You never see him slouching and he's always sitting and standing properly. He's grown used to it and people often feel some kind of formal vibe from him because of it.

Who are you?

plotline » Free ( Knight of Alterie )

personality »
[ + ] playful, independent, cooperative, dedicated
[ o ] invisible, passive, competitive, observant
[ - ] aloof, intolerant, deceptive, absentminded

playful, aloof, invisible ; "Leave me be, hellspawn.. I'm kidding, come back here!"
— When getting to know Jaeha, people realize that he's much more playful than they would have guessed. He loves puns and is most likely the first one to laugh at a horrible joke. His general standard of humor is different, though it's still appreciated by his friends outside and inside the company. He has a dark and insensitive humor, cracking jokes involving death. Some people would hear him state an insult or something morbid and they'd wonder if he truly means what he says because of his expression. But his friends know that it's his way of teasing and will laugh along with him. This side only ever shows up in front of whom he considers his friends.
— He's aloof towards his peers and isn't so set on communicating with others. Jaeha gets irritated whenever he is urged to socialize more, prefering to go at his own pace when it comes to getting to know people. Most people get put off by their first impression of his as they usually take his straight face as him being irritated, but there would be some who realize that isn't the case as they continue interacting with him.
— Because he tends to stay back whenever he is in a social events, he is in a way invisible. Jaeha doesn't have any presence and no one would notice his absence with the exception of his friends. At times, it bothers him that people forget about him, especially when it comes to important matters. Jaeha doesn't let it bring him down too much. He blends into the crowd and doesn't stick out at all, but he likes to see it as an advantage of his. He hears a lot of things from many people, both townfolk and officials. Jaeha doesn't go around telling anything about what he overhears and keeps it to himself.

independent, passive, intolerant ; "I'm fine with working with people, as long as the team isn't a trainwreck."
— Jaeha learned how to be independent at a very young age and has learned how to deal with his own problems alone. Of course, he does know when to ask for help, but he'd usually like to work alone or in small groups.  This is mostly because it would be easier for him to communicate his ideas with everyone. He isn't against working with a big group if they are good at listening. Jaeha is one of those people who would be the least bothered by going through something new and would be seen facing on a challenge even if there's no one to help him. Many will see that he works and progresses well by himself.
— In groups, Jaeha is passive when decisions have to be made. As long as the plan sounds plausible, he has nothing against it. If he says anything during discussions, it's probably to fix a hole in the plan or to reconfirm it. Unless he's brought into it, he would let the rest of his teammates deal with any conflicts in the group.
— There are times when he decides for himself that he has to step in and talk, and that is when people get out of hand. Jaeha is intolerant towards any misbehaviour, whether it'd be rude, annoying, or unnecessary. He despises whiners and the similar sorts but he doesn't let his anger get the best of him, especially over people like them. He hates it when people cry out their woes for such an extensive time. Jaeha tries to understand as to why they act in such a way, but if there isn't anything valid, he gives them a harsh talk.

cooperative, competitive, deceptive ; "Alright, may the one with the most kills win!"
— Although he likes working by himself, Jaeha is a cooperative person to have in the group. He is more of a follower than a leader. He doesn't mind if things don't exactly go his way and would rather carry on with the plan instead of bringing down the whole team because of inflexibility. The only time Jaeha would change a course of the plan is if he encounters an unpredictable objective. He works well with his teammates when he learns about them, supporting their strengths and filling in their weaknesses as much as he can.
— When facing the opposing side, Jaeha gets competitive. Whether it's a battle or simply a game, he loves the idea of a test of skill. It lets him stay on his toes and loves it when there's a new challenge. Once he gets in tune with the suspense, there's no stopping him. Jaeha gets a bit more aggressive due to the adrenaline. He won't stop going at it until it's over, even if his lungs felt like they were burning with each breath he took.
— Jaeha is a formidable one, being deceptive. He takes a step back to learn his opponent and while he does so, he pretends to be naive, leading them to think that they have the upper hand. Jaeha knows when is being taken advantage of and sometimes would even play along until the opportunity presents itself to bring them down. When he wants to achieve something, he wouldn't hesitate to use his skill of trickery.

