStation. His video game collection grew rapidly through elementary and middle school.

Taeryung got into card games because his parents, who got worried how much time he spent on his Playstation or DS. They start with a classic deck of cards and taught him tradition Korean card games (they are anthropologists after all) like Badugi. He quickly grew to like the game and his parents further encouraged card games by buying him Hwatu cards to play Godori. Soon family nights became game night with cards all over the table, board games came naturally with the nature of game night always introducing new games, whether it be from online or from his parents' knowledge.

Online games came about during his high school years. He needed an outlet for all the Korean he hasn't been able to express, so he decided to make online friends. League of Legends was a game he always wanted to try but didn't attempt until high school. He bought headphones with a mic and logged into the Korean server. He quickly made a group of friends who introduced him to more games to play with them online, and ultimately: more friends.

Through his new online friends, Taeryung was finally exposed to the Korean lifestyle he wanted. They could talk about k-pop and dramas with him, he could use aegyo and honorifics, he could actually speak Korean. They felt like his friends more than his real-life friends did.

I gotta go my own way
By the time it came to start applying to colleges, Taeryung knew what he needed to do. It was easy for him to get into Yonsei University, he graduated valedictorian thanks to online friends teaching him the rigorous Korean student life and his fear of not getting in for being stupid. He doubled in game design and computer science almost naturally. His escape from reality has been video games most of his life, why wouldn't he want to become a designer himself?

Taeryung packed up his life in Cyprus to move Korea almost literally. Cyprus culture was just as unknown to Korean as Korean was to Cyprus. But now there was no one staring and point at him in the street (well there are but for reasons, we'll get to later). No one asked him why his eyes look so small anymore, he felt accepted in Seoul. He made friends just about everywhere, now people only judged him for his personality in his mind, and that's all that mattered.

Taeryung does still do things Cyprus related, he still makes Cyprus food at his apartment, just no one eats it but him, he only speaks Greek with his parents now. Yes, he would like to be open about his uprising, but he feels freer than ever.

Sit still look pretty
How did Taeryung life start to become what it is now? It started the first year of college actually, innocent 18-year-old Kim Taeryung didn't know much about the beauty standards of Korea, nor did he know how well he fits the bill. His best friend, who was apparently also very good-looking pushed him to start an Instagram account (mainly because he wanted to be able to talk to Taeryung about it).

Taeryung grew popular quickly, like really quickly. His newfound ulzzang friends said they didn't grow that quickly, most of them have fewer followers than him by a lot actually. Taeryung has never posted anything special, just selfies, pictures of his food or friends. He got nicknamed the nerdy flowerboy ulzzang because of his feminine appearance and his Instagram showing off his gaming habits. Taeryung doesn't see it as nerdy but it gains him more followers so he's never retaliated. (more of his Instagram).

Taeryung's fan base continued to grow, many begged him to open a YouTube channel, which he reluctantly did so. He named his YouTube channel the same as his Instagram and kept the videos mainly as vlogs and occasionally whatever fans asked for which included routines, makeup videos (which were him trying to figure out makeup) and q&s's with his fellow ulzzangs.

His channel never grew to be too popular within the two years of starting it, but he didn't mind, while it started out because Jaekwang told him to open an Instagram it became a hobby and ultimately outlet for his attention-needy side. He tries to post on YouTube at least once a week and posts on Instagram daily.

Welcome to the present
Fast forwarding, Kim Taeryung is now 21 and bored. He got in a comfortable rhythm with YouTube and Instagram and needed something new to do. His best friends, Jaekwang, had become a part-time model while finishing his own degree encouraged to go out and look for a job. Hyerin, his other best friend who also had a job, told him to work at a cafe since he's so good looking. He whined that he just wanted to play video games.

It wasn't long after Hyerin came busting his apartment door with an application for MP Gaming Cafe. Taeryung's heard about the place from his followers (apparently Doogi is a big YouTuber and very cute) but never actually went. He told her it might make him look bad because he's also a YouTuber, she quickly told him he was just a wannabe and got kicked out.

Taeryung quickly got over it and decided to pay the cafe a visit with his filled out application form. Common fans between Minjin and Taeryung come frequently when they saw both Minjin and Taeryung's updates about the cafe. Taeryung's social nature quickly gains him a spot as a friend to most of the staff and he works after his afternoon classes mainly, but always hangs out when he's not busy.

Aside from the cafe, Taeryung has been making means for himself through sponsorships on YouTube and Instagram. Occasionally, he does get invited for modelling campaigns and events because his connections to Hyerin and Jaekwang.

