APPEARNCE typically seen striding around donghwa with an air of confidence and an elegant aura with every hair in place and her head held high, areum is always poised and ready. her exotic features and tan tresses often lead people to believe that she's not purely korean, but you can't really blame them when areum's got large eyes and a relatively sharp nose bridge. some describe her as foxy, some describe her as ethereal, and most agree that areum is honestly just gorgeous. from the way she carries herself to the way she looks, she can easily be considered the beauty of donghwa. in fact, even if she was able to step out of korea and step foot into the 'official' scene of fashion, paris, she'd still be considered a beauty: her exotic features are glorified in kore whereas her unique mix of asian and western qualities are appreciated worldwide. taking care of herself since young, areum rarely has pimple outbreaks, nor does she have pores or moles on her face.

FASHION   areum is the walking definition of a fashionista. her beige/cream blazers, blosues, trousers, high heels and dresses are her favourite type of garments. two-thirds of her closet is filled with ted baker and burberry, and items in plain colours. she rarely dreses in prints, and hates bright colours, like orange. if she did wear the colour, it'd be a dull version of it. blouses and sweaters are her favourite clothings and she's always seen in leggings, trousers, pumps and/or heels. always on top of trends, she's able to incorporate the trends into her outfits and is always dressed to kill, no matter metaphorically or literally.

▾ the first and only thing you need to know about areum is the fact that she is not a good person. her confident aura and elegant poise does not hide a big teddy bear, sorry to disappoint. hidden underneath the vulpine layer of beauty and high-brow demeanor is the walking definition of a devil —  a devil that wears prada. the way she treats people depends on her mood. if sh's feeling alright, she's nice enough, if she's in a bad mood, steer clear of her at all costs because she will not hesitate to rip you apart over anything you do.

▾ to be honest, the best way to describe her would be high maintainance. areumis incredibly full of herself, and that is evident in the way she speaks and carries herself. the air of elegance and confidence stems from the heart and she genuinely believes that she's better than pretty much everyone she comes across. she doesn't filter her words and says what she thinks all the times, and since she looks down on everyone, it's never anything nice. born with a cutthroat desire to win, areum is a sore loser and never takes failing well. areum wants everyone to listen to her and everything to go her way, flipping her lid when they don't and screams her head off at anyone in her path, taking out her emotions on innocent people and ceramic cups. she is exactly the type of girls you see in music videos and dramas that reject the nice main lead to get married with a richer person, letting guilt flit over their face at their wedding when they see the person they rejected. the only thing different is that areum would not feel guilty over "small incidents like this". excessively concerned with physical comforts or the acquisition ofwealth and material possessions, areum splurges on luxuries and looks down on people poorer than her. the world revolves around her in her perspective and the things she does are mostly for her benefit. she doesn't care if her actions harm other people, her eyes are only set on her comfort and success. of course, she has soft spots for gyeoul and the rest of the squad, but if faced with fighting with them or fighting against them for money and power in contenue, she'd let some remorse flit over her face before readily attacking her friends.

▾ but of course, areum is not all malice. though she judges lots of people and holds grudges, she really does cherish some of the people she knows - namely gyeoul, nadiya, the squad, and her parents. granted, she's still going to act like a and has no qualms with insulting them, but if she sees that they really get hurt or are in dire situations, she'd reluctantly say sorry and help. she'd still be self indulgent but there's a spark in her eyes when she's around those she likes, and the iron lady is noticeably softer. it's that side of her that makes the squad stay with her through thick and thin though sometimes they'd very much like to rip her apart.

 

▾ ma areum was dumped in front of the local clinic in donghwa on a chilly february day. when the nurse came and saw the two weeks old baby on the doorstep, she'd cradled the baby into her arms and read the little note stating the girl's name and date of birth. you might expect it to be easy for people to guess who areum's parents were, considering that donghwa was tiny and word travelled fast, but after asking around the nurse realized that no resident had been pregnant when areum was conceived. she settled on the conclusion that the bunch of young teenagers that had spent months in the forest of donghwa on an 'extended road trip' to be the parents as the bunch of teens were gone the day she found areum.

▾ the nurse, kwon aeri discussed with her husband nam minho, the doctor of the clinic, and they decided to keep the baby and raise it on their own. out of respect they resgistered her under her birth name, feigning excuses when toddler areum asked why her family name was different. aeri and minho were very loving parents and, to put it bluntly, spoiled areum. their treatment is probably one of the main reasons why areum is now incrediby full of herself. as pretty much the only medical staff in donghwa, areum's family was pretty rich ( at least, according to donghwa standards ) and she pretty much was raised in the laps of luxuries. out of the six, her background would probably be the least tear enducing. and because she's left a simple life without too many worries, she fails to empathise with others and tends to be extremely insensitive. she's never been exposed to the cruelty and doesn't understand why the others get so sad when they're reminded of their background.