dedicated, observant, absentminded ; "I see through all your habits. All I need to do now is take you down."
— Jaeha is dedicated to the things he loves to do. He won't stop until he's satisfied with his own progress, and sometimes, he would go beyond it. He doesn't just follow his instructors' opinions, but also his own thoughts. Even if he's told he's doing well, if it's not good enough to him, you'd see him stay in the field in the late hours trying to perfect physical routines or improve his magic. It gets to him whenever he can't do something, especially if he's given a lot of his effort to it. Jaeha gets scared of the thought of all his time of training landing with no result.
— Through learning from his parents and others, Jaeha became observant. When surrounded by people, he sits back and notes how they act and reads their body language. He's quick to recognize the atmosphere and small changes. This shows the most when he is in battle. The main reason why he likes taking the defense role first is to pick up his opponent's habits. Their attack timing, defending posture, their limits physically and magically.
— Jaeha can get stuck into his thoughts when left alone, making him
absentminded. Once his head is in the clouds, there's no way he can get himself out of there. While training and fighting, he learned not to ponder for too long. It never ended well for him. Jaeha could put his dagger in his hand while he carries something else in his other hand, and minutes later, he would wonder where his blade went when it's actually still in his hand. He could do things unconsciously and he'd snap out of his thoughts, having to track back if he actually did things properly. It's nice to slip into the safety of one's own mind, but it will eventually bring trouble.

home is where your heart is.

background » Jaeha was born in Alei, Alterie. He had an older brother named Changnam and a younger sister named Yurim. The earliest point of his life he remembers, Yurim had already been born. His parents unintentionally neglected him, focusing on Changnam and babying Yurim. Jaeha didn't like it at first, but then he got used to it. He knew his parents don't mean it, so he let it be. For most of his childhood, he was left alone, resulting in him being aloof and independent later on.

At the age of ten, he came across a girl being chased by the royal guards. Jaeha followed her and saw where she hid, but when he was questioned by the guards, he pretended not to know anything of the situation. When they passed, she got out of her spot and thanked him. Jaeha asked who she was and why she was being chased, intent to turn her in if the reason was bad enough. The girl introduced herself as Song Eunkyung of Alterie, pulling down her hood to prove her identity. Once he realized she was the princess, he completely dropped the idea of turning her in.

He was always curious of the royal family and tagged along with her for the day, insisting that he guide her through the whole city. It went on for about a few weeks, and Jaeha was eager to show Eunkyung how much there was to the capital. Unfortunately, the two were caught. Under Eunkyung's order, Jaeha was spared and she was brought back into the castle. He was guilty for getting themselves caught. He searched through the city everyday, hoping to see Eunkyung again. It took a long time, but when he found her, she told him off. Jaeha was forbidden to see her again, and if he is seen again with her, she herself didn't know what would happen to him.

Just like what she said, he stopped looking for her. Jaeha was dismayed, but he respected the higher authorities and did what he was told. Years later, his father talked to him and Changnam, explaining that there is a tradition that at least one son from each generation of the family should become a knight. His older brother didn't want anything to do with that, as he was much more interested in carrying on his father's blacksmith shop. Jaeha was the opposite, willing to be part of Alterie's army. Not only did he want to carry the tradition, but it was a possible way to reunite with Eunkyung. He concluded that no one would remember his face by then, being aged sixteen.

This tradition originated when Alterie was young. Jaeha, his father, and his siblings are descendants of a former noble family. Their family directly served under the royal family and fought alongside them in wars. It was a tradition forged because of the friendship between their families. But because of the wars' chaos they suffered, they soon drifted apart and the Hwang family were now considered common people. His father was glad that Jaeha was willing to take the position. His mother supported him as well. His father, Jinwoo, had no knowledge in magic and possessed none. His mother, Inhae, was different. Inhae hailed from Etheria and is greatly capable with magic. She took the opportunity to teach Jaeha, reasoning that knowing how to use magic will help him. Inhae was quite strict with her lessons, being a teacher and having schooled several children in magic in her younger days. At one point, she taught someone from Etheria's royal family.