♥ Games Considering at one point they were literally Taeryung's escape from reality, it's a given that video games, board games, and card games are his favorite things in the world. He's very open-minded about the game and will play just about anything anyone recommends him. His favorites are the ones he grew up with though: Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Kirby.

♥ Beauty/Skincare He just had to be so naturally beautiful that it turned into a small career because his two also beautiful friends pushed to use his beauty to get money. Oh, how could they make him start liking putting masks on and other skincare stuff he used to not understand, and go to spas and salons on a normal basis, and learn how to do makeup like eyeliner that makes his eyes look so foxy. Some friends he has...

♥ Beverages There really is no other way to put it, most people see Taeryung drinking something more than actually eating. Whether it's coffee, tea, milk (preferably banana), juice, etc. He always has a drink in hand (non-alcoholic).

♥ Pastel Taeryung has a very soft image according to the internet, it was a complete coincidence that he just happened to follow a pastel aesthetic with everything of his life. From his hair to the filters on his Instagram.

♥ Cats He grew up with three cats back home in Cyprus so naturally, he's fond of them. He doesn't have one currently but has plans to adopt in the future.

 

Dislikes
♥ When his fans give him titles As a bully victim, Taeryung doesn't like being labeled. His bullies were always labeling him, yet his fans do the same thing. They call him a flower boy, and nerdy, and feminine, even when they're meant to be good things it brings him back to when titles and labels were the outside world's definition of him. He just wants to be Taeryung.

♥ Alcohol He has many reasons for hating alcohol, it tastes bitter and doesn't satisfy his sweet tooth, he's a lightweight, and he's scared of what he might do when gets too drunk.

♥ Messiness While he knows that he can cause a mess when he's in a bad mood, he does his best to keep things organized. One thing he hates the most is not being able to find something because everything isn't where they're supposed to be.

♥ People louder than him Kim Taeryung knows he's a loud person, everyone he knows has told him at least once a week. If someone manages to be louder than him than that's definitely too loud.

♥ Bath Hyerin tells him to shut up and do it for the aesthetic, but Taeryng doesn't want to sit in his own filth for half an hour with colored water.

 

Habits
♥ Bilingual Struggles Being bilingual is hard. Taeryung often gets confused despite being in Korea, where no one speaks Greek since he's so used to speaking both. Sometimes a friend will say something and he'll accidentally answer in Greek, or he'll say something in Greek but think it's Korean, confusing everyone including himself. The worse is when he has a brainfart and can't remember how to speak Korean (Idk how to explain it but it's a thing that happens!).

♥ Talking to himself This especially happens when he's in an intense game and trying to think of strategy (those few times he does). No one understands what he's saying because it's a scramble of Korean and Greek

♥ Tapping his fingers While he's waiting for anything Taeryung will absentmindedly tap his fingers on the closest flat surface he can, usually a table or his phone case.

 

Hobbies
♥ Shopping It came with becoming an ulzzang (and being a nerd). Whether it's online or window shopping, he's always looking at the latest products to come out. It ranges from beauty, skincare, fashion, games (of any kind), and merch.

♥ Brainstorming At least that's what Taeryung calls it, Hanyeon calls it staring off into the distance like a weirdo. He keeps a journal to hold ideas for video games he wants to create once he gets his degree, videos to film, what he could post on Instagram and things he think would be cool at the cafe.

♥ Playing video games Taeryung is always ready to play, even when you think he can't. He has 256 gigabytes on his phone for all the games, his Nintendo switch is permanently in his bag, along with his DS that he'll never let go off. Heck, he has a gaming room that even Minjin is impressed by.

 

Fun Facts
♥ When he finally gets a cat, Taeryung wants to get a Russian blue and name it Noctis, after a character from Final Fantasy

♥ The other character tend to shy away when his friends come to the cafe because apparently "there's too many good-looking people"

♥ Taeryung rarely actually orders anything from the cafe, when the others ask about it he promises he plans, but it tends to slip his mind.

♥ Jaekwang called him short once and Taeryung kicked him in the kneecaps to which he responded, "What can't aim any higher?" It's a miracle he's still alive.

♥ Hanyeon and Jikyung both thought Taeryung was a girl when he first applied and told him he looked really pretty with a boy cut. He had answered, "I don't think you need to add boy to me having a cut."

♥ Taeryung doesn't invite people to apartment often, he likes to have that times to make Cyprus dishes and talk to his parents, when he does his friends always take full advantage.

♥ Taeryung gets homesick often, it's usually his biggest trigger for a sudden mood change. He may be happy one second, then something will remind of home and make him sad, then he will get angry and defensive if someone other than Hyerin or Jaekwang tries to comfort him.

