FACE CLAIM — baek sumin

BACK-UP FACE CLAIM — jo min young

APPEARANCE — lina is petite, shorter than average, and because of this she feels like she has to make up for her size in being extra loud. she does have a pierced belly button and two tattoos; a butterfly on her right hipbone, and a treble clef on the back of her neck that's usually covered up by her hair.

FASHION STYLE — she has a sort of comfortable, street-ish style. a typical day would usually require some leggings or skinny jeans and a printed t-shirt. depending on the season, she might don a huge sweater or hooded sweatshirt or a flannel over a tank top with some jeans, and if its hotter she'll be more prone to tank tops and shorts with brightly colored belts. she prefers clothes in dark colors, with bright accessories. some of her favorites are belts and shoelaces, as well as hats. beanies and snapbacks are a must. favorite shoes are converse and boots. has a favorite leather jacket that is practically worn through at the elbows but she's never going to throw it away cause its warm and comfortable and familiar.
- when required to dress up will be good with just a black dress and some heels. no bracelets or necklaces or anything. just that and maybe some bright red lipstick. dressing up is kind of a pain.
- has the WORST airport fashion. will probably show up at airports in her pajamas, hair a mess, possibly barefoot. or terribly clashing prints. its almost embarrassing, but lina rolls with it.
- practice clothes are usually the same as her casual clothes. might be looser, more like yoga or jogging pants, but still leggings and a t-shirt or tank top. really, though, she can get comfortable in practically anything. except maybe latex/rubber. if there are ever any stage costumes involving latex she will probably lose her , both laughing at the ridiculousness and complaining nonstop about how irritating it is to her skin.

I'M DIFFERENT +

POSITIVE TRAITS — energetic, hardworking, cheerful, friendly, loyal

NEGATIVE TRAITS — snarky, tactless, naive, stubborn, childish

NEUTRAL TRAITS - loud, ambitious, punny

PERSONALITY — All of her life, Lina wanted to be something big and bright and beautiful. She has a natural sort of infectious energy that never seems to cease, and she tries to channel that into everything she loves to do. Lina is a girl with a dream, and she's willing to do whatever it takes to reach that dream. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to dance and sing, and her greatest strength lies in the fact that she is willing to push herself to the brink of exhaustion in order to get better. Her hardworking nature earned her the nickname Try-Hard Queen, due to her almost unhealthy obssession with training. As a result of her efforts, however, Lina is confident that she has every right to be where she is, and isn't afraid to tell anyone who questions otherwise that her being an idol isn't by mistake at all.
Her hardworking nature also plays into her naivety and stubbornness a bit - she's very much a subscriber to the idea that with enough hard work and perseverance, anyone can achieve their dreams. Hence why she pushes herself so hard, and isn't afraid to put someone in their place if they complain about how unfair life is. She's a huge believer in karma and the universe, to the point where its kind of a running joke, and she says so with a smile on her face, but she truly believes it. Like a child who believes in Disney, she honestly believes that with time the good guys will win and the bad guys won't, and with a wish and hard work dreams can come true, and what's meant to be will be.
Her childishness can sometimes get on some people's nerves, while others can find her refreshing. She likes to describe herself as "smiling and being stupid", but while she's certainly not the brainiest one of the bunch, her intelligence is fairly average. She's seemingly always got a smile for everyone, bubbly and bright and oh-so-happy. She's seemingly at home enough in her skin to be the first to introduce herself to strangers, her friendliness almost like that of a labrador retriever's. Strangers might sometimes be overwhelmed by her energy and noise, while friends might look upon it with fondness. Lina loves to smile and share her happiness with others, willing to almost do anything to get a laugh, whether its attempting silly stunts or just making the most groan-worthy puns in the history of the word. Her natural loudness, however, does tend to get a bit annoying and exhausting after a while, and sometimes it seems like she does lack a brain-to-mouth filter.
On the more serious side, being a huge believer in karma, Lina always pays her debts. If you do something nice for her, she will remember it. If you're close enough to her, she will do practically anything in the world for you, loyal to a fault. To those who truly know her, Lina might seem a little more toned down than seen at a first glance. Still smiling and cheerful, but maybe a little quieter and thoughful at times. If she's in a mood (which she only allows those very close to her to see), her humor might turn a bit darker, a bit more biting. Catch her on the wrong day, her breezy, light comments just might hit a little too close to home. It's not that she doesn't have insecurities (she has a lot actually) - she's just very, very good at hiding them. She's very aware that she could be so cruel, if she wanted to, and thinks a lot about the right words to say if she ever wanted to. Lina knows the importance of words very much, which is why she's so good at speaking for the group. The question is, however, if the words she's saying are true.