▾ in fact, areum is still the luckiest person out of the six. with her gorgeous appearance, she's been modelling since young. at five she appeared ont the billboard welcoming people to donghwa, and with her selcas on the internet she's been contacted by agencies to sign on. aruem loves the attention and the praises so she's been signed to a local agency and has been modelling gwangju for small businesses and such. she can't wait to get out of donghwa ( hades: oh, yes, I hated the underworld as well. ) and get her name out there. she knows she's going to take over the modelling industry, and her goals are walking on a catwalk in paris. she's vowed to never let anyone stop her. ( hades: that's the spirit! reminds me of when I wanted to take over mount olympus. areum: you failed. I won't. )

▾ one thing to note is that areum has always showed signs of being a malevolent person ( probably hades meddling ), and her parents being extra nice plus her friends letting her be just let this situation grow out of her control.

 

RLATNSHPS 

ADOPTIVE PARENT RELATION ▾ 
kwon aeri (53); nurse; amiable, generous, exuberant; 7;  aeri is to blame for areum's high maintainance. aeri's feelings for areum stemmed from pity, but after caring for the toddler with twinkling eyes and tinkling laughter, aeri really began to care for areum genuinely, and couldn't help but let her do whatever she wanted and give her whatever she asked for. they used to be pretty close and were best friends, but now areum finds her bubbly presence to be slightly annoying. normally she'd have completely shut such a person out of her life, but her respect and gratitude for aeri keeps her from yelling at her adoptive mother. she loves aeri, and the latter is probably the only one she wouldn't backstab, as well as the only one who she'd actually worry for before she does something.
​nam minho (52); doctor; stoic, captious, inarticulate; 5;  minho disapproves of how his wife treats their daughter, but every time he objects aeri talks incredibly loudly to cover up his voice and continues to pamper aeri. he's honestly the first one to keep areum in check and tell her when she's crossed the line. because of that, areum dislikes him at times, but the times when minho is being nice, areum finds him alright. same with aeri, they used to be close, with minho looking forward to see toddler areum at home every night, but nowadays they've grown apart because of the constant fights.

THE #SQUAD ▾ 
​lim gyeoul [_haekyung] ; 10;  it is a wonder why gyeoul has put up with areum for so many years. meeting when both were children as they were next door neighbours, they were pretty much forced to be playmates by their parents. the reluctant playmates, however, really became friends. areum wasn't as self indulgent then, but she already had bossy tendencies, and to her delight gyeoul had no qualms with following her words. gyeoul is already used to her frequent jabs and isn't even stung anymore, while areum tries to be nicer around gyeoul. even till now, their relationship is mostly areum talking and gyeoul nodding along. some find their friendship to be pretty toxic, as areum could harm her anytime, but gyeoul knows that areum tries to be benevolent and doesn't care what other people think, something areum is grateful for. gyeoul is the second person areum cares most for and she would probably feel bad if she saw gyeoul's heartbroken look if areum really decides to fight against her friends.
the rest: areum is, probably to your surprise, not the leader of the bunch. around the squad, her insults are toned down but she still scoffs and turns up her nose at them. they've been with her throughout her disastrous progression in personality, and are pretty much immune to her mean words and some of them even argue back and tell her to shut up. areum is offended, but since she actually sees them as friends and not pawns she could utilise, she shuts up. she considers herself the leader of the group, but no one else sees her to be.

 

▾ areum walks, stands, and sits with her shoulds back and her head held high, sometimes too high. when she walks, her hands move swiftly and gracefully by her side; when she stands , she puts her left hand on her right and places them in front of her crotch; when she sits she crosses her legs and places her hands on her legs.
▾ areum has never used text language in her life. never. she finds it improper and has vowed to never use it. in the squad's group chat, she's the one who seems oddly formal with her capitalizations, punctuation and perfect grammar. but she's a fast typer at 83 wpm, so she's still able to argue over text, seeming more convincing because of her way of typing.

▾ areum is usually seen with a stoic expression on her face, her lips pressed into a line and her eyes seemingly blank. but when someone talks to her, she won't jolt, nor would her eyes widen. she'd just turn her head and lift her eyes to stare at the person. quite terrifying sometimes.
▾ areum has extraordinarily strong ankles- or legs, in general, from walking in too many heels. her stamina isn't good, but she rarely gets cramps. if the group has to walk for miles, she'll get tired first, but she never gets cramps.
