BTS RUN MV THEORY
MY THEORY ON BANGTAN’S STRING OF SOUL-REAPING MUSIC VIDEOS
OK SO IT’S SUPER MESSY BUT WHAT I HAVE NOW IS BASICALLY THE EXPLANATION OF THE MEMBERS IN THE RUN MV – LIKE WHY THEY ARE ACTING SO AND SO. For one, the RUN MV depicts both before and after the “incident” that changed them. Also, The MV does this thing where it keeps bumping back to the past during scenes that seem familiar that they do post-incident. It’s like déjà vu, and sometimes they are aware that the scene is somewhat familiar while sometimes they just unconsciously act that way and the MV brings it back to the past. IDK IF U GET ME IM A COMPLICATED PERSON OKAY.
Rapmon: I think he is the one being the most mature one and he lives alone and basically in the way he would have if he didn’t meet the other members. You know, like a K-Drama lonewolf protagonist. The mv starts off with his casual life drinking his water and taking a walk where he used to go with the members (the familiar train tracks) which shows he misses them and he really loved them but life goes on for the guy and he stays strong. Life is also clearly going on for him because the lollipop is still part of his daily habits. But it isn’t in the way that he isn’t affected by the “incident” because you can see his posture and all basically depicts a man who has scars from the past. He doesn’t frown or mope around, but the thing is he doesn’t smile anymore, not like he does pre-incident.
HOebi: This guy is in the hospital now and it makes sense because he was taking meds since before – when they were still together; when there was still 7 of them. And when Jimin visits him, it also makes sense because in their group of friends, he and Jimin are probably the tightest, given how even in the Prologue, J-Hope had covered up sleeping Jimin with the blanket. In terms of their behaviour in reaction to the “incident”, I think they are trying to deal with it by being there for each other, because they are both scarred by it. But, Hobi’s internal struggle here is how he deals with his sickness in a more negative manner. For instance, in INU, he basically chugs down the pills (ALSO, his being hospitalized could be precisely because he took too many pills).
Jimin: As mentioned in J-Hope’s, he is trying to support his homie after the dreadful “incident”. But, the boy faces his own struggle and in his scenes, you see him in the all too familiar bathtub. Now, the reason why the bathtub scene is different from INU (aside from the fact that he already changed his hair so technically they need to account for that) is probably because that is his lair; it is where he sleeps. The bathtub is a familiar place because pre-incident, you see them joking and trying to drown him there. So Jimin finds himself going back to the memorable place to relive the moment. In INU, you see him freezing off. That depicts one of the instances where he probably got carried away with the bathtub thingy. But why is this place so memorable? There are two things to note here. 1. Jin was there when he was joking like that, so in a way, it is something he keeps in memory. And 2. It is irony at its peak because they were jokingly drowning him then but ironically, it happened for real to one of the 7, so that’s why the memory sticks to Jimin.
Suga: The guy is also suicidal (J-Hope’s illness could also be mental too) and you see fire surrounding him. He’s filled with rage and sadness AND, as the theories have been suggesting, is dating Jeongguk. I will explain that more under Jeongguk’s part. But, basically, after the incident, his tendencies are more frequent and more intense, thus the fight with Jeongguk that got pretty physical. That’s his case. He doesn’t have any more than how he is always so fire-y and how he’s extra touchy with JK.
Jeongguk: I think he’s basically depicted as the guy who doesn’t comment on much and say much (naturally you could say this was because he is the maknae ykwim) but he witnessed everything – from the beginning to the end. He saw everything – how it started, how they were, and how it ended. That’s why most of his parts were all in his head. For instance, the way he re-enacted the party in RUN MV and also how in the end he turned back to look at their truck (I only saw 6 members including Jeongguks so I suppose Jin was in the truck) WATCH HIS EYES. They’re saying something the whole RUN MV. But, I’ll buy the theory that he was indeed dating Suga. While he was somewhat the guy who watches, he throws his uncommenting nature out when Suga starts acting up and jumps to stop the guy from hurting himself from too much rage. Btw, if you’re wondering why they’re dating: In INU, they were pretty close. In Prologue, you see MUCH MUCH MORE clearly how they are really close. It’s just a guess. They could be the other pair of homies in the group of 7. But, I think they had a romantic relationship.
Taehyung: Now, it’s getting juicier. In Run, you see Taehyung’s drowning scenes. You might think he died, and the whole big “incident” was his death and that Run was depicting the ghost of Tae in unrest. But I believe it was Jin who died. And the scenes of Tae drowning were in his imagination. What he rather happened was that he drowned, not Jin. Alternatively, it could be that the scenes were of him really drowning, but when he turned behind to face the camera in the water, I’m guessing he saw Jin swimming towards him to save him. Later, Jin probably dies while Taehyung is saved. Now, what’s the drowning fiasco about? In Prologue, you see how Taehyung loves climbing. He climbed in the start when the guys joined him in that old, empty swimming pool. And so when he saw the thingy at the dock at the beach that Jin loved so much, he climbed that too. This was in the prologue. They were all like “yooo hes crazy wtf” but then they started urging him to take the jump. Why? Because they are risk-takers who live their young life to the fullest, as seen how they party and vandalise throughout RUN hahahah. The way prologue ends with Taehyung mid-jump is very meaningful because this picture clearly depicts the moment their legacy ends – the very moment Taehyung took the jump. Thus the memory haunts Taehyung the most and he kills a man out of his internal struggle in INU and cries about it in Prologue. I’m guessing he called either a dead Jin’s cellphone in the prologue or Rapmon for help. I also suppose his relationship with Rapmon was such that because Rapmon is so-called the “mature” one and Tae is the most childish one, they were the OTHER pair of homies in the group. This is also clear where they were vandalising and got caught by the police. But for this part, I’m not sure if it was pre- or post-. I’m leaning more to how it was before the “incident”.
Jin: Now, we have arrived to the main event!!! My stand is that Jin is the main character – the guy who died from the “incident”. This is just a theory. As explained in Taehyung’s part, I think Jin, the ‘background guy’ died saving Taehyung. Background guy. Why? Because he is always behind the camera. And all he does is play cards and laugh along. He’s like the deep guy you know – loving his mates quietly. To back up my stand why I think he died, he was the most supernatural one in INU LOL. Even when he opened the curtains, it’s like he’s in heaven and light shines on him (in INU). And he keeps crying too – in both INU and Run. I’m guessing it’s because he sees his friends’ struggle from above, and is sad how they grieve so hard for him and how their relationship is in shambles. Btw, his butterfly from INU reappeared on the card in Run. The way rapmon looked at the card makes my hair stand. I personally think it’s related. On this note, I better go relook Butterfly’s lyrics. Anyway, to further substantiate why I think he died: Jimin, in the mostttt lastttt scene of the Run MV, after the credits, stares at a polaroid. Jin disappears right? That scene is also from prologue. The way the picture changed was very very important to show how Jin was the one who died. Or, rather, it simply confirmed it for us. But The technical truth is, Jin snapped the picture, so obviously he isn’t in the picture. The boy was the one going around with the polaroid. But, anyway, since he isn’t in the picture, Jimin burns the picture together with all the memories of Jin saying he wants to go to the beach (in prologue). I’m guessing that Jin loved the sea, and Jimin burns the picture thinking how it was foolish to love the sea, because the sea killed Jin.
TA-DAH. I applaud you if you read to the end. I probably missed a lot of scenes but basically this is it. I’m not gonna tidy up. Bye; I’m gonna try to sleep now oh god
