APPEARANCE If you ask Toby himself, he'd say genetics played a stupid joke on him, picking the worst traits he could get from the German - Korean mixture his parents made up. He's a giant, that's true, but he's also not as slender as most Koreans and has stronger body features. That's how he ends up troubled looking for clothes in Seoul because of his very uncommon meassures. He also obtained his mother's thick asian hair but at the same time his father's natural curls which result in his hair being a complete mess if he doesn't style them. Most of the time in the morning he spends in front of the mirror, styling his hair. Toby does not have any piercings or tattoos but he tends to change his haircolor and style often.  

STYLE There's no real style Toby is prefering when it comes to clothes. He dresses up in everything he finds good looking on him, casual, hip - hop, leather jackets, jeans jackets, formal and much more. It just needs to be fresh clothes, he really can't stand wearing clothes more than just one time because he's very sensitive when it comes to smells. He also would never leave the house looking shabby. NEVER. He rather skips some hours of sleep to style instead of leaving the house looking like a hobo.

PERSONALITY

HUMAN EGOISM MADE ME STRONG. There are two ways of how mixed ethnicity children can grow up. They can grow up in a loving environment with friendly people around you to support and accept you or they grow up in the complete opposite. Unfortunately Toby belonged to later. Since his mother is the typical Korean tiger mom who wants her child to surpass all the others, she sent him to several extracurricular activities such as piano lessons, violin lessons, taekwondo classes, math extra classes, language classes and so forth. Back then in Germany Toby had to visit a private school in which the students seperated in different groups. The cool kids, the average kids, the studious ones, the emos and the outsiders. He ended up with the studious kids whose only goal was to be better than the others. To do so they even tricked their own friends, snitched on them and worse. That's how Toby developed a very bad, competetive and unfair attitude which is all working to benefit him.

DON'T BOTHER ME. I'M JUST PRETENDING TO LIKE YOU. On the outside Toby is looking like a cheerful and playful fellow who loves to hang out with the others and have fun. But don't get his acting wrong, he's not. In front of the cameras and the superiors from TS Entertainment he's displaying all of his acting skills to pretend to be the most loveable derp on earth. He's joking and making a fool of himself in front of his fans, so they love him all the more, and on stage he can be the most caring dongsaeng for the elder members... just beware once nobody is around anymore to judge him and have a bad impact on his career. Toby is a loner and he detests being paired up with a bunch of guys he doesn't even like. So once everyone is gone, he'd turn mute immediately, ignoring the others and focusing on himself and his work. He doesn't care about how the others feel about him, but he also doesn't show them openly. He's not stupid after all and doesn't want the others to stand in his way because they're growing a grudge against him. Toby rather leaves them wondering about him, making them think that he's a very calm and lost in thought person in reality, maybe even shy. The SID members also often don't get if he's making fun of them or just trying to tell a joke when he's speaking to them. Eloquent as he is, he knows very well how to express his thoughts in a way that can be interpreted variedly. He's confusing the boys enough to make them distance themselves from him, being cautious about conversating with Toby as they're not sure if he's trying to insult them or they're just misinterpreting and overreacting.

EACH FOR HIMSELF. So what we know about Toby until now is that he's pretty much...a jerk. Yeah, he's that meanie everyone needs their lives. Or better said who's just there and you can't avoid it. So what can you do to not end up in trouble because of that person? Yes, you can probably ignore him. But here's the catch: What do you do, if you don't know that person is actually evil? Of course, you could even then just ignore him. Yet, we have to consider that the poor SID members have to get along somehow. Getting involved into group activities, Toby is always around the others and because they don't know about his mischievous motives, most of them don't sense what he's up to. Wanting to be the center of attention when it comes to solo activities and success, Toby is the kind of person to set up traps to sabotage his co-members solo activity opportunities by involving them into prohibited actions by the entertainment and immediately run to the manager to blow the whistle on them. He would never go as far to cause damage to the group itself, though. He just ambushes individuals to raise his own success. Life is a competition, no matter where or who you are.

 

EVERYBODY'S GOT A WEAK POINT. Being evil doesn't make Toby a monster or alien, he's still a human being and what do human beings have? Right, weaknesses. Besides drinking a cup of black (as his soul) tea while playing Rachmaninoff's Prelude op.23 no.5 in G-min to relax, how does our lovely Toby washes off some of the dirt he covers his fingers with? Pink plushies? Not really. A nice massage? Maybe from the right person. But no, what turns Toby into a little 5 - year old boy are two things: First, motorbikes. Toby is going crazy for them. He collects masses of motorbike magazines and whenever he sees a nice one, he takes selfies with it. His biggest wish is an own motorbike collection. Just by the glimmering sparkles in his eyes when he talks about the heavy machines, you know that you found his weak point No 1. The No 2 are animes and mangas. Yes...he's a bit of a nerd. Just a bit. Well, besides that what drives him mad to the extent that he can't concentrate anymore: Perfectionist Tobias Liebenthal hates dirt and chaos. Really. It's his nightmare. And he especially hates getting in contact with dirt and dirty laundry of others. That's the point when he throws one tantrum after another once his pain threshold is surpassed.

