'Subscribers Only' Stories.

Why are so many stories on here subscribers only? I really don't get it. Why are people so obsessed with getting subscribers now? If you really enjoy writing, how many subscribers you have shouldn't really matter. And why do people feel the need to force others to subscribe if they want to read their stories? People used not not care as much about subscribers, but now,it seems like that's all they care about. I understand wanting your story to be noticed and get read, but I just don't understand why you feel the need to give people no choice but to subscribe.

I'm not into the subscribers only tag either.
I've only Trigger Warned 1 fic, and it automatically makes it subscribers only.
This is necessary because of sensitive topics in that fic of mine.
It kind of , because I get the notification of a subscriber and when I check its no longer there.
It's kind of disappointing to be honest.

For other readers I think 'Subscribers Only' is more of a security thing. Like, having better control on who's viewing your fic and whatnot. :)

I know that it becomes frustrating to have 5000+ views on your story with 1000+ views on each chapter with like two subscribers. It can cause an author's motivation to die down as well as their confidence.

I've seen stories that used to be free for viewing, but after having a history of being plagiarized, they put it in subs-only. Others, I don't know the reason. If I feel like the story isn't for me, I just click unsubscribe. I'm just thankful that subscribing doesn't cost real money so subscribing is no big deal really. Subscribe if you like. Unsubscribe if it turns out you don't like it. It's very simple.

Some say it protects from plagiarism (idk how that should work), others may be attention . I have a reason for those stories of mine that are Subs Only that is neither of the two but I mean ... I guess that's how it is.

I don't know either. But it depends on their original intention in putting a story to subs-only. Because everyone has their own reason why they did that, be it they want to get featured/popular or they want to elude plagiarism or maybe the story has a trigger warning/sensitive topic discussed.

people do it for different reasons, I don't think it's all abour gaining subscribers. I know a lot of people do it to protect their stories from plagerism

I get appalled by putting a story to a subs-only, but i think its a way for the authors to be featured. Plus, its kind of a way to know who's seeing the stories you put up in case of plagiarism.. Or stuff, narrowing down the possible culprit.

well, if you don't understand why people choose to use the featured provided by the site...i suggest not to jump into conclusion or assume n judge them...just saying :) when we have choices, we make our choices, i don't see why making choices should be something to be judged by other parties. maybe it's a better question to be directed to the site maker that provided that option, as to why it's created as an option. that would be more reasonable...sorry for blogwalking and dropping in.