Currently, Jaeha has been progressing well as a knight and is recognized by the military officials for his potential. He wonders how close he is to seeing Eunkyung, hoping that someday he'll have a task that requires entering the castle. Little did he know, he would be receiving a mission more than what he expects. The higher ups insist that a knight from their own kingdom should also be entrusted to the task. They called up their candidates, Jaeha being one of them, and tested their abilities. The reason for gathering them was not going to be explained among the candidates, but to the one chosen. There were many knights who trained much longer than he did, however, Jaeha ended up being the one selected. Perhaps there were other factors for selecting the knight. Eunkyung did spectate the process, maybe there was a bias. Maybe not. *cough*

family »

father // Hwang Jinwoo // 51 // blacksmith // They aren't too close, but they have a good father-son relationship. Jaeha appreciates the hardwork his father puts for the family. In return, Jaeha assures that Jinwoo doesn't need to worry about his son's future and is set on making him proud. Jinwoo himself is already proud of how capable of knight Jaeha has become and has hopes for his son achieving higher in the ranks than Jinwoo did when he was once a soldier in Alterie's army.  // 7/10

mother // Hwang Inhae // 51 // housewife // Jaeha wouldn't have any other mother but Inhae. He loved how she was never too restricting and was always open for a talk. She trusted him with his responsibilities and privileges, and because of that, Jaeha makes sure that she is given the respect that she needs. The two often talk about Jaeha's ability with magic, and even if it has been years since he discovered his power, he still finds himself tired whenever Inhae gives him one of her spontaneous magic training. But he'll always be grateful for it. // 8/10

brother // Hwang Changnam // 22 // blacksmith // Changnam always made time for his siblings, especially when it comes to Jaeha. When he is done with his work, Changnam would take him out to eat somewhere and the two would exchange anything that happened to them. Occasionally, he would allow Jaeha's friends to tag along. These two are so close that they don't need to do much to fully communicate. They can communicate with facial expressions and small gestures and they would still know what the other is trying to talk about.  // 9/10

sister // Hwang Yurim // 18 // tailor // Back then as children, Yurim and Jaeha despised each other. Eventually, they grew out of it and are closer. Jaeha still likes to and make mean comments, but they're all in a playful tone rather than in hate. Yurim has a crush on one of his friends, Kyujin, and Jaeha often likes taking that as an advantage to make her flustered. He'd bring in Kyujin to hang in their home without a prior notice just to witness Yurim freak out when she sees him in their house. Luckily for her, Kyujin is oblivious to it. // 8/10

friends/rivals »

childhood friend // Song Eunkyung // 17 // princess of Alterie // These two never got to know each other personally when they were children, but that didn't stop them from enjoying the other's company. Jaeha was never afraid of Eunkyung and instead found her fascinating. He did listen to her when he needed to. Whenever she snuck out of the castle, he would accompany her and make sure she wasn't in any trouble. It's the same thing even now when he finally meets her again and is chosen to be one of her escorts to make way for the water faerie. // 7/10

best friend // Jeon Yujun // 19 // blacksmith // Yujun frequented the blacksmith shop Jaeha's father owned and would linger around for hours staring at the weaponry and armoury displayed. Jaeha eventually recognized him to be a regular and befriended him, keeping him company in the shop. They've been friends for years and would often go around the city when they had free time on their hands. Because Yujun is an apprentice under Changnam's guidance, they've been seeing each other much more than before. // 8/10

close friend // Kim Kyujin // 18 // knight // Kyujin and Jaeha enlisted into Alterie's army at the same time, therefore they were in the same trainee division. It took weeks of clinging for Kyujin to open up Jaeha, but when he did, these two were side by side almost all the time. People would see them together at their stations, even if Kyujin is actually supposed to be stationed elsewhere. They'd spar each other and would head out home at the same time. On days off, Kyujin would crash into the blacksmith shop and hang with Yujun and Jaeha. // 8/10

the one and only.

