Min Jae may look small and cute, but she has a very confident exterior that she carries around with her. There isn't a lot you can say that will get under her skin. She is confident in the way she looks and how much she weighs. She is one of the few people in the world to truly loves herself inside and out, and it definitely shows when she is around others. She doesn't give one way or another what you think of her because she is comfortable with who she is. 

She has a will that cannot be broken so easily, which is what makes her such great idol material. Long hours training? Done. Rumors flying around about her? Who cares. Doesn't see her family very often? She will get through it. Her dream is to be an idol just like her brotherm so she became tough when she was yonger and stayed that way. 

She has such an odd charm that trainers and producers think fans would love about her. She has a quirky way of speakiing and walking. She has a mentality that most trainees would kill for. Her style is different when compared to her appearence. Her unspoken slient charm can draw people in if she lets it...problem is she is still learning how to use it to it;s full extent. 

Min Jae is seriously blunt and will tell you how it is. She says what she means and means what she says and sometimes can come across as seriously harsh. She has a little trouble respecting the trainees older than her, but most of the time uses honorifics to address them, though she will of course forget form time to time. 

She considers herself an interlligent person and when it comes to answering questions or getting the upper handi n an arguement, the side of her that thinks she knows everything shows and it can definitely get on people's nerves. It's not that the other person is dumb or wrong...she just right. 

She has a tendancy to be very cynical or judging a book by it's cover. She doesn't like to admit that's how she is, but she can get seriously judgemental sometimes. She has an idea in her head about how an idol is supposed to look and move and sound, and her first impressions can be very skewed sometimes. 

 

background

Choi Min Jae was born in Incheon, South Korea on October 4th, 2000. She was a healthy baby and the third and last addition to the Choi family. She grew up with two older brothers and her father who was a soccer coach. 

From a young ahe, she was taught how to play soccer and was on mini soccer teams with other girls and a couple boys. She played it all though her childhood with of course her father as her caoch. Both of her brothers played too so they would practice together in the grass field just outside their house. 

When Min Jae was six years old, her older brother Minho was accepted into SM Entertainment to begin his training. She didn't know what that meant at the time and was confused as to where her older brother disappeared to. She spent a lot more time her oldest brother Min Seok. He showed her how to ride a bike and tie her shoes and write her name. He was a big influence in how she was raised and he grew increasinly protective of his youngest sibling. 

Min Ho debuted when Min Jae was eight years old. She got to watch a lot of television with him on it and remembered dancing in the living room to the first Inkigayo performance her brother was part of. She decided then that she wanted to be an idol too. It looked like a lot of fun and she wanted to be just like Minho.

Her family was opposed to the idea at first. It was hard enough on them not getting to see their son all too often, but their daughter gone the same amount of time? It didn't seem like a good idea to them. Though it was what she wanted, and her family was aprehensive, but supported her newfound dreams. Hell, is she didn't like it, she could always quit and come home. 

So she attended a casting call at eleven years old and was picked out of the line-up of little girls who had also shown up. It was already a small stand out to them that the younger sister of their succesful boy group member was auditioning, so after reviewing her tapes and debating it for awhile, she was accepted and her parents signed a contract with them in 2009. 

She trained for five years and worked insansely hard. Being able to debut so young isn't easy, but SM was famous for putting their idols out there young. When she was thirteen, she was advised by the company to move into one of the trainee dorms so she could spend more time up close and personal with the trainers and other trainees. So she packed up and moved out to Seoul and has lived there ever since.

He skypes Min Jae often though. He worries sometimes about how she does on her own. Protective of his litter sister and hopes to see more of her often in the future.

— Older Brother • Choi Min Ho / 24 / Idol in SHINee / hardworking, funny, talented / his initial reaction to Min Jae getting a contract with SM was mixed. Not because he didn't think she coud do it or be great at it, just that it was a lot of work. Your time gets monopolized and it essientially up every aspect of your life. Though when she convinced him that she anted it and wanted it bad, he fully supported her and talks about his younger sister in interviews and variety shows often. It's not often that two siblings train an debut under the same label, but SM has of course done it before. 

FRIENDS

— Good Freind • Lee Taemin / 22 / Idol in SHINee / humble, funny, insanely talnted / They met during an SM town rehearsal officially. She was dancing backup for one of his famous dance breaks and he was delighted to finally get to meet his bandmate's younger sister. Th two of them spend a lot of time simply talking. As performers, they spend enough time singing anf dancing and sometimes it's nice to just sit down and talk about something other than that. She refers to him as a friend and labelmate. 

— Friend/Mentor • So Ju Hyun (Seohyun) / 24 / Idol in SNSD / caring, sweet, reliable / These two met in the SM town builing. SNSD was in the building taking a tour to meet some of the new trainees and they walked in on a little twelve year old Min Jae dancing her off. Min Jae took an immediate liking to Seohyun as she had a lot in common with her. She sees Seohyun as a mentor and whenever she has an important question, is feeling down about training and debut, is stressted, or it simply excited, she will whip out her phone and let Seohyun know.

TRAINEE life

Trainee life for Min Jae was a hectic. Lots of trainees came to her in the beginning wanting to know all about Minho. What he was like, how did he grow up, did she talk to him often, could she give them his number. It was all very overwhelming at first. 

Eventually, the fangirls and boys died down and she was able to really start focusing on her training. Singing came quite naturally to her. She didn't know the potential she had to be a main vocalist when she went in, but she really surprised herself. Her singing skills really flourished and every single time she went into training, she always learning something new and got better. 

Rapping was also something that was easy. She didn't spend as much time learning it as she did singing and dancing, but she had a natural rhythm with it and developed a small skill for it. 

Dancing was what the young trainee had trouble with and spend the most time learning. She was more muscular from soccer, so the cute or y dances didn't come easy to her at all. She spend hous upon hours working until she could get her skills up to par. When she was thirteen, she was nearly dropped because she didn't seem to be improving in dance at all. With some help from Seohyun though, she was able to get to where she needed to be. 

Minho was there for her as much as he could be when she was training, but they both knew it was something she was going to have to work on herself.

How do you feel about being a chosen member of UNIVERSAL✮ 13 ? 

I pretty much figured that I would be chosen for the younger sub-group. I have been working very hard for five years and I am confident in the talent I have. I am super exicted and I can't wait to meet my brother out on stage. 

Do you think the group will be a hit? 

I definitely think our group stands a good chance of being popular. We are debuting from SM Entertainment and they always seem to get really popular really fast. 

who do you think people will compare you to?

Personally for myself, I know I am going to be compared to my brother. They want to know if I'm going to be as talented and succesful as he is. I hope to pleasently surprise them. 

As for the group, I imagine we will be compared to the popuar girl groups out right now. Twice and GFriend come to mind. Also IOI, Gugudan, and Cosmic Girls. We are going to be one group out of a hundred that already exist. 

are there any rivals you have in mind?

Honestly, I think it's going to be a battle of the girl groups in SM Entertainment. We will definitely be compared against our own lablemates. Girls Generation, Red Velvet, F(x). We hopefully can stand out with our own style and concepts.
