Where Dreams Can Last

Once Upon A Time... (on hiatus)

He couldn’t help but feel lost. Yes, Kim Heechul was lost in thoughts. He was known for being a good mechanic, but it was strange how this one thing wasn’t making things click. This one thing from him wasn’t making sense to him. All he wanted to do was fix this one thing for the man he was really attracted to. But, why was he so determined to do such a thing? It’s not like Hangeng meant anything big to him. Even though he liked him, that didn’t really mean anything.

The Prime Minister’s son was most likely straight and was into girls like his beloved stepsisters he really despised. He didn’t want to think like this—he wanted to believe the man liked him. But that almost seemed too good to be true. He’s a handsome young man who’d probably want a beautiful young woman for a wife.

Besides, males can’t get pregnant. The Prime Minister probably wanted a grandchild.

Heechul groaned and set the tablet down gently, being angered by the fact that he had no way to fix it. There were times where it would turn on for him, but when he tried inserting a memory card in there and went to place something in there, the thing crashed! It completely went black and didn’t turn on until twenty minutes passed of just holding the power button.

This really did for him.

He had been determined to fix the thing and Hangeng had gone to him—Hangeng had believed he really was one of the best mechanics. He had believed in him, but Heechul didn’t believe in himself. It wasn’t like he was going to get some prize after this. If he was going to get paid, the money wouldn't be going to him at all. It would all go his stepfamily.

Heechul just sat there at the counter as he started getting more and more frustrated as the many seconds passed. He had been too angered he hadn't acknowledged the other presence in the booth. He didn't realize until he heard a small tap on the counter.

He looked at the counter and wasn't too surprised that there was a tablet there. He looked up at the customer and was definitely astonished. In front of him was a beautiful young man that could be easily mistaken as a woman. He had flawless snow white skin, big black sparkling doe eyes, pretty pink lips, and raven hair.

"Hello, sir. Will this be all?" Heechul broke the silence, expecting a reply. The beautiful being merely nodded which confused Heechul.

He got the receipt and everything, however when he got paid by the man, be found money however there was more than the actually amount of what the tablet cost. Not only that, but the young man hadn't taken the tablet yet.

Heechul raised an eyebrow. "What's this?"

The beautiful young man took a notepad and pencil from his black messenger bag and wrote something on the paper before ripping it and placing it on the stack of dollars. It said, 'The tablet and extra money is for you. Accept it, please.'

"Huh?" Heechul couldn't comprehend to what this beautiful young man was doing. He didn't understand any of this.

The young man blushed and wrote something on his notepad before ripping it out of the notepad and placing it on the counter. It said, 'This money is for your employeer and yourself.'

Heechul raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms in suspicion. "Um...I don't think I understand. How do you know I'm employed? Why do you think I don't own this shop myself?"

The man shrugged and wrote something else on another piece of paper and placed it on the counter after ripping it out of the notepad. It said, 'I am no psychic, but I see and notice things. This was easy.'

Heechul couldn't tell at first if this beautiful young man was deaf or not. He didn't want to be rude and ask, but when he had thought it was true, he found out he was wrong. This man knew exactly what he was saying. He just couldn't reply.

He's never met anyone who was mute.

First time for everything, Heechul thought in his head.

"What do you mean this tablet is for me? You had to have bought it for a reason." Heechul said,  confused to what this man was writing in his notepad.

The young man took a while to write this next note. He then ripped it out and placed it on the counter,  it said, 'I could tell the one you have isn't working, have this one instead. We may be strangers and know nothing about each other, but I think we could be good friends.'

Heechul couldn't help but feel somewhat delighted that someone was being so kind to him when he was facing through some troubles. He smiled as he looked at the beautiful young man.

"I think we could." Heechul said as he sighed deeply and thanked the beautiful young man.

The young man left one last note before leaving, it said, 'Here's my number, call me anytime. Don't be afraid to vent to a friend. Bye.'