love interest » kim kibum ( 19 ; september 23 )

backup love interest » none

Crushes» n/a

personality » affectionate, reliable, witty, assertive

love story » As one of his duties, Jaeha is one among the group of knights who Alterie's officials to Ashvale. For most cases, the conferences are to simply strengthen relations between the two kingdoms and their trade. It was only by Jaeha's third visit in Ashvale when he met Kibum, about two years ago. Jaeha remembered seeing glimpses of him around the kingdom and sometimes even in the castle. He was going around the market searching for new fabric Yurim could work with, something that his sister had asked of him since his first visit to Ashvale. There he met Kibum, browsing around for his own materials. Having found an appreciation for a tailor's work through his sister, Jaeha was able to get along with him very well. Maybe too well.

He found it endearing how caring and affectionate he was, even more when it shows through his nagging and sass. Jaeha would smile, assuring Kibum to look after himself. When he wasn't with Kibum, he would be with Ashvale's soldiers, testing his own strength and skill against theirs. Kibum eventually learned of this, trying to squeeze in an opportunity to spectate while he competed. He was pleasantly surprised to see him be skilled as he was, as Jaeha barely ever mentioned anything about his abilities. Jaeha soon realized he was watching, pleased to be told that he was impressed (even if it was just slightly).

When together, they would be going around the city. Jaeha would be accompany him and would sometimes help him out on errands. It's usually him being pulled around by Kibum, but he doesn't mind it too much. He'd often , only to get nagged back. It's a bit like watching a dog and a cat together, with the cat leading out of the two and the dog trailing just behind. The two became a bit more affectionate as they saw each other more. The two weren't sure how the public would react, so they kept intimate gestures for when they were alone.

the Powerful You.

Powers (s) »
Territory ; Jaeha has the ability to switch people's physical positions at his will, including his. This helps him evade his enemy's attacks and adds on to his agility. His ability puts stress on his opponents, making them have to prepare themselves in case their location would be switched between him and them. It can also be used to switch his allies' positions to place them into safety. Using this takes a lot of his energy and it feeds even more from him if he uses it on more than two people at a time. Because of that, Jaeha tends to use this power at a minimum and strategically as his magic stamina can only take him so far. He has been putting his time into improving that.

Weapons »
Sword ; A slender silver sword with intricate carving. It is not meant to deal heavy damage, however, it is light to handle and matches up with how Jaeha fights.
Dagger ; A silver dagger decorated with golden carvings. Jaeha is seen using this with easier fights and is also often found pairing the dagger with his sword when the battle calls for it.
Axe ; Knights are typically taught how to fight on horseback. During the time he was trained, Jaeha was most comfortable wielding the axe and eventually got his own. However, this weapon is the least commonly used as Jaeha is accustomed to fighting with it only on horseback.

Fighting Style » Being a tad bit slender than the majority of men, Jaeha's specialty has always been in his agility. He always starts a fight with him filling in the role of defence, preferring to wear down his opponent before he starts taking the offensive. While defending, Jaeha cuts down the opponent one at a time, aiming for their hands, arms, or legs to render them immobile. He usually goes for what is most important, and that is his opponent's dominant hand. Jaeha also cuts the other hand as well in case they are ambidextrous, just to be safe. He goes for the legs first if the arms and hands are out of question. However, it doesn't take much to bring Jaeha down. An opponent who is just as smart or smarter than him in battle can follow up with what he's observing and will cover up their fighting habits, which would lead Jaeha into frustration or panic. Fighters who are quick and unpredictable are his least favorite.

last words.

comments/suggestions » so first of all, i am so sorry if this seemed too long. ; ; i tried to make it short but that kinda failed. i didn't want to cut some parts because i wanted to be thorough with the character. I couldn't write much for the love story since the love interest is an applicant. OTL i honestly couldn't find much for sleepwear. /creys

scene requests »
- the group is taking a break from traveling and they fish by a river. then they all just stare at him repeatedly stabbing at the fishes' general direction.
- during fighting an opponent, he tells a character to jump off a nearby cliff. he had to yell at them to trust him. once they did, he switches the character and the opponent's locations, causing the opponent to fall to his/her death.
- ends up being injured saving one of the princes/princesses from a lethal attack.
