As Mad As a Hatter

Once Upon A Time... (on hiatus)

He continued staring at her with widened eyes. He didn't know what was going in her mind precisely, but he was certain none of it was good. He knew who she was and what she did. He knew everything and he wasn't the only one. He knew by the smirk on her face that she was not up to any good at this exact moment. There was a plan going on in her head and she knew that he was aware of it.

"My, where are your manners? Why do I bother speaking when I won't get a response?" Hyuna asked with an insulted facial expression as she placed a hand on her chest.

Ryeowook glared at her with bitterness and hate. "I will never respect you or your unbearable minions, you witch!"

Hyuna glared at him and raised her right eyebrow. "You dare disrespect me? You are aware that I hold way more status than you, right? You dare speak that way to a queen?"

"You're no queen to me, you tyrant! King Kim Bum was enchanted by a spell of yours! He would've never married you when he was already in love and grieving." Ryeowook said with gritted teeth.

Hyuna rose from where she sat and looked down at him. "In our world and in this one, you're powerless."

"You won't get away with this!" Ryeowook shouted as he rose from his seat. Seconds afterwards, his arms were being held by two security guards.

Hyuna crossed her arms and shook her head as her smirk widened while looking at the young male. "Oh Ryeowook, you never learn do you?" She looked at the two guards with a saddened smile. She cleared and spoke, "Please take him to his room until he's stabilized. Thank you." She turned away and left.