As the young man left, Heechul took all the notes and folded them as he placed them in his pocket. He placed the two tablets in his messenger bag before heading home.

He realized there were some things he couldn't fix.

~~~
The beautiful young man who had just exited the shop full of electronics, he made his way towards the crowded sidewalk where everyone was passing by trying to get to places from work, home, or stores and shops nearby.
That wasn't Jaejoong's intentions though.
He was going to head home.
Home was different for everyone and he knew home wasn't like what many people walking with him had. He didn't have anyone to go home to. At least not anyone who actually cared about him.
He didn't understand why his dear mother was so rude to him. He remebered her always being there and he could recall good times as well, but he just didn't know how anyone could turn so bitter through years.
His mother, Boa, was always working. She had been since he was fourteen and then she stopped and started making and persuading Jaejoong to start doing things at quite a very young age. He started doing many jobs, school being something his mother had convinced him to forget about.
She rarely gave him opportunities to do anything. She always told him that he basically owed her for all the times she's taken care of him. She had been able to get into his head and make it seem as if he was in debt with his very own mother.
Jaejoong has always been mute ever since he could remember and his mother merely explained that he was in a bad accident and the doctors couldn't save his voice or the small memory he had loss of the accident.
It made him feel saddened with the fact that he couldn't even remember the voice that was once his. He wished he could, but it nearly seemed as if all his memories from that time had been blocked or erased. His mother wouldn't even tell him anything.
He had gotten used to writing than talking since he could only do one of those things. His mother used his voice for an example to not continue on with school. She had said that they'd degrade him and never appreciate him because he couldn't respond to them.
Jaejoong had been touched by music and he knew he wanted everything to do with it. He had found an abandoned music box with scale designs. He had played the little music box and hid it from his mother. She never liked him getting anything without her approval.
He wanted to sing, but he didn't have his voice anymore and therefore that dream was far from coming true. If only everyone knew how much be desperately wanted to. He cried every time he opened his mouth and tried to speak and nothing came out.
He felt nearly useless for not having a voice.
As he continued walking, he looked up and noticed a handsome young man was staring at him. The young man had tanned skin and brown almond shaped eyes. He had a nice facial structure and he looked somewhat cold and distant. He wore black from head and to toe and when Jaejoong looked away, the man stopped and contiuned staring at him.
Jaejoong gulped and kept his head down as he continued walking until he was sure enough that he was farther away from the handsome young male. He didn't know who the man was, but surely they wouldn't see each other again. The chances of that was one in a million. Besides, the man would surely forget Jaejoong.
Right?
Well, they were both wrong about that.
Jaejoong arrived at home. He lived in a small apartment in a small apartment complex next to a grocery store and liquor store. His mother was surely inside doing something Jaejoong wasn't aware of like always. When he entered the apartment his mother was at the small circular dining table writing something down.
Boa didn't raise her head up when she talked to him. "Hello Jae, how was the walk?"
Jaejoong gulped and took his small sticky notes and pen from his pocket and wrote down, 'It was fine,' and gave it to her before heading towards the tiny hallway showing two rooms with bathrooms.
"Don't go out anymore tonight, Jae." Boa said, before continuing writing whatever she was writing down.
Jaejoong sighed and made his way to the room on the left that belonged to him. His room was small and was only able to fit a bed, bathroom, dresser, and closet. His mother's room was a bit bigger and she did have more stuff than he had. He didn't mind since he never had a bunch of stuff.
All he had that made him happy was the little music box that was still full of life. That seemed to be his only friend and purpose of life. He had his phone too but no numbers besides his mother's. He didn't know if the young man from the electronic shop would call, but he sure hoped so.
He surely hoped that things would turn out fine
Perhaps he'd have more friends.
Perhaps his mother would love him or act like it.
Perhaps he'd get into music some way.
Perhaps he'd meet someone.
They were all dreams and wishes of his he dearly believed in. He knew there was some way dreams could come true. Perhaps he didn't know how, but he knew they did. And there had to be way where they could last forever.
