A1's Indiana Jane, Kim Taewon

Kim Taewon
nicknames:
Taylor - Her English name, selected both for its similarity to her real name, and also because it's uni
birthdate: June 15, 1991
birthplace: Pyongyang, South Korea
hometown: Pyongyang, Seoul
Languages:
Korean - Native tongue
English - Conversational (learned in training)
height: 166cm
weight: 52kg
appearance:
Taewon is excessively feminine when it comes to her physical appearance. Long styled hair, perfect makeup, and double-peirced ears, Taewon is a walking stereotype of how "women" should look. For her, she simply enjoys primping and trying new styles. Her meticulous care of her appearance is just an accidental side effect of her natural curiosity.
style: Taewon loves simplicity and elegance. A simple dress, flat sandals, or skinny jeans are all she needs to feel comfortable and beautiful. Even in practice she looks cute wearing capri leggings and flowing shirts. Her airport fashion is envied by many, as she manages to look effortlessly beautiful in simple skirts, belted in leather, and patterned shirts. She also has a penchant for hats and light sweater shirts to accompany her clothes. When in the dorm, Taewon relaxes substantially, usually lazing about in just pyjama bottoms and cotton tank tops. She has an overly large hoodie that she absolutely adores, and a pair of fuzzy bunny slippers to match.

Let Me Introduce Myself

background:

Taewon's parents both wanted a son. Her father often jokes that they chose the name Taewon the same day they chose their wedding bands. However, when Minhee became pregnant, it was a girl. The two couldn't agree on a girl's name, so they decided to wait and meet their daughter before choosing one. However, Minhee’s water broke three months early, and she had to get a cesarean section because her daughter had not yet turned over and couldn't be delivered naturally. There were complications with the surgery, and Minhee died on the operating table. Heartbroken, her husband, Taemin, decided to use the one name they'd chosen together so that their daughter could still have a part of her mother. Thus, Taewon received a boy's name.

Because of her early birth, Taewon had be on life support for almost three months before she was declared stable. The hospital kept her for another month just to keep an eye on her, and then Taemin was allowed to take his daughter home. Although she was supposed to be safely healthy, he fretted over her a lot, and she had a tendency to get sick often as a baby. Once she started moving around, she got into everything, and there were some very close calls with falling objects. Walking created a whole new mess of problems: she often jokes that she must've set a new record of how many stairs one can fall down in the course of a week.

When she was in junior high, Taewon became close with a group of kids generally considered to be 'bad'. She'd started talking to them on a dare, but she found that she actually could get along with them pretty well. She ended up hanging out with them a lot more than her friends and father thought was particularly safe, but she insisted that she was fine and that they just didn't understand her new friends. However, as it turned out, they understood perfectly - it was Taewon who was being gullible. She ended up unwittingly becoming embroiled in a plot involving illegal drugs. Lucky for her, nothing went on her record since it was her first offense and everything else in her life pointed to her having just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. She doesn't really talk about this time of her life much since she is still ashamed and embarrassed by it. Since this, though, she's been more open to the idea that she can and will be wrong sometimes. She's still naive as ever, though.

Taewon's first voice lesson was in kindergarten during music time. She fell in love with it and begged her father for private lessons. He of course immediately hired the best vocal trainer he could afford for his "little miracle" as he always called her. She continued her lessons through her entire life, and when she was thirteen she announced that she wanted to be a singer. Her father warned her that music was a tough career to be in, but she was adamant. She filmed her first audition tape when she was about fourteen, but she was rejected. She continued trying, sending out over a hundred tapes to every company she could think of, and finally, when she was sixteen, she was accepted by A-Cube Entertainment. However, although her singing was strong, her dancing left a lot to be desired, so her training mostly focused on that aspect. She trained hard, and she was slotted as a future member of A-Pink when she was eighteen. However, just weeks before debut she was switched out for another trainee, and she was moved from A-CUBE to CUBE where she continued her training. When she was twenty-two she met a representative of Woollim, and when he offered her a chance to audition, she happily agreed, having though she was too old to become and idol and thankful for a second chance.

Personality:

(+) Friendly, Caring, Humble

(/) Mischevious, Optimistic

(-) Tempermental, Impulsive, Thoughtless

Taewon is overall a very friendly person. She looks for the good in everybody, but has the unfortunate tendency to either not notice or just ignore the bad. She's naturally curious and loves just letting people talk so she can get to know them better. She's a talented listener and generally remembers what people have said to her, making her a choice confidant for her friends. She's an extrovert through and through, though, so despite her enjoyment of listening, she loves the spotlight as well. She loves talking to people, and will go on for hours if allowed. Her filter leaves something to be desired, though - when she has a thought, it's probably going to pop out even if it would be wiser to keep it in.