 

GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS - THEY LOVE ME. The bad boy always wins the girl. That's what they say, but it's a lie. Girls mostly (not always but often) like loveable guys who make them laugh and care for them. Nobody wants to date an - except for if you're an emotional masochist. So what can Toby do to not die all alone? If there is one human longing Toby can't turn off, then it's the desire for females. He loves the embrace of a girl, the nice scent of them and their soft skin and lips. Plus, Toby desires beauty. He's got a list of female idols he wants to date and after SID debuts, he plans on working off that list. To do so, he's switching into various roles, depending on the girl, to win her heart. BACKGROUND

THE GOLDEN CAGE. Born as the child of a hard-working Samsung executive manager who was always out to bring in some money and a typical Korean mom who wanted to show of her son the the big, big world, Toby was raised like a slave, being signed into piano and violin lessons around the age of 3. He was also tutored at home early and had to attend taekwondoo classes and other stuff, his mother compensating her loneliness caused by her husband's steady absence with creating a son any woman could just dream of. She never considered how Toby himself was suffering under the constant pressure and how his own character was spoiled by her greediness for success and respect from others. From early age instead of making friends, Toby was too focused and busy on following his mother's wishes, step by step turning into an emotionless marionette in front of her, trying to act strong to not get scolded because he was crying. "Crying is for weak people, Taekyung!", "You don't appreciate what your mother is doing for you! You can be lucky to get this kind of education! This is rare! This is precious!" His mother's words are still haunting him, Toby could never forget them. Years passed and when Toby turned 12 won one piano or violin competition after another, his mother step by step distanced herself from him all of a sudden. Her son had become a prodigy but in exchange he had turned off all of his feelings and became a complete marionette. She figured it when she hugged her son once and he didn't react at all, neither physical nor psychical. Shocked of this result of her longstanding work, she called him a 'monster' which completely destroyed the relationship between the two. The sudden shock about being called a monster by the person he had always wanted to acknowledge him was hurting the young boy so much that until now he's still suffering from the scar of his mother's cruelity. That's also how is longing for females developed. Receiving their love is some kind of self-affirmation.

 

I'M NOT HARDCORE, I'M A GANGSTER. After feeling dumped by his own mother, Toby decided to change his life - which was harder than expected. Being one of those geeks who couldn't interact with other individuals, he didn't know where to start changing his life and ended up in various groups of his school. He first got to know the outsiders, disliking them to start with. They had no perspective of life, they didn't care for education... Toby didn't know how to connect with them. After that he tried to assimilate with the emos who more or less had some kind of psychological depth in what they did but again, Toby had troubles in relating to what they were doing as he strongly refused cutting and couldn't find any enjoyment in hardcore music, screamo or emocore. Losing all his hope, he ended up browsing through the internet and finding Germany's famous rapper reviewer 'juliensblog' on YouTube. Back then Julien was one of those well - educated critics whose kind of humor Toby found entertaining and to who he started to develop a strong interest. Thanks to the YouTuber Toby got into the German rapping scene and found his personal heroes Alligatoah and Kollegah. For the first time in his life Toby found friends who shared the same interest as him.

 

THIS COULD BE THE START OF SOMETHING NEW. After a few years of happiness, the Liebenthals had to change their whole life as Toby's father was shifted to Seoul, South Korea and the family had to move. Toby was extremely upset about it and refused to go with them but he had to with no choice left as both of his parents forced him to accompany them. In Korea itself Toby had big difficulties to adapt the Korean lifestyle. The language was no problem but he missed Germany a lot, wanting to go back everyday. He didn't like K-Pop, he didn't like his school, he didn't even like his schoolmates whereas they weren't Koreans as he was attending an international school. He didn't talk to anyone for almost 6 months until he found new sense in life when he gathered his courage and opened up for Korean hip - hop, finding new heroes in Korean rappers Illinit and Outsider. Even though Toby's parents still made him attend tutor classes and other activities, he started teaching himself rapping and when he turned 16 he even tried his luck on Hongdae's playground, a place where lots of young musicians, rappers and dancers gather to perform. As he developed a pretty remarkable talent in freestyle rapping, he was scouted in the streets during a rap battle with one of the other guys at the playground.

 

DON'T COMPARE US!!! No matter if it was just to anger his parents or for whatever reason, Toby decided to sign under TS, pursuing his slowly upcoming dream of being a rapper and songwriter to express all of his thoughts which were bothering him. He expected to become a solo artist but instead was put into a group with other males, which angered him a lot. He nevertheless just swallowed it, hoping that he would at least stand out from the others as a half-german. His hopes were bursted though when another half - german was put into the same group and the two boys were constantly paired up together and compared. It was driving him mad and Toby hated the other boy to death and they ended up in an endless competition with each other. Funny thing is, that they're always arguing about rappers in German, bashing on the other one's favorites. The more they fight, the more they get to know each other and Toby never opened up to anyone else like to that guy because he was upsetting him enough to make him fight with him. It's some kind of very weird hate-love.

PERSONALITY  Euijin is a straight forward person who sees through Toby almost immediately after she notices that he's approaching her co-member Dana. She can't believe how her friend can fall so easily for someone as fake as Toby and gets pretty angry at him. Nevertheless he manages to pick Dana up and keeps her as some kind of substitute girlfriend. Another day Euijin catches him with another girl backstage at an event and immediately scolds him for cheating. He acts as if she was some crazy fangirl who has a crush on him herself, which drives her even more mad. She declares him her No 1 priority enemy. As you see Euijin likes honest and nice people... she's a bit rough and protective when it comes to her friends being harmed but usually she's a lively and bright person. Basically what Toby is portraying on stage. That's why she hates him all the more.

RELATIONSHIP Enemies

FIRST MEETING They meet the first time when SID has their official first stage and Euijin witnesses how Dana and Toby are exchanging phone numbers. 

INTERACTIONS/ SCENE REQUESTS As Euijin is constantly trying to pick a fight openly with Toby but he simply ignores her because he doesn't want to risk his image because of a stupid girl, she'll try to meet him at the SID dormitory.
