First Kiss

Forever and Always
Chapter 3: First Kiss
The next day, Jongin waited for Haeun outside of the house. He glanced at his watch and looked at the door, hoping for Haeun to exit the house.

The door burst open, and Haeun came running out.

He left out a sigh of relief and smiled. “Hurry up! We’re going to be late!” he quickly cycled, and Haeun nodded, following after him.

Things were going on almost as usual as before, and Jongin was already satisfied.

In school, they were given a role in the upcoming university’s musical.

They were cast as side characters and coincidentally, Haeun and Jongin’s characters were lovers in the musical that were ultimately separated.

“Where are you taking me to, Jongin?” she asked. Jongin was bringing her blindlessly around the neighbourhood.

Jongin stopped in front of the boutique and entered. Smiling at the salesgirl, he pointed at the white dress. “I want that one, thank you,” he said.

He chose a white floral dress. A rose attached to the strap of the dress, and a belt attached to it. There were lace on the top and at the end of the dress.

“You’re buying it for me?” Haeun asked.

He nodded. “It’s for the musical. And for these past few days I see you staring at this dress for ages. I didn’t want the salesgirl to be annoyed by you, so I just bought it,” he whispered.

Haeun rolled her eyes and bit back a smile. “Thanks."

She wondered how Jongin felt towards her. Was it the same way she felt towards Jongin?

The feelings were back. She looked at his side profile, cycling beside him while thoughts rushed into her mind.

They met each other, became neighbours. Played with each other everyday. Laughing, smiling, hugging, teasing and playing. It was blissful and simple.

Jongin is a nice guy. He's a gentleman. Always being considerate towards her and protecting her. Teasing her, making her feel so secured and making her heart beat even faster. His gelled up hair and his sharp jawline. His tanned skin and his big eyes that were so mesmerizing and attracting.

The feelings were indeed back, and they were strong.

It was finally the day of the musical, everyone was nervous and excited, especially Haeun.

“Relax, I don’t want to send you to the hospital in the middle of the concert when you have a heart attack,” Jongin joked.

She slapped his arm. “Don’t curse me and I’ll be fine.”

Jongin scanned her from head to toe. “You’re actually really pretty in the dress that I bought for you.” He blurted and smiled. His pulse quickened after blurting out.

Haeun did a curtesy. “Thank you.”

It was finally their turn to be up on stage. Haeun entered from the left side while Jongin entered from the right side.

She couldn’t help but bit back a smile. Jongin looked like a true gentleman, an attractive man in his black suit with his black hair gelled up.

*Yah! Don’t smile! You make me feel like laughing!*

*Sorry. You look dashing in the suit. It’s a compliment.*

*Thank you. I’ll do the curtesy later. It’s your line now, go.*

Haeun closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. “Taebyun, I’m sorry. I’m giving you back this wedding ring.” Haeun bit her lip and she looked away.

Jongin’s eyes widened in shock and he took a step closer to Haeun. “Why?” he asked out, frowning.

“ “I..I.. I’ve been transferred to the military camp to treat patients. I’m going to Vietnam,” she said sadly. “I’ll be going there in three days..”

“Vietnam? There are bombs everywhere! You can’t! You’ll be bombed! You.. You’ll die!” Jongin cried.

She turned to face him and she took in a deep breath shakily. “I don’t want you to live alone by yourself. You should find someone better than me, I’m sorry.”

“We promised we would be together forever and always.” He softened.

Haeun took in a deep breath. “Once I go there, I don’t know when I’ll come back. Maybe fourteen days, maybe sixteen, maybe a year, or maybe.. I won’t even get a chance to come back,” she whispered.  “How can we be even together forever?”

Jongin grabbed her hand and she was startled. She blinked.

“Don’t you think three days is already forever and always?” he asked.

Haeun looked up at him, dumbfounded.

“How long do you want forever to be? A year, ten years, fifty years? A hundred years, or a thousand years will you count that as forever?” He softened, his grip on hers tightening.

Jongin’s acting was great. Or maybe, he wasn’t even acting. It was real. Those tears were real. Those words, were real.

“But, once my illness relapses, I will go, I won’t even have three days,” she whispered, tears forming in her eyes.

“Even if you are gone now, even if you are to die here, we’ve already been through everything, we’ve already been with each other for life,” he said, his voice croaking as those teary eyes gathered.

Haeun smiled.

Jongin grabbed Haeun and hugged her tightly. She buried her head into his chest and held onto his waist tightly.

The audience stood up and applauded.

A student whispered backstage. “That wasn’t in the script, but it was even better!”

“We will be back quite late, hyung!”

It was graduation ceremony, the last day of school.

“1, 2, 3!”

They threw their hats up high in the head.

Everyone was seen taking photographs with one another. Laughters and tears, sadness and happiness filled the entire university.

“Cheers!” Haeun and Jongin joined their classmates together in their party at one of their classmates’ pub his parents owned.

“Don’t drink too much, your heart can’t handle it,” he said. “Just like how it can’t handle me,” he joked.

Haeun almost choked on her drink. “Yeah, my heart really can’t handle how crazy you are.”

Jongin took out her bag. “Have you taken your medicine?”

“Yes, I already did,” she said, taking her bag back from him. “You’re such a grandmother!”

They spent time with their classmates for the last time. Because after a few months, they will be embarking on another journey of their own in the entertainment industry.

“Cheers,” Haeun clinked glasses with Jongin.

“Haeun that’s enough for tonight,” Jongin said as he placed one arm around her shoulder.

