background. born as the youngest in a family of 7, with 4 brothers, nobody really took jihye for anything. expectations to her were "get married, have babies, take care of them" - jihye can't stand the traditional look on women she was raised with and she's far better than any of her brothers. her parents aren't proud of her though.
when she was 5 her mother got pregnant again. the 5th son and 6tth child died a few days after birth though and her parents sort-of forgot the rest of them because of the sorrow. though jihye's youngest brother was 10 at that time so jihye was the only one of the children who suffered from their parents' neglect.
jihye was bullied in elementary and middle school for liking science. the only thing it served was her growing quite determined in proving everyone wrong.
hanging out with boys rather than girls throughout high school ended up with troubles as she found herself smoking and drinking underage. she still managed to be on top in science classes (languages and arts and stuff didn't really interest her) and she got into a few fights as well. jihye doesn't think of her late teenage-years as something bad.
college times was more studying than high school but she never let go of her smoking habits. her friends was still mainly males and jihye decided to call herself jia instead of jihye. she graduated college with the best scores in her class and got job shortly afterwards at seoul national university to finish her phd.
lifestyle. jihye works at seoul national university in their research department where she plays around with her neuroscience and whatever is going on. some of her co-workers have asked her whether or not she wants to teach but she scoffs at that.

jihye lives in a 2 bedroom apartment in seoul and she's fairly well-off. not rich, but ... she's got money. she's not there often though but heck, who cares?

personality. jihye is one ambitios woman and her strong-willed personality is set on the prize in the end. her ambitions is what drives her forward and her strong-will is what makes sure she reaches every goal she has ever had in her life. the two go very hand in hand but jihye's life is pretty centered around her job. she could achieve anything she wanted though, whatever it may be, but right now, the only thing she wants to do is to prove to the world that she's as smart as her male counterparts and that a woman doesn't /need/ a man to survive.
one of the more charming traits of her is her articulate personality and if you don't trigger her coarse vocabulary you'll have yourself a very capable interlocutor. jihye has lured quite a few of her male co-workes into doing her bidding because of this but she appreciates it. being a woman and being able to converse is awfully useful. she's also very logical and more often than not will hold logics over feelings. she rationalizes a lot and usually gets pretty solid advice through her rationalization and her logical mind helps a lot so that she isn't caught in something that could be unfavorable to her.
But jihye isn't only that and her ego-centric personality makes her quite the mouthful for someone who might not know her. it's not that she hates other people, she just has too much focus on herself and her own path to care much about others. That said, she doesn't have many morals when it comes to getting what she wants. she's not going to murder or bend the law (at least not much) but she isn't going to wait in line for you to take what's yours if she wants it too. it might be quite annoying and she may have created a few enemies within her work because - what jihye wants, jihye gets - no matter the means.
being around a lot of men throughout her entire childhood and youth have given her ... a coarse language. she's not afraid of cursewords and she's not afraid to use them either. in fact, she may talk worse than many men if she gets really mad. having her spew out is not uncommon and some may say she's just plain rude. it might be true. jihye is also very secretive and private. she isn't going to let you in because she's been on her own all her life. she can handle stuff herself, so naturally, she's not going to use you - thus leaving you out of all her secrets. again with the ego-centric strong-willed woman.