BACKGROUND — Lina is the eldest girl in her family. Her father had always hoped for a son, but it didn't seem to be in the cards. It didn't matter, because Lina almost preferred to be treated like a boy growing up anyway, wrestling with the boys at school, playing sports. Singing was the one thing she kept to herself, although that changed as she got older. Her family was very close, ate dinner together every night, attended school functions together. She grew up watching over her little sister, Minah, and the two girls are still like peas in a pod. When Lina entered high school she began helping out in her father's store as a part-time (though unpaid) worker. The only downside to her family's closeness was that perfection became almost expected - everything had to run smoothly, good grades, happy smiles. If anything made anyone sad or angry, it seemed to be shoved under the rug to save face. Lina was expected to be a good student, get into a good university, and marry a good man.
Throughout her life, she always had a fierce passion for performing. Upon her entrance into middle school, she began auditioning for plays, joining her church choir and even landing small parts in her school musicals. She felt so at home in the theatre and hoped to someday be an actress, maybe in America on Broadway. The amount of time spent devoted to music may have wavered throughout the years just because of the fact she was a student who had to also devote part of her time to studying, but it was always fairly constant, always in the back of her mind. The piano was a comfort, the stage like coming home.
In 2009, at the age of fifteen, Lina took an impromptu trip to Seoul with a friend who wished to audition for SM Entertainment at the weekly auditions. Though the friend did not get in, Lina was intrigued by the process, and went back the next week to audition for herself. Though she of course didn't make it, she liked the experience enough to keep returning to Seoul to audition for several companies before finally being signed onto 1Chance Ent. in 2010.

LONG TIME NO SEE +

FAMILY —

+ FATHER — Kim Jang-woo / 49 / mini-mart owner / quiet, supportive, more action-oriented rather than word oriented / Lina and her father are very close, even if they don't speak about things like emotions very often. Rather, their closeness is in their actions, the hours she'd spend after school working with him or the times he'd listen to her sing while she did her chores. He calls her every week just to say hi and see how's she's doing and she'll say she's fine and doing well because she loves him.
+ MOTHER — Nguyen Thanh / 46 / housewife and part-time nurse / practical, honest, reliable / Lina and her mother are not quite as close, but their relationship is more practical. Lina knows her mother will always tell her the truth and is a good person to come to in a crisis. She does connect well with her mother's Vietnamese heritage, and feels like that makes them a lot closer
+ SISTER — Kim Min-Ah / 13 / student / sassy, clever, slightly aloof / Lina's sister is perhaps a little too clever for her own good, and doesn't quite understand why her older sister wants to spend all her time prancing around in flashy outfits instead of doing something good for the world. But she doesn't judge, and is secretly proud (and maybe a little jealous) or Lina. Lina adores her younger sister, and tries to keep in touch often, even though Min-Ah is getting to be that age where she's too cool for everything.

FRIENDS —

+ BESTFRIEND —  Gwon Ji-Hye / 21 / barista / bright, daydreamer, optimistic / Lina's best friend since middle school, the one she went with to audition at SM with. After high school, Ji-Hye moved to Seoul, and the two girls met each other by chance at the coffee shop where Ji-Hye works. The two have kept in contact ever since, being each other's closest friend and confidantes. It's only with Ji-Hye that Lina truly lets down her guard completely, ceasing the idol image for just a moment to be Lina from church choirs and school musicals again. It was also through Ji-Hye that Lina was able to meet the person she's currently developing feelings for.

