background : born in america, ryusoo had a happy childhood. his mother and father owned their own renovation business - remodeling and redecorating private homes as well as large corporate business buildings. when ryusoo was 5 and his older sister ryuri was 8, his parents had an oportunity to expand their business - the only catch was that they'd have to relocate to south korea. surprisingly, both ryusoo and ryuri were happy and excited about moving and the transistion went off seemlessly. mrs. song thought after school music lessons would be a good way for the kids to pick up korean quicker and also a good opportunity for personal growth. and when she was told that both her children possessed voices that could span both heaven and earth, she was more than happy to pay for private, vocal lessons - so long as her kids wanted them, of course.

because both of their parents worked so much, ryusoo and ryuri were a little spoiled in the sense that they didn't have to work too much to get what they wanted and could act like brats and not get repremaned as much as other kids. this resulted in both song children having fire tongues, often being snippy or rude without realizing it. as they grew older, their attitudes were put in place but still manage to sneak out from time to time.

jump to may 2012, just after ryusoo started his last year of middle school (based off the korean school system) he decided to take a chance and audition for superstar k4, the popular idol competition show on tv. he ended up passing the primary audition and went on to finish in the top 10. after getting voted off the show, two of the judges for that season, lee seung-chul and psy, approached him and offered him a spot as a trainee at each of their respected entertainment companies (cj e&m and yg). although psy was from the more well known label, lee seung-chul was more of rock singer and ryusoo liked rock music more so than pop (not to mention was a fan of lee seung-chul) so he decided to go with cj e&m and started training there in early 2013, the same time he started high school. (see trainee life section for more details) two years later, he left cj e&m and auditioned for c jes at one of their open auditions and almost immediately got picked up and put in their line up for skoolboi.

he enjoys doing aegyo and will do it obssessively if he thinks it'll help him get what he wants.

he enjoys pulling pranks on s for fanservice both on and off the stage (like how sehun pulls up shirts and makes the other members hug and kiss, etc).

he prefers the convenience of instant food (primarily because he can't cook for like he's a clueless bumbling mess in the kitchen who needs supervision for making a bowl of cereal its that bad...)
he looks forward to when he'll be old enough to drink since he's convinced he's inherited the heavyweight abilitie all the men on his father's side of the family are famous for (and because he wants to drink with woojin hyung and get him drunk).
he doesn't mind skinship but doesn't usually initiate it either - unless its for fan service, then he'll go all out.
woojin is the only one in the group he consistently call's 'hyung' and speaks to formally/actually cares for - all the other hyungs he'll be rude/a brat/speak informally to.

song "roger" gi seok : father : 53 : architect : ryusoo and his dad are very close despite how much he actually works now and all while ryusoo and his sister were growing up. giseok is a real family man and he always made time for them. he's the one who got ryusoo into k-rock and the two of them share of a love of it.

song "lily" soo mi : mother : 49 : interior designer : soomi has always been ryusoo's and ryuri's number one fan in all that they do, despite having to work a  lot due to her and her husband's successful renovation/construction business that they own and run together. originally she started sending the kids to music lessons after school just so they'd have something fun to do but became fully invested in their training after she learned they were both talented and passionate about it.

song "april" ryu ri : older sister : 22 : lil' miss lead vocal : ryusoo and ryuri have the tipical older sister-little brother relationship, full of petty arguments and lots of nagging and exhasperated sighs and cheek pinches. but at the end of the day, they're both happy they have the other to rely on and get support from.

bae yunhyuk : 'i can't believe you're hyung' hyung : 19 : skoolboi triple threat : ryusoo really refuses to believe that this 4d sproutling is older than him, but then he remembers he wouldn't be the maknae if he was and so shuts up about it after a while (and an exhasperated sigh and whine).
han woojin : favorite hyung : 23 : skoolboi dance/lead vocal : ryusoo's favorite hyung is woojin, hands down. ryusoo loves messing with him because it's just so easy (and so fun). ryusoo will often hide woojin's t-ara mp3 just for s and giggles (but he'll always return it after woojin's spent a good half hour whining and pouting so cutely). but he'll also be super sweet to woojin hyung in return, always complimenting him whenever he can, choosing him as the best looking member, saying he's the most thoughtful one, storng, manly, etc. mainly becuase he loves cutie embarassed woojin, but also truly because  he honestly does feel that way about woojin hyung. they got partnered together for fan service and ryusoo loves using his height to his adantage and establishing himself as the 'dominate' one in their relationship. on stage and at fan meets especially, he likes to put himself and woojin in suggestive situations for the fans to scream over. woojin is the only one ryusoo takes selcas with because he thinks they look good together.
barrett chang : old best friend : 18 : high school student : ryan and barrett were like, super best friends back in the states when they were both 5. when the songs moved away to korea, ryan and barrett started writting each other letters to stay in touch. as they grew up and technology progressed, letteres became emails became texting became skyping. after superstar k and ryusoo became a trainee, him and barrett drifted apart a bit and don't talk as often any more, but ryusoo often refrences him whenever mcs ask him about his earlier childhood in america.

kim jae joong : mentor : 30 : jyj main vocal : having idolized jaejoong long before coming to c jes, it took ryusoo a good month or two of personal training before his inner fan boy calmed down and he was able to treat jaejoong like a normal human being. jaejoong helped him a lot with range and vibrato control and helped ryusoo unlock his true vocal talents. ryusoo will always say his talent now is at least half all jaejoong's doing.
lil' miss : 'the big sisters i never asked for' : noonas : cjes girl group : to ryusoo, all the lil' miss members are like his noona ryuri multipled times 5. he got new older sisters to nag and baby him about this and that. but all the girls honestly love ryusoo and loving fawning over him - and ryusoo kinda secretly loves it too.

TRAINEE life : joining cj e&m after being a popular contestant on superstar k4, ryusoo became a trainee the same time he started highschool. although, because of this, he didn't get much attention or training since the company wanted him to focus on school and they didn't have any groups or roles in the works that ryusoo's voice could fit into. so after two years of idleness at cj e&m, ryusoo left the company and auditioned for c jes since one of his favorite groups, jyj, was under their music label. seeing his obvious talent, cjes snatched him up and put him in the line up for skoolboi and ryusoo spent the next year ( his last year of high school) getting personally trained by jyj member kim jae joong.
