PERSONALITY:

Yoonshik is a confident guy when it comes to opinions - he knows when he's right and is not afraid of saying it. But he's also his own worst critic; when he does something wrong or is mistaken, he will ascces the situation solemnly and diligintly. His ability to think with a clear head, rationality and logic help him form a plan on how to improve and get the things he want. His rationaltiy is dominant in all aspects of her life.

Despite the strictly logical approach, Yoonshik is very very messy. His train of thought may fit a math eqation, but his apartment is an absolute mess. Everywhere he is ends up dissorganized.

He has a bossy and demanding personality - he always wants others to give their entire selves into something, and won't stop until they do. It can sometimes go to the extreme; if he thinks the group doesn't sound good enough, or he isn't insync with the other members, he will nag them to stay until the small hours of the night until he thinks it's perfect. When the problem is with him and not others, he will do it by herself (when he was at schooll he would occasionaly pull all-nighters in order to practice, and end up falling asleep during class). But despite his bossy nature, he's surprisingly patient with others - he will encourage you if he sees effort and accomplishment. 

Yoonshik is also eloquent - he speaks with confidence and resolution, and he can talk for hours about nothing and you woldn't notice. Being a closed person that hates when people ask him things about sensitive topics he doesn't wish to discuss, this is how he deals with questions regarding his personal life and previous scandals. As he hates to be reminded of his past, he averts the questions extremely well to the direction he likes. If someone asks about him or Yoonmi, he will stir the conversation to the complete oposite direction, and no one will notice until after it's too late. 

He is extremely protective of himself and of Yoonmi - the result of the bad publicity he had gotten because of rumors about their relationship. He tends to shield himself and especially Yoonmi out of critics and harm - both mentally and physicaly (if he feels like Yoonmi is being threatened, he has the instinc to hug her protectively).

(He will never admit it, but Yoonshik is kind of a romantic. He wishes to grow old with Yoonmi in a little cottage, where their grandchildren will visit and play while they watch. He loves surprising his girlfriend with romantic gestures that don't fit his character, and wants to show the whole word how much his loves her. Unfortunately, he can't)

BACKGROUND:

Yoonshik's childhood was rather uneventful - he grew up in a regular middle-class family, with his mother Naeun, father Minho and older sister Hana. He attended an elementary school in Incheon, and there he joined a choir, which was initally how his love for music grew.

After watching performances by TVXQ and Super Junior, Yoonshik decided he wants to become an idol. But unfortunately his favorite entertainment company, SM, didn't think he was handsome or talanted enough to become a trainee, and he was rejected four times during his auditions for SM. Realizing he won't be able to get into SM, Yoonshik turned his attention towards the other two big companies, JYP and YG, but they too had rejected him. At last, he was accepted into a small entertaining company - TM Entertainment - whose only asset was a rising actress by the name of Park Yoonmi (f/c Kim Hyuna)

Yoonmi was rising to fame rather quickly, thanks to previous supporting roles in dramas like "You Are My Destiny" and "Style". Being of similar age (Yoonshik is two years older), the two of them bonded and grew closer naturally. Yoonmi's bright personality and sociable nature attracted Yoonshik a lot. Though their attraction to each other was quite obvious, the two of them were too busy with their carrers. Yoonshik was training hard for his debut, and Yoonmi was in the discussion of being casted in what would later become her breakout role as Jung Soo Jung in "More Charming By the Day".

Being two teenagers, it didn't take long for Yoonmi and Yoonshik to begin dating, In 2010, less then a year after Yoonshik joined TM Entertainment, the two of them were already all over each other. At fist the company wanted to conceal their relationship from the public, but paparazzi had caught them during a secret date. Then, everyone in Korea had become aware that rising star Park Yoonmi was dating some trainee name Yoonshik. And thus the ship had sailed.

As a result for his recognition as Yoonmi's boyfriend, Yoonshik's debut in 2011 was quite successful for a small company. With the song "Ma First" that peaked at 8 on the Gaon Chart, Yoonshik had established himself as the new bad boy of k-pop. Yoonmi, that convinently played the female lead in the m/v, had shown her fans a new side of her - a previously unkown y persona- had gained even more recognition, and had become Korea's Girlfriend for having the perfect qualities of a girlfriend : beautiful face, cute persona, and the ability to become y af.

Yoonshik's success was short lived. A lot of Yoonmi's fans didn't like that a pure soul like 18-year-old Yoonmi was dating a bad boy like Yoonshik. That created a tension between the couple, and that, along with their tight scedules had eventually made them break up. Then pictures of a crying Yoonmi surfaced up the net, and netizens immediately attacked Yoonshik for brutally ending his relationship with her (even though in reality the two of them agreed to break up together, and both of them were broken-hearted). Then another picture of Yoonmi was realesed by papparazi, this time of her with a bruised arm. Netizens had immediately come to the conclusion that Yoonshik was abusing the young actress, and fired attacks on him in order to boycott the rookie idol and his music. TM Entertainment and Yoonmi both released statements that the actress was hurt during filming for her new drama, and that Yoonshik and her were actually alright with each other, but fans took none of that. And so, after less than a year of being an idol, Yoonshik was forced to go on an hiatus from his career - an hiatus that lasted four years.