+ CLOSE FRIEND — Jung Yunhee / 19 / trainee at 1C Ent. / timid, sweet, intelligent / Yunhee and Lina were trainees together for at least two years, and grew close despite their differences in age and the fact that Lina is a vocal while Yunhee is a dancer. Though Yunhee has yet to debut, Lina has faith in her. Sometimes, however, Lina has trouble with her sentiment that Yunhee simply isn't working hard enough to debut.
+ CLOSE FRIEND - Lee Hong-bin / 21 / VIXX / shy, sometimes awkward, kind / They met at an awards function, where Lina teasingly commented on his good looks, especially his "smiley vocals", even though that didn't make much sense. Their friendship grew over time through more encounters, and now they're very close friends, often seen hanging out when there's time in their schedules, leading to a bit of gossip from the press, but both know its strictly platonic. Besides, Lina knows Ji-Hye has the biggest fangirl crush on Hongbin, which she thinks is the funniest and cutest thing ever.

TRAINING BACKGROUND — Lina joined 1C Entertainment in 2010 and trained for three years. Her first year of training, she was actually very reserved and quiet, feeling very out of her depth as she realized that her experience with school musicals and choir meant nothing against people who had been training much longer and harder than she had. So she threw herself into her work, staying up late at night dancing only to wake up before sunrise the next morning to practice vocal warmups. Her strongest point was definitely her voice, which she took a great amount of pride in. When it came to dancing, however, Lina realized she needed a ton of work. A ton. A TON. So she worked.
Eventually she also realized that she would need an idol persona, and immediately chose the one that felt the most natural - smiling, being happy. Being loud was a bit harder considering her size, but she's thrown as much of herself into her idol persona as she has into her singing. She also continued her passion for acting, even as a trainee and later after Lilac's disbandment, taking every oppurtunity she could to get her name out there.

STAGE NAME — Lina

PLOTLINE — Lead Vocal / Face of the Group (can be changed to whatever you think fits though, I'm not overly picky...)

PERSONA — The Loudmouth

TWINS —

+ VOCAL min from st.319

+ DANCE — tiffany from snsd (when choreographed), also this chick (when not choreographed)- she isn't terribly bad at choreographed dance, she pulled it off well enough to debut and she works very hard at it. but free style? hell no.

+ TALKING hani from EXID

SPECIAL TALENTS —

+ variety skills (keeping a conversation going, keeping things interesting)
+ acting

SOLO ACTIVITIES —

+ minor speaking role in a drama // 2013 // a small, made for online stream drama called Just Like Magic, where she said around 3 words

+ lead role in a low-budget drama // 2013 (right after disbandment) // Somewhere Near You, playing a high school student in a romantic comedy that didn't gain much press but got good reviews

+ supporting character in a movie // 2015 // a dramatic comedy called The Butterfly Effect, where she plays the main character's ambitious and slightly ty best friend - received several good reviews, she also sang a song, "Fools Like Us" for the OST
+ spring awakening // 2015 // first foray into high-end musical theatre, winning the role of Wendla. needless to say, she is ecstatic

SCANDALS — why is she hated by the public? what skeletons does she hide?

