The first non-date

I'd Climb Walls For You

(Meagan's POV)

After class I ran home to shower.  I then proceeded to frantically sprint around my house trying to find something to wear.  How was I supposed to know what to wear when he didn't tell me where we'd be going??? I decided on a slightly oversized black sweater, jeans, and black boots.  Nice and casual; after all this wasn't a date.

Grabbing my bag, I ran out of my house to get back to the dance studio before 7.  When I arrived he was already there waiting, with earbuds in and the world around him invisible.  I smiled when I saw him; he looked really cute.  Too cute.  It had never really occurred to me before that I had never seen Jungkook wear anything other than clothes to dance in or his ridiculous outfits that he had to wear in his music videos; I never really thought about him having his own sense of style.  He had on black vans and black jeans, with a gray t-shirt and black jacket.  To make it even worse, he had a black beanie on; my ultimate weakness.

"Hello!"  I called, waving to him as I got closer.  He suddenly turned to look down at me, breaking into a huge smile.  God, why did he have to be so much taller than me???

"Hello."  Jungkook greeted back shyly.  "Cute."  He then added, motioning to my outfit.  I felt my stupid cheeks get hot again.

"So, where are we going?"  I asked, hoping he would understand.  Once again, he showed me his phone.

// translation by Namjoon //  I was thinking since we're talking more, we could get translating dictionaries to help us communicate better! (And I'm tired of doing this for the brat!)

I chuckled at Namjoon's comment at the end.

"Sounds good!  Soo book store?"  I asked him.  He nodded and smiled, taking my wrist and pulling me towards the bus stop.  My eyes widened and I tensed up. Who said he could just grab me like that?!  Blushing furiously, I tried swatting him off, but he just laughed childishly, smiling down at me, his eyes scrunching up into the shape of crescent moons and I felt my heart skip a beat.

On the bus ride over, I could feel his arm brushing up against mine.  Even though we both had long sleeves on, I could still feel a tension, and it made my heart race that he was so close to me all of a sudden.  Sure, I could put up with Jungkook high-fiving me at practice every day, and tapping his shoes against mine as we sat across from each other reading text messages.  But this felt different.  With his hand only centimeters away, and the pressure of his shoulder against mine, I felt something different coming from Jungkook.  Like it was trust.  Up until this point he didn't seem to be very open to people except for me.  And even then, he seemed to keep some form of distance.  But now, it was like he finally felt comfortable around me.

Several minutes later, we arrived at the book store.  It wasn't very crowded, which was nice.  We spent about 20 minutes pulling random books off the shelves and laughing at the covers.  At one point, I lost Jungkook only to find him in the manga section of all places.

"You like anime?"  I asked, walking up behind him and peering over at the book in his hands.  He nodded shyly but excitedly.

"I do too!  I love this kind of stuff."  I beamed up at him.  His face relaxed and he smiled warmly.  It was like he was relieved we both liked the same thing.

Before I even knew it, we were sitting on the floor, backs against the shelves, sharing a book.  We flipped through the manga pages together, and even though I knew Jungkook couldn't read the English, he was enjoying the artwork.  A few times I stole glances up at him, and my heart melted at how peaceful he looked at this moment.  He probably never had time to enjoy the stuff he loved back home because of his busy schedule. The time slowly passed, and I didn't stop him from reading.  Before long several books were piled up around us, and we had read almost the entire series.

Even though I was content with our reading, eventually i became uncomfortable sitting on the floor for so long.  Yawning, I stood up and put our books back on the shelf.  "Dictionaries."  I said firmly, clearing my throat.  Jungkook, followed me through the store looking for them.  Luckily, we were both able to find exactly what we needed: I found an English to Korean dictionary and Jungkook found the opposite.

We bought them, and then sat at a table, and spent about an hour writing cute notes to each other with our dictionaries, every now and then getting nods from the other to verify what we were writing made sense.  At one point, Jungkook wrote now I can text you without needing Namjoon's help!  I smiled up at him.

"Yeah!"  I cheered.  He always looked so happy just to be smiling at me.

The ride home on the bus was relaxing.  The faint glow of the city lights made me feel drowsy, and I didn't realize that I had begun to doze off.  Foolishly, I let sleep overcome me, and my head lightly rested on Jungkook's shoulder.  He obviously didn't mind, because about 20 minutes later, he gently tapped me signaling it was time to get off.  Once outside of our dance studio, I stood with my back to him.

"Thanks."  He said, his tone warm.

"No thank you!  I had a great time today."  I said, finally turning to face him.  He had the most content look on his face, and in the dull glow of the street lights his cheeks were tinted pink.  I wanted to say more, but I knew speaking in fluent English to him wouldn't do any good.  So we just said our casual goodbyes, and I showed myself home; luckily the walk to my house from the studio was only about 5 minutes.

Once in bed, I smiled into my pillow.  Not bad for a first non-date.

-----

Hi sorry this chapter was super long!!!  Also I wanted to explain I know that using a translating dictionary doesn't work quite like that and it would actually require more studying to understand how both languages work.  But for the sake of making this story easier to tell, I went with that for how you guys are going to temporarily solve your communication issue!!

Thank you!