During this time, Yoonmi become even more critically acclaimed as an actress, ultimately scoring lead roles in dramas such as "You're the Best, Lee Soon Shin", "Reply 1994" and "The Girl Who Sees Smells", and cemented her image as "Korea's Girlfriend".  Meanwhile, Yoonshik had succomed to what he described as trainee-position again, working on his singing and dancing, while desperately trying to restore his image in the eyes of the media. He hadn't given up on his dream, though.

In 2014 Yoonshik and Yoonmi returned dating, after realizing their feelings for each other hadn't dissappeared, but this time the two were much more careful (fearful for the media's reaction to them being back together). There's tension between them because of what happened, but they try to work it out slowly. Two years later, they're still trying, but they are very happy with each other.

Secrets were never meant to stay hidden though, especially in the world of idols. Two months ago the two of them were spotted in Jeju, and the interenet broke with the news and Park Yoonmi was dating that bastard again. In a desperate attempt to finally clear Yoonshik's name, his manager tried finding some sort of variety that would take him in so he could restore his image. That's how he came across "Do or Die", and thought the format was perfect for the singer. 

Yoonshik signed up for the program with only one thing in his mind - clear his image and restore his reputation so he could debut again and date Yonmi in piece. He will do anything - lie, act innocent, caring, sociable and funny, be everything he isn't. He doesn't care about the final prize of debuting in some lame- group that won't have any future, he's here to make Korea love him again.

(Yoonshik is extremely grateful for TM and his manager, Dohan, for sticking with him despite the controvesry that surrounds him. The company hadn't dropped him even with the scandal, and his manager still believes in him and thinks he'll do great, and Yoonshik feels like he's forever in dept to them. This is why he will never leave the company, no matter what is offered to him.)

▸Bugs and spiders. He knows it's not very manly of him, but he really really hates them.
▸When he's ignored (or when he can't take the situation under control. His bossy nature comes out).

▸Papparazi. No need to explain, he has a trauma from them.
▸People claiming to know things when in fact they don't know - he has encountered plenty of people who told him they know more about his relationship with Yoonmi than he himself does, and it angers him to no end. Now, every time someone claims to know something without any base to support his claim, Yoonshik explodes.


Hobies:

▸Writing lyrics and making music - it's a relatively new hobby (when you're on a hiatus for four years you tend to have time to develop new hobbies), and he's still not that good in creating music, but he's gradually improving.

⟪ How did you find out about Do or Die? ⟫ 

Running a hand through his hair, he says, "My manager found out about it and told me. We were looking for a variety that would fit my... requierments, and when we heard about Do or Die we thought it was a very unique and interesting concept. We thought it would fit me quite well."

⟪ Why do you want to be an idol? Are you prepared for everything it entails? ⟫ 

"I am an idol already." He gives out a laugh, "Or at least I used to be. Trust me, I'm prepared for anything this industry throws at me. I've been through too much not to be." Clearing his throat, he realizes that he dances too close to a topic he doesn't wish to discuss and quickly moves on. "I wanted to be an idol ever since I was a kid. I always liked singing, and when I watched TVXQ-sunbaenim and Super Junior-sunbaenim, I fell in love with performing. I tried auditioning for SM, JYP and YG, but got rejected. It's quite funny, even after failing for more than seven times, I still hadn't given up. Guess I'm this stubborn, he. Anyway, TM Entertainment was kind enough to accept me as a trainee, which I'm extremely grateful for! Thank you for taking care of me, PD-nim!" He bows deeply and smiles sheepishly. "I have gotten rather off topic. Anyway, I'm pretty prepared for what's about to come."

⟪ Do you have any prior experience in the entertainment industry? ⟫ 

Seeing as there's no escape now, he takes a breath. "As I mentioned before, I've debuted already, back in 2011. But then a false scandal broke loose, and... and my girlfriend and I had to broke up and I was forced on a hiatus." He takes another breath. "But you already know that, don't you? Yoonmi and I had tried proving these awful rumors wrong, but rumors die hard. I hope that through this program you will get to see the real me, the real Yoonshik, and then you will be able to to get to know me. Please wait and judge me after you see this program. Judging only from the prosecutor's words without hearing the defendant is illegal, you know." He flashes a playful smile (that conceals his nervousness and anger).

⟪ Where do you feel you're strong, and where do you feel you're lacking? ⟫ 

"While I still lack in singing and dancing, I feel like I have improved a lot performance-wise. I like being on stage and I'm confident in what I do, so it transfers onto the stage quite well. I never trained in rapping, so I would guess that's my worst suit, though I'm not a rapper so I don't think it matters that much. So, yeah... rapping is worst, and if you don't count stage presence, singing is my best. I make performance-oriented music, though, so you have to count stage presence."

⟪ Why should we choose you for Do or Die? ⟫ 

Something flashes in his eyes - a hurt 19-year-old kid who was accused of rudely dumping and beating the girl he loves dearly - but it quickly fades into a look of determination. "You must be curios. Curious of who Choi Yoonshik is, the real Choi Yoonshik. Something in your math doesn't add up; he couldn't be as bad as they say, you think. There must be something wrong. And you're right. There is more. And you get to see it... if you choose me for Do or Die." He chuckles brightly and winks. "Tempting, isn't it?"
