Am i a good writer?
Writing, like any art form, is subjective and how good an author is perhaps a little less than half technicality and mostly how they connect with their readers. I sometimes wonder if I'm an okay writer, like, I know I'm not exactly the best but then I think do people who subscribe actually read my stuff and like it? It's hard to do when not a lot of people comment because you equate comments with how good you are and yeah, it gets taxing after a certain point. Then there's things like, you read a story that is doing amazingly well and you compare your style to theirs and you start to wonder if you write like that, maybe an ounce like that, you'll get more recognition. I'm often envious of stories like that. And, I don't want to say it follows a formula, but it kind of does. The same plots and situations appear a lot and you can tell what people like the most or tend to favour. And then I think I'd want a piece of that, that popularity so to speak, but then I'm lost in the plot and it's frustrating because I really hate highschool aus and stories about wolves or vampires. I mean, those are amazing! There are a lot that are really good and I love to read them but at the same time I don't want to write something that is overly used. I used to write a lot of highschool aus, not gonna lie, but that was mostly when I was in highschool still and half of the reason why I try to avoid that now is because highschool was an uphill battle for me. I don't like thinking about it anymore. Vampires are overly used though in the supernatural section. Last night, I was mulling over a supernatural story and what kind of creature I should focus it on and vampires would the easiest. Werewolves the next one. I didn't want to write a story though just because it was a popular trope on here. I mean, at some point artists realize everything's been done before and it really has, so that's when you have to succumb to it and just spin it as your own. That one little extra thing, or maybe that one extra of a paintbrush. Maybe the key to just being successful is enjoy what you're doing, do it well, and you'll naturally add your own zest to it. Popular or not you shouldn't do something just to pander to an audience.
tldr; I'm tired of cliches and maybe a little bitter that they get so much attention but writing is subjective so do what you want as long as you enjoy it.