disrespectful rookie // 2013 // her bluntness and sometimes seemingly tactless way of speaking made some netizens see her as rude and impertinent, especially from a rookie group from a "nugu" company.
+ bullying rumors // 2013 // with her "give-it-all-you've-got" nature, Lina did not get along very well with HyoJin, who she saw as unwilling to work as hard as she could. She therefore let HyoJin know exactly what she was thinking, often suggesting that she could "try to train harder", and sometimes even verbally abusing her on bad or challenging days. Her contempt and eventual dislike for the girl wasn't a very well kept secret, and when HyoJin finally killed herself, some netizens argued that Lina's "bullying" among other things was what drove her to suicide
+ dating/sleeping around rumors // 2014 // during the period between disbandment and eventual comeback, Lina remained well out of the spotlight, but still remained in the peripheral of the public eye with her acting career. There were only two times that she was the subject of dating rumors; once rumored to be dating VIXX's Hongbin, and another rumored to have slept with the director of Somewhere Near You. Both were obviously false rumors, and regarded as such, just rumors created by bored netizens. Lina found them hilarious, if a little ridiculous.
+ depression and disordered eating // 2013, continuing on to the present // as stated before, Lina actually does have a lot of insecurities. One of them is her preoccupation with size - the idea that she is small, yet she has to have such a big personality. Her insecurities stem from that idea, that as an idol her role and her persona is loud and bright and beautiful, yet at the same time she has to be physically small and cute and thin to fit the standards of beauty that are set for her, either by society or herself. As a result, Lina suppresses a lot of her more uncomfortable emotions, like anger or sadness, in order to maintain that persona, even while in private. These feelings then make themselves known in her more unhealthy behaviors, such as her perfectionism or the need to constantly be training or improving (as well as her contempt for those she thinks isn't working hard enough). One other behavior has also been disordered eating, which has persisted on and off since she found out she was going to debut. In an effort to lose weight, Lina has restricted, excessively exercised, and purged. Though she did eventually taper off these behaviors after disbandment, they are starting to reappear again with the stress of coming back as Toxic. She is also on medication for anxiety and depression, but keeps it a secret from most of her other members and the fans.

EXO's Kim Jongdae +

BACK UP LOVE INTEREST — Lee Sungyeol

NICKNAMES —

+ Chen/Chen-Chen // its his stage name, the name his fans use and kind of a gentle way of teasing him, making it sound childish
+ Dae // just a casual sort of almost petname, used usually when in a hurry or its an extra serious situation where Lina wants the reminder of their closeness

POSITIVE TRAITS — gentle, hard-working, caring, playful, respectful

NEGATIVE TRAITS — a bit of a flirt, whining, stubborn

PERSONALITY — Jongdae is the lead vocalist of EXO-M, a hard-working, dedicated performer and a genuinely good person overall. Known for his kind-hearted and gentle nature, Jongdae is often seen to be looking out for his fellow EXO members and his fans. He's generally easy-going and laid back, prone to often joking around as part of the Beagle Line with members Baekhyun and Chanyeol, Jongdae definitely has a playful and mischevious side that might come across to some as slightly childish (especially due to his habit of playfully whining "whyyyy") - however, he also has displayed signs of maturity and responsibilty in the past, again often taking care of his fellow members and knowing when to stop a joke in case it becomes problematic. In this way, Jongdae seems very likeable and gets along well with mostly everyone around him. He's very committed to being the best vocalist he can be, once stating that his dream is to be the best singer in the world, and often states that he feels like he still has a lot to learn.
Jongdae also has a slightly flirty nature, one that likes to joke around (labelled as a "troll" by some fans). This is mainly the persona he undertakes as Chen, onstage, the person he presents to his fans - cheerful, sweet, playful. However, he can also sometimes be more subdued (more offstage than on), allowing him to also be respectful and caring. While he is a very good and likeable person, he also seems like a hard person to get to know intimately, as he also appears to be very private and maybe even slightly reserved when it comes to very serious things or negative emotions. Such things he has certainly never shown to the public, and those around him may also be unaware of his reservations, believing that the Jongdae he presents is the truest level of depth he possesses.

RELATIONSHIP — They met through Ji-Hye, actually. In 2012, the coffeeshop that Lina's best friend works at gained a contract with SM Entertainment to be a "refreshment provider" for their artists. Therefore, Ji-Hye was often sent over to the SM building to provide coffee for various SM groups, and got to know them on a semi-regular basis, much to her delight. She eventually became familiar with several of them, including Jongdae, who always made a point of being polite and respectful to her as part of the staff. At one point, Ji-Hye asked him if he had any time in his schedule, if he would like to take a break and hang out at the main coffee shop without any fear of crazy fans, an offer he gratefully took.

At this time, Lina was still at trainee, but visited Ji-Hye often to talk to her about her day and hear what the famous SM artists were up to. She had always admired Kim Jongdae as EXO-M's Chen, for his vocals and his stage personality, but it was certainly a surprise to be introduced to him by Ji-Hye, who knew that Lina would appreciate an encounter with an idol.