Taewon is also very positive about things. She's very rarely ever sad, and when she is, she ignores it "until it goes away." It's not particularly healthy, and quite hypocritical considering she always tells her friends and members to talk about their feelings, but she really really really hates being sad herself. So she's always smiling and goofing around, trying to get others to smile as well. Her unofficial motto is "Laughter is the best medicine!"

Because she ignores her problems instead of facing them head on, she'll occasionally blow up, generally over something stupid. Although her temper is explosive when first ignited, it cools down pretty quickly, and she'll generally be apologizing for her outburst within an hour of it occurring.

Taewon takes pleasure in teasing her friends and bandmates about pretty much everything. She's a total troll at times, and she loves playing pranks and cracking jokes whenever it seems appropriate. She has been known to got too far at times, but she'll stop if asked and will immediately apologize. However, she'll be back to goofing around within minutes of the scolding, as her mischievousness always wins out over her, rather lacking, self-control.

family:

Father - Kim Taemin - 56 - Financial Consultant - Taewon and her father are extremely close, and she talks about the hardships of single parenthood quite often and constantly thanks him on shows and in the "thanks to" section of albums.

Mother - Lee Minhee - Deceased - Model - Minhee met Taemin by complete accident at a coffee shop when another customer bumped into her and she spilled her latte all over Taemin's shirt. The rest was history. Taewon likes to tell her parent's meeting story and gush over how cute it is.

Close friends:

Best Friend - Im Haneul - 24 - Student Teacher - Haneul and Taewon have been insperable best friends since kindergarten. Taewon texts Haneul a lot, and Haneul was the first person to find out about Taewon and Minsoo.

Good Friends - Yoon Bomi - 22 - Member of A-Pink - Bomi and Taewon were fast friends during their pre-debut years, and despite being upset about the lineup change, she's extremely supportive of the group and often promotes A-Pink on her social media sites. Her and Bomi still talk when they can, mostly through Kakao.

Friends/Mentor-Student - Kim Sunggyu - 26 - Member of INFINITE - Taewon met Sunggyu when she got lost trying to find the right practice room early in her training at Woollim. He was busy practicing himself, but took time to show her to the right room. During their walk she fangirled a bit over his voice and he offered to give her a few tips, which she was more than happy to accept. He still helps her out with technique when he can, and they're drinking buddies.

name: Nam Ohhyuk (FC: Eddy Kim)

Personality: Ohhyuk is meticulous, and doesn't like to leave anything out of place. As the head vocal trainer at Woollim, he expects perfection from both the trainees and the trainers and isn't afraid to be extremely blunt in his critiques. Ohhyuk is a perfectionist. He puts a lot of pressures on himself and subsequently others, and can become very frustrated when things don't turn out the way he wants. However, when he's not working Ohhyuk relaxes substantially. He's actually a very nice guy when he's not stressed (he's always stressed though) and is extremely thoughtful towards others' feelings. He's the sort of person to surprise someone he cares about with a random gift because they seemed down. He doesn't take , but he also doesn't give it and is always fully honest, including admitting his own mistakes and shortcomings.

How they met: Ohhyuk was Taewon's vocal trainer for her second lesson at Woollim. The rest is history.

Relationship Status: Love to hate you

Interactions: Taewon and Ohhyuk have known each other since she joined Woollim, and they have never gotten along. She always complains about his pickiness and he in turn says she's "just sensitive". They're constantly at each others' throats while Taewon is training, and it only gets worse when Taewon becomes a vocal coach. They can't agree on anything, often being contrary just to spite each other, and often getting people caught in the crossfire. They almost seek each other out solely to argue about things, and people have started to wonder if they actually hate each other or if they're just trying to see each other.

Taewon's message for A1: "I wish you all the best. I've trained with a lot of you and you're all amazingly talented and I look forward to seeing how you blossom in the future! A1 hwaiting!"

Intro: "Annyeong, Taewon-immnida! Hehe, I know it's an odd name for a pretty girl, but it's mine! Please take care of me!" (I was thinking for introducing herself at the showcase to the audience~)

On debut: "I've been training a really long time you know, and I'm getting older. I think I need to realize that this... isn't something that's going to happen for me. But don't worry! I'll still be around. I asked the CEO and he says there's room for a new vocal trainer here at Woollim, so you'll still be seeing plenty of me! And now you'll have to listen when I nag!" (I see this as her talking to the A1 girls, maybe Elizah specifically? I could see them bonding over the long training period)