♥ He has a collection of pokemon themed crap from onesies to makeup and skincare. He has a portable phone charger shaped like a Pokeball.

♥ Sometimes when he gets mad at someone he throws his Pokeball charger at them and tells them to shut up.

♥ He gets monthly care packages from his parents fill with Cyprus candies that they don't have in Korea.

♥ Only Hyerin and Jaekwang know Taeryung's from Cyprus, everyone else thinks he was born and raised in Korea.

Due to fact, Taeryung is always insisting he's a "manly man", Jimin pretends to expect him to be. Whenever Taeryung hugs him when he visits, he'll jokingly push him away and say, "Men don't hug." But he hugs his son eventually. Compared to his eccentric wife, Jimin is the one to hold the insanity together. For example, making sure Ephthailia doesn't overpack their care package.

Taeryung gets a bit emotional with the care packages come in because his mom always puts a letter talking about how proud she is of him persuing his dreams and how much she and his dad miss him (it's hard for them to call because time zones). Along with food, Jia tries to support her son's newfound career in the beauty industry by sending him beauty products native to Europe.

Jaekwang was the one that helped/forced him into getting an Instagram because he was lonely and wanted another ulzzang friend other than Hyerin. He taught Taeryung most of what he knows about makeup and beauty. Jaekwang's a full-time model at Blossom Entertainment but he's able to get away and hang out with Taeryung at his apartment. Taeryung and Jaekwang were roommates their first year of college and Jaekwang is a cosmetics major.

Jaekwang makes frequent appearances on both Taeryung's YouTube and Instagram. Taeryung respects him for all his knowledge beauty wise, he does his best to not let his temper get the best of him with Jaekwang because he's much more fragile than most people. They're very comfortable with each other though as they both understand the struggle of people assuming them to be girls, however, Jaekwang's 189 cm so it happens a lot less to him than Taeryung.

Hyerin's yet another ulzzang and a full-time but under Ever Models. Hyerin serves as a middle of Taeryung and Jaekwang, she's not as loud and energetic as Taeryung but not shy and listless like Jaekwang. She's like a quieter, always pissed off Taeryung. Taeryung jokingly calls him "some I know" and says he was forced into their friendship.

Hyerin, however, is the best at handling Taeryung on his man period. If he gives someone a silent treatment, she's the one that gets them talking again. Or when he gets in really bad moods she's the one to cheer him up. She knows how to handle all sorts of people problems, especially Taeryung's outbursts.

As Minjin is a more successful YouTuber, Taeryung gets defensive if anyone tries to bring up his own channel when Minjin is around. Especially since he's a beauty channel and Minjin is gaming which is so much more... Manly... They do get along pretty well considering they're both hard-core game lovers.

Minjin's always understanding of when Taeryung doesn't come into work because homesickness, though he thinks it because he misses a small town in Korea. Taeryung is a bit intimidated because how popular he is on YouTube but he's doing his best to not treat Minjin like a celebrity, he didn't even know his channel until he started working at MP so that helps. 

 

Friend | Lee Jikyung | organized, caring, witty

Jikyung, or should Taeryung say his lord and savior Lee Jikyung. She's just so good at life she can also help him with his own life. In return, he does his best to always listen to her and help her and Hanyeon when they need helping with Minjin and the rest of the rowdy crowd.

Jikyung reminds Taeryung to do things like sending back packages to his parents. Or telling him to make sure he checks if his skincare expires (which has happened before). Hyerin and Jikyung have never met but Hyerin loves her because there's finally someone else to help him function. Taeryung practically runs when Jikyung asks for him to do something at the cafe. He's like a puppy.

 

Friend | Hwang Hanyeon | Assertive, neat, tactical

Hanyeon and Taeryung are more like on and off friends. When they get along, all is well, they game to their hearts' content and all is fine. However, both of them tend to moody, and Taeryung's flair of drama doesn't blend well with passive-aggressiveness. Not to mention, the emotions are always high when Smash bros are is being played.

She gets the silent treatment most of anyone but it never lasts long enough for her to actually notice. Hyerin's just that amazing with his moodiness. She teases him for how he acts around Jikyung the most of anyone.

 

History of wrong guys/girls

♥ Jaekwang: That's right, these ers dated. They both regret it deeply and wondered how it even happened. Honestly, I can't even tell you, but Hyerin makes fun of them all the time for even trying considering they're basically brothers to her.

♥ Eleni: A girl from Cyprus, they never worked out because Taeryung was never ready to open up to her about his Korean heritage. Eleni noticed the distance and broke it off with him. She understood why he never seemed to open up but told him if he ever wants a serious relationship he has to let that fear go.