In the beginning, Lina and Jongdae were polite and formal with each other. Jongdae seemed interested in the fact that Lina was a trainee (though he'd never heard of 1C Entertainment), and encouraged her to work hard and do her best. Lina in turn congratulated him on EXO's debut and wished him luck for the future.

It wasn't until a year later with the debut of Lilac that they encountered each other again, this time Jongdae seeking Lina out to congratulate her. Flattered that he had remembered her after all this time, Lina exchanged numbers with him and they began texting back and forth, even during his busy schedules and the eventual disbandment of Lilac, developing a close (if slightly secret) friendship.

Due to their similarities in nature and attitudes towards work in life, they get along pretty swimmingly. Lina has a tendency to be more blunt and immature than Jongdae, whereas he's more likely to be more reserved with his true feelings rather than cause waves. Still, the two are very good friends, and often hang out together between schedules, whether its simply playing music together or going to get something to eat. Lina has opened up to Jongdae about her struggles at 1C Entertainment and her wish to eventually leave and become a musical actress, but she has yet to tell him about all the skeletons in her closet. Likewise, Lina often has the feeling that Jongdae doesn't tell her when he's feeling upset.

Lina is aware that her feelings for Jongdae extend beyond simple friendship - she's fascinated by him when he laughs, always aware of his touch, craving the moments of skinship and the light-hearted feeling in her chest every time he smiles at her. At the same time, she's also very aware of her own precarious position in the industry, and the fact that a relationship would jeopordize both of their careers - something she would never, ever want to do to him. Her own self-esteem plays into this as well. She has no way of knowing if he feels the same way, and thinks that even if he did, he could do so much better than someone like her.

INTERVIEW +

FOR ORIGINAL MEMBERS:

What did you think of Lilac's concept? Did you like it or hate it, or did you find it easy?:

Really, I didn't have much of a problem with it. Cutesy, I can do, you just bat your eyelashes a ton and pitch your voice up really high. Tilt your head. Hand under chin, see? I kind of liked it, I guess, but whether I liked it or not didn't really matter, as long as I could practice and pull it off well.

And if you liked that, ha, you should see my "Gwiyomi"!

How did you feel about Snow?:
Snow...okay, look, Snow and I had our differences, all right? And I know you're not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but...I don't know, I just feel like she had so much potential but wasn't willing to work for it, you know? As idols, we're living the life that hundreds of people, trainees, people who audition for companies every year, they can only dream about doing what we're doing. So, call me crazy, but I think that means we should always strive to do our very best, because of that. And Snow...Snow just couldn't give her all. So yes, I got frustrated at her quite a bit, and maybe I said things I shouldn't have, because, as you may have noticed, I tend to speak before I think. And I do regret some of the things I said, but I can't apologize for feeling like she never gave one-hundred percent.

Were you glad she left the group?:
Want me to be honest? Yeah. I was. There are girls who would give anything and everything, and some who have given everything, to be where she was. And this isn't something you can go into half-heartedly, otherwise you just bring the rest of the group down.

How did you react to the news of her death?:
I cried. Is that surprising?

But even if I struggled...or still struggle...to respect Snow as a performer, I can still mourn her as a person. It was hard, that day. You train with someone, sing with them, eat together, even sleep in the same place. Even if you don't particularly like that person, you can still feel their absence. And I mean, a part of me still feels like maybe I shouldn't have...I could have...

...Snow chose to kill herself. That's the beginning and the end of it. And I'm sorry she's dead, I truly am, but can we move on to the next question?

What did you think about the group's disbandment?:
Oh God. I was pissed. I've been with 1C Entertainment for around five years now, and that's like a quarter of my life, you know? And I don't regret it, I wouldn't change anything, but it was just frustrating to find out that despite making it all the way to debut, with all that hard work, suddenly it was like all for nothing. Back to square one, thanks for playing. And I did struggle a bit with that, for a little while after disbandment, it kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth. But I got over it, and now we're back! Making music, which is all that matter nows.