She frowned. "Oh come on, it's graduation night, just a few more?" she pleaded.

Jongin bit his lip and sighed. "Fine. Just, don't be drunk."

Haeun continued drinking glasses after glasses, clinking her glass with Jongin and also with their other friends.

Until, she was drunk. But obviously, a drunk person won't admit she's drunk, right?

Haeun was about to gulp one more but Jongin grabbed her arm tightly.

Jongin shook his head. “Give it to me.” He drank it in one shot and placed it on the table which earned the applaud of the classmates at the table as they cooed.

He looked at his watch. “It’s close to 1 in the morning,  do you want to leave now? Hyung would be worried,” he said.

Haeun yawned and rested on his shoulder, nodding.

Haeun wanted to ride her bicycle back home, but Jongin insisted on her riding his.

Haeun could only place her bicycle with her classmate for safekeeping at his pub.

“Ready, let’s go,” he said and cycled up the slope. Haeun wrapped her arms around his waist tightly. He smiled and cycled even faster.

Haeun screamed as she placed both arms up and giggled.

"Yah! Hold tight!" he chided and Haeun chuckled, wrapping her arms around Jongin's waist once more and leaned against his back.

They soon stopped at a bridge and they slowly walked towards the side of the bridge, looking down at the river.

“It feels much better here,” she whispered, taking in a deep breath and she shivered.

Jongin stood beside her, leaning against the bridge.

Haeun opened her arms and spun arounnd, laughing as she stumbled and Jongin quickly held her arrms.

"Thank you," she smiled, her eyes half closed and she hiccupped.

"Dance with me?" she asked. Jongin blinked. "Here?"

Haeun grabbed his arms and spun around him. "Come on!"

She held his hands and closed his eyes, spinning around him. Jongin smiled and looked at her, sighing in content.

"Come on! Jongin!" Haeun frowned and stopped. "Hey. Do a wave."

"What?"

"You know, a body wave?" she said.

"No," he laughed, crossing his arms.

"Jongin. Come on." Haeun pleaded.

Jongin looked around his surroundings and pointed one finger. "Just once."

Haeun nodded excitedly. Jongin looked around once more and did a body wave. He bit his lip, his lean body moving forward then backward, his torso leading the way.

Haeun clapped and laughed. "Once more!"

Jongin, looking at her excited face, did once more and she jumped, laughing.

She went over to the side of the bridge and sighed. She looked up at the night sky. There wasn’t many street lamps at that area, which Haeun could see more stars.

Brighter and clearer.

Jongin followed her and looked down at her.

In her eyes, he saw bright eyes, full of hope.

He slowly reached for her hand and she flinched.

“Don’t be scared,” he whispered, looking at her eyes, his gaze that was so mesmerizing.

“Jongin, I..”

He placed his fingers to her lips. “I know. I know. But did you forget what I said during the concert? It’s true. What all I said, comes from the bottom of my heart. I love you, Haeun. I know it. And I know that as long as I spend my days with you, I have been with you for my whole life, forever,” he whispered.

He leaned down, placing his lips to her forehead. It was a long and soft kiss before he looked down at her lips and smiled.

Haeun chuckled and bit back her smile.

She slowly tip toed and puckered her lips. Jongin blinked in surprise and he laughed, covering his mouth. “Oh my god this is hilarious,” he stifled a laughter.

“Yah! Kim Jongin I’m trying to kiss you!” she shouted.

He laughed and held her hand, nodding. “Alright! Alright!”

He lowered his body, leaning against Haeun, while she pressed her body against the side of the bridge.

Jongin placed both hands on her cheeks. He tilted his head to one side and softly chuckled.

She slowly closed her eyes and Jongin leaned in closer, inching forward as he drew his lips closer and closer to hers carefully.

Finally, he gently pressed his lips against hers.

So that’s love.

When you kiss the person you love, it gives off sparks out of your mind and body.

Her pulse quickens and she felt breathless. But it was, lovely.

Her hands travel up to his arms and she kissed him back.

Jongin nibbled on her bottom lip, deepening in the kiss. He placed one arm on the ledge of the bridge, supporting himself.

Haeun smiled, her hands slowly reaching his neck, wrapping her arms around his and she deepened in the kiss.

Jongin groaned and grabbed her waist even tighter, having the kiss to be more passionate and sweet.

Their minds went fizzy, and all they enjoyed was just their first ever, kiss.

It was blissful. It was, eternal happiness.

Jongin broke the kiss and he opened his eyes, looking at Haeun closely.

He placed his forehead against hers and held her waist safely in his arms.

Haeun looked up at him and she chuckled, her cheeks slowly pinking.

"Was that, your first kiss?" he asked in a teasing manner.

Haeun shyly nodded and she could hear Jongin's deep chuckle.

"That was my first kiss too," he finally said, then kissed the top of her nose.

She turned to face the bridge and Jongin kept his arms around her waist, placing his chin on her shoulder.

She smiled. "If we could just pause this moment."

"We don't need to. We can have many moments like this in the future, right?" he whispered in her ears and sighed contently.

Haeun nodded and closed her eyes, while Jongin kissed her neck softly and she giggled.

They were already contented as long as they have each other.

The presence of each other was the best gift to the other party, and they would spend their life together, forever and always.

The universe is infinite, every star has its own destination. The chances of stars colliding is one in a hundred million and it may not even be possible. But because the universe is infinite, anything is possible.  The only thing humans can do is to hold on to this moment. This moment can be eternity too.
