The Good + 

 

Analytical - Junghwan analyzes everything that he comes across, from research data to the behavior of the people around him. This gives him a knack for spotting unexpected patterns and connections that other people might overlook. 

Original - Thanks to his unrelenting imagination, Junghwan can come up with creative, counterintuitive ideas that wouldn’t occur to most people. Not all of these ideas are feasible, of course, but his willingness to think outside the box can produce remarkable innovations, new angles to a problem or challenge.

Open-Minded - Junghwan is driven by curiosity and an intense desire to learn everything that he can. He tends to be receptive to new ideas and ways of doing things – as long as those ideas are supported by sound reasoning. BACKGROUND 

 

The Tailor's Son - Feeling Placeless

 

Junghwan grew up in a fairly normal home, especially as far as Simdong was concerned. Most of the children there, including himself and his siblings, were born into a famliy business of some sort. He happened to grow up in the tailor's household, a home full of sewing machines, tool boxes, tape measures all over the place, and fabric mixed with yarn sitting in piles at any given time. 

 

His mother was born into the family business and took it over, marrying his father later and adding him to the fold so-to-speak. 

 

His family stayed close-knit throughout his childhood, which he was thankful for, but an obvious divide started showing as he got older. His siblings seemed competely normal, outgoing with brighter personalities. Easy going and approachable. 

The older he got, the less he felt like he had anything in common with his family.

 

He wasn't the best at making friends, so he only had one or two throughout school life, sometimes the target of teasing and snide comments. A piece of his life he swore he was fine with, assuring he preferred to spend his time alone. Both of his siblings, however, were social and had consistant friendship circles, often times having to step in on his behalf to defend him. 

 

He emerged as a bit of a wallflower, people knowing more of him than actually knowing him personally. Everyone seems to know everyone in a small town, but he often caught adults wondering why he was always so detatched. 

 

 

He also didn't really have a direction when high school ended. 

His older brother moved onto a big college on a sports scholarship, bringing in money from his career, becoming the household example of success.
His little sister became passionate about the famliy business and is the obvious choice to take it over when she's old enough. 

 

So that left Junghwan in an interesting position, a little wayward. His father advised that he get a job in town and wait on school. A more practical and stable approach for his directionless middle child. It was his mother, however, that gave him the go ahead to choose whatever it was he wanted, even if it was impractical. 

 

Junghwan settled on school, getting accepted to Hongik University, majoring in Architectual Studies and Physics. 

University was definitely an adjustment at first. A brand new landscape with thousands of unfamiliar faces and new responsibilities. For the first couple months, he sort of stumbled through on his own. Until he had a run in with one of the students there and kind of got up into his small friend group and new community. 

He wasn't sure what to make of the small lgbtq+ presence when he was first exposed to it, but it didn't take long for him to get comfortable there, getting some more confidence and felt a little more explorative, finding his footing internally a little more. 

University is where he officially delcared his uality, which gave him more strength than he was expecting. 

 

 

The last couple months before his graduation were busy and stressful, finals cutting into his personal time and sleep schedule, though he's proud of himself for getting it all done. 

 

For him, the hardest part of leaving was packing up his dorm. He'd lived there alone since he was 19, and taking the posters down, putting all his keepsakes in boxes, it was really hard for him to say goodbye to the space. 

It was also difficult to say goodbye to his best friend, who lives quite a bit farther away than he was hoping. 

 

He worries that he might be spending the summer by himself before he really figures out what it is he wants to do and where he wants to go. He's thinking that he'll search for desgin companies in Seoul, anyone who is looking for space designer. He worried about the people back home not remembering him, or worse, still having his childhood impressions in their mind. 

"I just don't want this summer to be uneventful...it's really the last downtime I have before I have to transition to some kind of adulthood." 

 

He also wonders if his mom changed his room at all while he was gone as he is moving back into his childhood home for the summer. 

 

He's excited to be back on the coast though. He loves the ocean!

Junghwan has been contiuously compared to his older brother by classmates and adults alike, but Jungwoo has been so meticiulous to make sure his brother doesn't feel like he doesn't measure up. 

Jungwoo lives out in California, playing soccer professionally. He calls his little brother to check in frequently, definitely taking on that oldest sibling protectiveness. He admits that he was never worried about Junghwan being able to make his way in the world. He promises that he'll try to fly out some time during the summer now that Junghwan will be home. 

"Junghwan is really unique and incredibly smart. He'll have no trouble paving a road for himself. And I have faith he won't be alone when he does. His personality makes him more selective when it comes to friends, but people are going to eventually take notice of him." 

 

 

 

Junghwan is particularly close with his younger sister, Jisoo being extremely bright and bubbly. She has from time to time thought that he was a little unconventional, but she's defensive when it comes to people talking about him. 
 

She still lives at home, learning the tricks of the trade so she can take over the family business when her mother is ready to retire. She's very passionate and outgoing, popular among her classmates. 

 

"Gotta let Jung-ah have his space. He'll always snap back to us, but he is very comfortable in his inner world. It's where he recharges. He's actually alot of fun to hang out with when he's not worried about appearences." 

 

 

 

Jisung and Junghwan hit it off a few months after college got started, Jisung absorbing the younger into his friend group where he fit in really well. The two basically spent every weekend hanging out after they got close, sharing alot of hobbies like trading cards and music tastes. 

Jisung's friends are also the reason why Junghwan was exposed to the lgbtq+ community. 

 

Jisung thinks his friend is incredibly talented, if a little bit timid. 

 

"He really opens up when he gets comfortale. You'd be surprised how fast he can intergrate himself into conversation, and all the random and interesting facts he just has stored in his brain. Also playing games with him? Forget about trying to win. He's just too good at strategy." 

 

The two have to separate now that college has ended, but Jisung is promising to keep in touch. 

 

"You also have the numbers of all the guys, Junghwan. All you have to do is call them." 

 

 

 

 

 

Former Ckassmate - Im Yugyeong (22) - FC: Jung Chaeyeon

 

Junghwan knows more of Yugyeong than anything, which he is pretty sure that would also be true on her end, if she knew about him at all. He thankfully, remembers her favorably. She's wasn't one of the student who enjoyed teasing him, if anything, the two seemed to have a similar reserved demeanor. 

To him, she always seemed kind and compassionate. He wouldn't be against getting to know her if he actually got the chance. Bonding over being queer might be something good for them. 

He wouldn't know what to do if he actually found himself in a conversation with her, but he is choosing to remain optimistic about the others in town his age. Things might have changed alot since they were all in high school. 

Mother and Father - Mr. and Mrs. Jeong

He has a complicated relationship with his parents, though he is close with them. He has always felt that they saw him a little out of place in the family given that his siblings don't really struggle to merge into new spaces. There has always been a place for them in their hometown, while he always felt a little bit closed off by the traditional mold there. 

 

His father is eager to have him back and talk him into settling down there in town. He won't admit it but he really wants his famliy back together officially. His mother however, has been eager for her middle child to find himself for awhile, which is why she pushed so hard for him to study somewhere else. She is extremely excited though to have him back, even for a few months. 

They don't know about his delcared uality. His mother would be able to accept it no question, though his father will take a bit of convincing. He just wasn't prepared for anything of that nature and would need some time to marinate on it. 

His siblings wuold be supportive if a little apprehensive.
