 →  daniela is a good person—really, she is. or at least, she tries to be. but in reality, she is very easily annoyed, but still able to cover it up in front of most people. however, before her close friends and family, she explodes, pouring out all of her complaints to them. luckily, her close friends, like yujin and yubin, are willing to take that burden. the thing that bothers daniela the most is lying, which, unfortunately, is a major part of the korean music industry, especially for idols. so, she tries to tell the truth as much as possible, especially after her debut. the one thing is that she will not tell harsh lies to other people; that's what the ranting is for. instead, she will bend the truth, but never enough that she feels like she isn't telling the truth.

having to step in for her mother when she couldn't think straight, daniela has had to act like an adult for a long time. at first, she didn't like it, but after going through it for so long, she has grown to appreciate the skills her role in the family have given her. for one, she has become very good at taking care of people, and helping them out in any way she can. she always tries to find a way to fix things, and in that sense, has become good at thinking on her feet. secondly, she knows how to take charge, and can, usually, steer a situation the right way. but, she isn't perfect, and can't always change things for the better. additionally, daniela is considered very mature for her age. still, she tends to be overly clingy to those she considers her "children". the only way to make her go away is to basically shove her off, which makes her very sad.

it takes a lot to stick with something for almost seven years, especially when that something involves only receiving four hours of sleep a day. but, for daniela, it was all worth it. she forged her way through a language barrier, training for hours a day, and a couple of let downs using her determination, which can, perhaps, also be her downfall. she is so driven to do what she loves that she will disagree if anyone says something negative about her passions. really, anyone. and, because she sticks to the same things for so long, she tends to remember those whom have wronged her. she will not outwardly say anything to that person, but will occasionally glare or mutter under her breath about them.

 →  a few months before daniela was born, her mother, sunhye, and daniela's biological father, park woohyun, were as happy as could be. they were still fairly young and foolish in their parents' eyes, but to them, life couldn't get any better. they were recently married with a baby on the way; what wasn't to love? absolutely nothing, that's what. but, one day, tragedy struck. while the couple was driving to the beach for a day trip, a large semi-truck suddenly spun out of control on the road and ran straight into the couple's tiny, silver kia. woohyun was killed on impact, while a pregnant sunhye suffered a broken leg. Although the injury was promptly treated, sunhye remained in the hospital for a few more days. the police investigating the accident, along with the doctors at the hospital, were very concerned that the young woman would go into shock and have her child prematurely. and, under all that stress, it was possible the baby would die. so there sunhye stayed.

at some point during sunhye's long stay at the hospital, she met a man by the name of heinrich, who turned out to be her current husband. although he was a very serious man, his voice was kind and comforting, and she couldn't help falling for the soft-spoken german. he could also speak korean, which was certainly a bonus. even after daniela's mother was considered free to leave the hospital, she would frequent the building just to see heinrich in his free time - not that he had much of that. no more than three months later, the two of them knew they were made for each other, and were getting married as soon as possible. not too long after their wedding, daniela was born. the three of them lived in heinrich's small apartment, along with his son, erik. he was six years older than her, but got along as soon as daniela was old enough to interact like a normal human being. by that time, heinrich's visa had expired, and the family of four moved back to his home in cologne. after a year in germany, daniela's brother johannes was born.

from a young age, daniela liked singing, dancing, and acting. she begged her parents to let her try out acting at the local theatre. her step-father thought it would be good for her, seeing as her only two friends were her brothers, and would surely help her find some new companions. sunhye quickly agreed. so, from age five to 15, daniela was at the theatre starring in different plays and musicals.

daniela was first introduced to k-pop when its popularity was just growing in germany; she was about ten years old at the tim. she was, almost instantly, hooked, and very quickly became interested in korean culture as well. she wanted to learn about her homeland. It was at that moment daniela knew she wanted to become a k-pop idol above all else. her parents supported her, and said that she certainly could go if she was accepted into a company. heinrich was the more apprehensive of the two, concerned that daniela could be kidnapped, or get hurt and have no family to go to. sunhye assured him that daniela would be staying with her family, so everything would go just fine. finally, he agreed, and daniela sent audition tapes out to several companies. In the end, she was taken in by good entertainment. within a month, daniela was onboard a plane to daegu, then a bus to gyeongju, where she would live with her aunt and the rest of her family until good entertainment was ready for her.

while in middle school, struggling to keep up with the all-korean curriculum, daniela met a boy named jongseok. he about her accent at first, but once they became friends, he explained it was because he just wanted to befriend her, but didn't know how to go about it. he would eventually become daniela's best friend, and, briefly, her boyfriend during her last year at jeongju ochang high school. by this time, she had little trouble speaking Korean, although she made numerous mistakes when she wrote something down, and continues to do this, although far less frequently.

after transferring companies twice - from good entertainment to jyp to exuare—daniela settled into training much sooner than she previously had. being a veteran of training, she knew how it worked and what to do, generally speaking. every company was different, after all. after graduating high school, she decided to study film arts at konkuk university, where quite a few of her friends, including jongseok, ended up also. balancing her studies with training was difficult, but nothing she couldn't handle if it meant achieving her ultimate goal.

