╳ rice soup - a playful nickname invented by his older sister, it came about by her making a combination of his korean name 'ryusoo' and his english name 'ryan' which was 'ry-soo' which (when said in the sing-song way his sister says it) sounds like 'rice-soo' which progressed into 'rice-soup'. ironically, one of his favorite foods is nurungji (scorched rice soup).

╳ 발라수 - "balladsoo", a combination of the word "balladdeu" and his name "ryusoo", an endearing nickname eventally created and used by the fans (espeically in tumblr hashtags) since his voice is so deep and y and perfectly suited for ballads

LANGUAGE SPOKEN:

╳ english - first language, semi-fluent, heavy korean accent when speaking but only slight korean accent when singing, was the first and only language he spoke/read/wrote up until the age of 5 when his family moved to korea and he switched completely over to korean. he had to relearn it in middle and high school he never got his fluency completely back.

╳ korean - second language, fluent, gyeongsang/busan dialect, learned from age 5 onward, refers to it as his native language even though it wasn't his first simply because he's more proficient in it

PERSONALITY:

ryusoo is the epitome of 'the evil maknae'. truthfully, he is a giant brat. always playing pranks or being sassy or speaking informally with the his hyungs. while he is honest about how he feels about things, he also has the habit of speaking before thinking whick can get him into trouble some times. he's very go with the flow but at the same time he's hardworking and reliable when it comes to gettting things done or completing tasks or missions he's been given. he's sensitive, not in the sense that he gets hurt or offened easily, but rather that everything will affect him to some degree - his emotins are very strong and fuel much of what ryusoo does (and much of what comes out of his mouth, which is why jyp can always rely on him to give good interviews). if something doesn't interest him he'll find something else to occupy himself with (i.e. if a hyung is talking about something boring, he'll find a pen to twril in his hands or start messing with whoever is next to him to entertain himself). when things upset him, he can get a little fussy and he'll start to whine but he also gets over things quickly so he won't be upset for long.

BACKGROUND:

born in america, ryusoo had a happy childhood. his mother and father owned their own renovation business - remodeling and redecorating private homes as well as large corporate office buildings. when ryusoo was 5 and his older sister ryuri was 8, his parents had an opportunity to expand their business - the only catch was that they'd have to relocate to south korea. surprisingly, both ryusoo and ryuri were happy and excited about moving and the transition went off seamlessly. mrs. song thought after school music lessons would be a good way for the kids to pick up korean quicker and also a good opportunity for personal growth. and when she was told that both her children possessed voices that could span both heaven and earth, she was more than happy to pay for private vocal lessons - so long as her kids wanted them, of course.

because both of their parents worked so much, ryusoo and ryuri were a little spoiled in the sense that they didn't have to work too much to get what they wanted and could act like brats and not get reprimanded as much as other kids. this resulted in both song children having fire tongues, often being snippy or rude without realizing it. as they grew older, their attitudes were put in place but still manage to sneak out from time to time.

jump to may 2013, just after ryusoo started his last year of middle school (based off the korean school system) he decided to take a chance and audition for superstar k4, the popular idol competition show on tv. he ended up passing the primary audition and went on to finish in the top 10. after getting voted off the show, two of the judges for that season, lee seung-chul and psy, approached him and offered him a spot as a trainee at each of their respected entertainment companies (cj e&m and yg). although psy was from the more well known label, lee seung-chul was more of rock singer and ryusoo liked rock music more so than pop (not to mention was a fan of lee seung-chul) so he decided to go with cj e&m and started training there in early 2014, the same time he started high school. although, because of this, he didn't get much attention or training since the company wanted him to focus on school and they didn't have any groups or roles in the works that ryusoo's voice could fit into. so after two years of idleness at cj e&m, ryusoo left the company and auditioned for jyp at one of their open auditions and almost immediately got picked up and put in their line up for sixteen 2.

TRIVIA:

╳ LIKES : eating (the other trainees joke that ryusoo would eat the world if you let him because he's never once said "ah~ i'm so full."), bubble tea, lavender (smell and color), maneki-nekos (he has a small collection of them), rings and bracelets, singing and karaoke, the beach, staying up late, sleeping in, performing, nurungji, playng clash of clans on his phone, playing around with the other trainees
╳ DISLIKES : cooking, waking up early, when his voice cracks while talking or singing, when there's not enough food, that he can't play guitar or piano, when the other trainees hog the bathroom or the tv remote, when none of the others listen to him, when he gets scolded for speaking without thinking first, taking caffeine pills
╳ HABITS : speaking without thinking first, singing along to songs while his headphones are in and not realizing that he's singing along because he has the volume up so loud, always falls asleep inside cars even if he isn't tired at all, since most of the other trainees are shorter than him he always likes to pull them to sit in his lap (specifically hyukbin hyung)
╳ his dad gave him his love of korean rock music, his favorite groups include seo taiji, nell, cherry filter, norazo, f.t. island, and cnblue.
╳ he espeically looks up to norazo's lee hyuk as a vocal role model, as well as kim jaejoong.
╳ he enjoys doing aegyo and will do it obsessively if he thinks it'll help him get what he wants.
╳ he enjoys pulling pranks on the others for fanservice both on and off camera (like how sehun pulls up shirts and makes the other members hug and kiss, etc). he enjoys pranking hyukbin and joohyuk the best.
╳ he prefers the convenience of instant food (primarily because he can't cook for like he's a clueless bumbling mess in the kitchen who needs supervision for making a bowl of cereal its that bad)

how long have you been under jyp Entertainment And How was your trainee life?:

✩ He readjusts his weight on the stool he's sitting on as he speaks. "Ah, I joined last year [2016] so not too long. But before that I was training at CJ E&M for two years, and I was a contestant on Superstar K before that. I've learned a lot about performing and mastering my voice [during that time]." He gives another small nod and lowers the mic slightly.

Why should we pick you for sixteen 2?:

✩ "Ah, the real question is why shouldn't you pick me." He replys smoothly before his mouth curls into a devious smile and he's laughing at his own line along with the interviewer and the recording staff.

╳ Dancing isn't Ryusoo's forte by any means but he's not a complete lost case - show him moves and he can pick them up at a decent rate. And while he can be y, he prefers to make people laugh at how goofy he is.