How do you feel about coming back as a group with Toxic? About the new members? Do you like this concept more?:
*laughs* We are "funky fresh", as they say in English. I have absolutely no idea what that even means. But I'm happy to be coming back. I've missed performing, I missed singing very much, and I did miss some of the girls from Lilac too, even though we were all trainees again. As for the new members, we get along okay, I haven't quite formed any opinions on them yet, but as long as we can all work hard together, I'm sure we'll become very close.

Despite everything that has happened in the past, I am very happy, and I hope that our fans will be happy with our efforts and please treat us well!

What have you been up to from Lilac's disbandment to now?:
I have been working on improving my skills as an idol, especially strengthening my voice and dancing skills. Lina 2.0, this time I swear I won't trip onstage! *laughs* But I also enjoyed acting, particularly in Somewhere Near You, it was a wonderful experience I'd love to do again.

FOR NEW MEMBERS:

Are you excited to be part of Toxic? What about being in a group with the old Lilac?:

Have you heard about the groups past rumors?:

How do you feel about the old members?:

ALL MEMBERS:

How do you feel about 1C Entertainment? Do you plan with sticking with Toxic or going solo when your contract ends?

On the record? 1C Entertainment is like my family, they've been good to me, I've spent a quarter of my life under their wing, and I'm eternally grateful to them for giving me the life I'm currently living.

Off the record? 1C is going to crash and burn eventually. They're trying to work us like a big-name company when in reality, 1C is nowhere near to being close to the level of companies like SM or YG. I signed on with 1C because it was the first one to accept me, and I decided to use this oppurtunity to my advantage. Hopefully I've improved enough that when my contract ends I can go to a real player in the industry.

How are your feelings about Toxic in general?
Well, we're certainly not anywhere close to being the next SNSD. A part of me wonders if we're really going to do all that well, what with new rookie members and fans who probably remember how Lilac went. Mm. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see? I do hope we do well, but if we don't...

Let's hope we do well.

How do you feel about everything that is going on? With the unexplained accidents, sightings of "spirits", ect.?:
How do I...overwhelmed, I suppose. We really don't need this on top of everything else. We don't. Whether its ghosts or accidents or someone playing a bunch of pranks, it's not funny, and I hope it stops by the time Toxic actually debuts. It's not funny. It's not. I don't know how much more of it we can take.

Do you believe in ghosts?:
...yes, sometimes. Sometimes I really do think ghosts exist. But then other times I think that we create our own ghosts too? The things we fear the most, the things we want the most always come back to haunt us in the end, whether they're real or imaginary.

NICKNAME — kristy

USERNAME — cakevspie

ACTIVITY RATE — 2 - I don't really have any current stories, but I do check this site often and read a ton. I've been checking the applyfic every day in case of updates.

COMMENTS — tried to make Lina an original, interesting character without going overboard. Feel free to change whatever you feel needs to be changed to fit - wrote her with the idea of the lead vocalist plotline in mind, but she could really go anywhere, I'm not overly picky.
The part about her disordered eating wasn't a cheap shot at dramatics, by the way. As I said before, Lina is an original character, nnot based on me, but that situation is partially inspired by my own recovery from anorexia. My eating disorder was in part affected by the K-pop standard of beauty, and as you stated that your fic is focused a lot on the dark side of the industry, I thought it would fit, as well as giving a depth to her personality. Hope it doesn't seem too out of place, I tried very hard to think about how it might fit her personality, her background, and her situations. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

QUESTIONS — none, really

SCENE REQUESTS
+ airport antics, frantic vocal practicing, cooking experiments in the dorm gone awry
+ the raccoon incident that gave her her nickname - in which, upon finding out that they're not allowed to have a dog, Lina tries to convince their manager to let them have a pet raccoon that's camped out in a tree outside their dorm

+ the pressure of debuting again, along with the accidents, along with the eventual musical role on top of it, leads to a breaking point for Lina, where she breaks down during rehearsal for Spring Awakening (during a highly sensual scene, "I Believe")
eventually she confesses to Jongdae that she believes that HyoJin's suicide was partially her fault, and that she's been terrified of ghosts for so long now

PASSWWORD — ideas for followup songs - "Going Down Burning", "Want"