— the story of her citizenship is an odd one. for the first seven years of her life, she only held south korean citizenship, even though she lived in germany, because she was born there. however, once her mother was naturalized in 1996, daniela also became a german citizen, and remained as such for the next 14 years (by german law, dani couldn't maintain her south korean citizenship, as the child of a foreign national with dual citizenship cannot also have dual citizenship). however, in 2010, with the nationality act ammended, daniela was eligable for dual citizenship. so, between promotions for "drop the beat" and "shampoo", she applied for dual citizenship with germany and south korea, which she was granted after proving she was born in south korea to a south korean parent, and pledging she would not present her german citizenship on south korean soil. since then, she has freedom of movement throughout the european union, and can go to many other countries outside of europe without a visa. but at the same time, there are some countries she literally cannot go to because of her south korean passport.

they are the complete opposite of one another; sunhye is in a constant state of flying by the seat of her pants, while daniela is dedicated to having a plan. for this reason, she was constantly annoyed with her mother growing up, as when her mother wasn't quite in the right mindset to take care of her children, daniela would be forced to step in. they clash on almost all topics they discuss, and for this reason, many people think daniela resents her mother. and, in some ways, she does. but deep down, she cares for her mother more than anything in the world.

daniela is almost always seen scolding her brother when he's around. still, she does legitimately care about him/want what's best for him. after all, she is, in some ways, more of a maternal figure to him than their own mother. so she is, sometimes, gentle with him, like when he approaches her to talk about serious matters or girl troubles. he decided to pursue modeling as a professional career after finishing mittleschule at age 14, and in that time, he has become something of a rising star in the industry. until about a year ago, when he was signed with a south korean modeling company (kplus), johannes had been traveling throughout europe and the united states. in that time, he's been able to (sort of) make friends with some of the models around his age, and recently one kim taehyung. but johannes isn't the best at making friends, so it's more of a "we're-working-for-the-same-company-so-we-should-probably-be-nice-to-each-other."

bts and an.beat were put in the same waiting room before their respective performances, and the boys were being a little bit rowdy, as per usual. but the girls (or at least daniela) didn't mind. regardless, seokjin kept apologizing and tried to shush the other boys with little success. to this day, seokjin has stuck out to daniela, because not only is he aesthetically pleasing in daniela's eyes, but he is also constantly considering the people around him, regardless of whether he knows them or not. and ever since they first met, daniela has gone out of her way to interact with him. over time they have seen that they share a lot in common—even though there is a three year gap between them—from their caring natures to having the same major while attending university; in fact, some of seokjin's professors are the same ones daniela had, and she's sure she saw him in passing when she used to help her favorite professor with their freshman classes once. the other an.beat members like to by saying he's like her first crush, but she thinks her feelings are definitely affection, not infatuation, even if he is nice to look at. instead, she's almost like his mom, constantly babying and checking up on him. plus, she and jaekyung are made for each other, and nothing can ever change that.

trainee background

 →  when daniela left cologne, she was determined to become an idol, and that meant joining a company. she began at good entertainment in 2003, after sending an audition to them, and remained there for three years. considered to be a very diligent trainee, daniela was recognized for her hard work almost immediately. to good entertainment's founder, daniela was ideal for a future idol: she was willing to do just about anything for the chance to be famous, she was hard-working, and very friendly. after training for three years, the company's founder put her into a project group, six girls, along with a few female trainees she had sometimes passed in the halls. the six of them were, of course, excited to debut together. but, just before the girls' reality show was going to begin filming, daniela was told she had been pulled out of the group, and would debut as a soloist instead. on the inside, she was torn. she would, on one hand, be able to showcase all of her talents without going unheard, but on the other, she would not have her new friends by her side. in the end, daniela took the offer, and even ended up making a cameo on the girl's reality show (by that point, it was called "five girls", the group we all know and would have loved today). her wish was granted. in 2007, when the group and daniela were supposed to debut seperately, the company transferred all six of them to various companies, along with the rest of their artists, due to financial problems.

daniela was sent to jyp entertainment along with yubin. there, she already felt like she didn't belong. she realized it just wasn't the company for her. so, she looked around at different companies. sm was more focused on having good dancers, which she was decent at, but still not enough to stand out a lot, and yg simply wasn't her style. she briefly considered joining jiwon at core content media, but she complained about how they were treated frequently. her other friends from the six girls line-up had been able to debut, so she didn't think it would be the best idea to join their labels as a trainee. so, where was she supposed to go?

one day, as she pondered this question, she was approached by an exuare recruiting agent. daniela had told them she had never heard of this company before, but promised she would audition sometime soon. in her head, though, she said that this was very unlikely, but the woman was quite convincing, and by the end of their conversation, daniela was scheduled for an audition the following week. when the agent asked for her name, daniela, in a panic, said regen, the german word for rain (also a nickname one of her friends gave to her, due to her korean name being "sweet rain"). in the end, this ended up being her stage name. when she auditioned for exuare entertainment, she sang "survivor" by destiny's child and "forever love" by fin.kl, then danced to part of lee hyori's "toc toc toc." after being accepted, daniela worked hard, just as hard as she had before, and often went to school with only four hours of sleep.

 →  between an.beat's debut and the present (aka 2015, but 2013 too), daniela's voice has improved, and now, out of all idols, she's somewhere in the 90th percentile in terms of vocal agility, though she is most comfortable with her upper range. for this reason, she likes to incorporate whistle tones into her singing when appropriate, like mariah carey or ariana grande.

netizens have criticized daniela's voice a lot over the years because she didn't have the typical r&b or pop sound of a main vocalist, though exuare was quick to reply that daniela has the best control of her voice in the group. despite this statement, daniela worked extensively with a vocal coach to develop her voice, in hopes of pleasing fans.

because of her vocal training, her style changed a lot over the years. fans have always thought daniela sounded like sohyang, but between an.beat's debut and the end of 2011, she sounded like a cross between sohyang and kahi. 2012 and 2013 was her time of experimentation, where her voice changed a lot depending on the song. in 2014, once she settled into her signature sound, she was considered an ailee-sohyang hybrid. (in short, her talent twin is ailee)