                                                ~~~
"Don't you understand a thing, you fools! I asked for red ones, red I say!" The Queen of Hearts shouted as she paced back and forth as her henchmen made of cards stood in fear. They hadn't listened to their queen's orders like they should've.
"Oh, Your Majesty, please spare us! We didn't meant to!" One card man with six red hearts exclaimed in fear.
"Oh, please, Your Grace! I-it was a small mistake!" One card with ten black black spades said with less fear.
The Queen of Hearts stopped and looked at them in danger and hate. "How dare you beg for forgiveness when you caused the wrong doing! Now look at my garden! What do I see? WHITE ROSES! I want this fixed instant-"
Ryeowook, being a small child, chimed in on the conversation in curiosity of the queen's anger. "Why are you so angry, madame?"
The Queen of Hearts turned back to look at the small boy's figure with narrowed eyes. She sighed deeply and tilted her head to the left. "Well, how would you like it if none of your subjects followed your orders, hm?"
"If you don't like white so much...You could always paint them red!" Ryeowook exclaimed happily as he thought of painting. He enjoyed painting things.
The Queen of Hearts gasped in horror. "Paint them, you say? Oh what an absurd idea to think of! Completely foolish and terrible! You must be as mad as a hatter, child!"
Ryeowook sat on his hard, cold bed as he hugged his knees tightly while his memories kept flowing inside of his head. He couldn't help but miss everything from his home. He even missed the people in town that called him crazy or his dear mother who never believed him. He would always yearn to head back to Wonderland though. How much he missed he could be there in the land where he truly belonged.
He missed all of his friends from his home.
As he stared at the ground, he didn't realize there was another presence in the room. It wasn't until he heard light footsteps in when he looked directly at the utter darkness. He knew that there was someone there and he smiled happily. He always knew who lurked in the shadows ever since he came on this unknown world.
Ryeowook jumped off his cold met and embraced the figure that lurked in the shadows. As Ryeowook had done, the figure belonging to a male hugged the shorter male back and rubbed his back while speaking soothing words softly.
The younger pulled away and looked at the young man. "Oh, I'm so glad you're back! It feels like it's been years!"
The shadowy figure chuckled lightly as he placed a hand upon Ryeowook's left cheek. "Oh, Wookie...It feels like forever. What has happened since I've been gone?"
"She came! Hyuna came here." Ryeowook whispered.
The shadowy figure took a small step back. He asked in astonishment, "Why was she here? Did she speak to you? She didn't hurt you, right?"
"I sounded crazy in front of everyone—she made it appear as if I have always lost my mind." Ryeowook began softly before recalling the moments earlier when he saw Hyuna bring in a young man. "She brought him."
The shadowy figure tilted his head. "Him? Who?"
"The wolf." Ryeowook whispered as his eyes widened.
"Kyuhyun?! I...I thought he was back in our homeland!" The shadowy figure exclaimed in shock as he placed a hand upon his mouth before removing it instantly. "So he's in the asylum as well?"
Ryeowook nodded. "Yes. I don't understand, though...You haven't seen him, have you?"
The shadowy figure shook his head. "No, my love. I've seen the others and Kyuhyun wasn't one of them. It took a while to scout out Hangeng, but I was able to do so. So she just brought him?"
"Yes...Do you think she had him as some prisoner in her own home?" Ryeowook asked curiously.
"I don't know for sure. It might be that since I know what magic is, so does Hyuna. She remains as the remote while I am a mere shadow that can vanish if I wish." The male said.
Ryeowook placed a hand on the shadowy figure's face with watery eyes. "Do you think we'll ever go back home and to our usual selves?"
"I do not know, Wookie. For now, I was able to send one message per princess."
Ryeowook raised an eyebrow. "Princesses?"
"You know that's what I call them–they're all quite feminine." The shadowy figure explained and continued on, "I hope you don't mind that I placed it under your name."
"Why my name?"
"Hyuna can't know I exist in this world. We're not the only three who are aware of this curse."
"Who else?" Ryeowook asked in shock.
"I know we can't be the only ones. I don't want to think that. Besides, I highly believe Hyuna's minions are well-aware of this curse of hers unlike everyone else." The shadowy male explained.
Ryeowook opened his mouth to say something when he heard footsteps from outside of the room. By the sound of loud clicking, he knew those were the shoes that belonged to women.
"I have to go. She's coming."
"You can sense her?" Ryeowook asked.
The shadowy male nodded his head and sighed deeply before planting a deep kiss upon Ryeowook's lips. "I must leave now, love. I will come back, I promise."
Ryeowook giggled softly. "I know you will." He watched as his beloved turned away and vanished into the complete darkness that used to scare Ryeowook. Now he knew the shadows weren't as terrifying anymore. He jumped when he heard his door open.
He turned to see it was the evil queen herself with crossed arms as she glared at him. For some odd reason, he believed the moment earlier wouldn't be their last meeting for today.
"You know, it ," Hyuna started as she started walking in circles around the young male with a growing smirk. She continued on, "For no one to believe a thing you say."
Ryeowook knew exactly what she was talking about. He went through people calling him crazy his entire life. His own mother wouldn't believe him. Before and after his father's death, he's always dreamed of Wonderland. He's never been to it like he had been able to experience when he had fallen down the rabbit hole. He had always imagined what it would be like. Apparently, the craziness of his vision and the real Wonderland was the similarity.
He knew what it was like when he left Wonderland and no one could comprehend to what he was saying. He was lucid, they just didn't believe in magic and anything unordinary. He did though and when he knew where he belonged, he never wanted to leave Wonderland ever again. He knew what he wanted and he couldn't find it in his small town where everything looked at him as if he was an odd child.
When he had met him, was when he knew he wanted to be in Wonderland forever. His beloved and him were quite young, but they knew what they wanted. Ryeowook knew what he wanted even though he was a small child. He admired the older male who was only a teen at the time. Ryeowook even had dreams of being his beloved's one true love. When Ryeowook was thirteen, he stayed in Wonderland longer than he ever had.
At that moment he spent time with his Wonderland friends. He was happy with them, especially with his one true love whom was a mere shadow now due to some evil tyrant.
Yes. He knew what it was like to be treated like an outsider.
To be thought of anything besides sane.
"It does ." Ryeowook whispered softly.
Hyuna looked at him and chuckled. "Of course you'd know." She immediately changed her facial expression in seconds. From a smirk, she glared at him deadly. "Don't. Get. In. My way."
Ryeowook stared at her with widened eyes as she approached the door to the room. "You won't succeed in this plan of yours. You will be stopped!"
Hyuna burst into laughter and turned to him before leaving, "Your as mad as your lover." She then exited the room, closing the door and locking it.
Ryeowook looked away from the entrance of his little cell and turned to look directly at the darkness where his beloved had vanished. "I'm as mad as you, aren't I, my beloved hatter?"
He continued running through the maze of tall bushes of white roses and white roses that were painted red. He wanted to leave immediately and head back to where it was safe and sound. He knew the kingdom that belonged to the Queen of Hearts and her card-henchmen was too much for him. He continued following the white rabbit.
He was starting to get exhausted from the running and wanted to take a break, but the rabbit wouldn't stop. He didn't want them to get caught by the queen at all. Neither did he. So he continued on and ran behind the bunny. He could feel his legs becoming sore that he wanted to simply fall to the ground as soon as possible.
Once they were farther from the queen's kingdom, Ryeowook thought it would be best to stop now. But of course, the rabbit despised delays and persuaded the young boy to continue on running, so he did. He was getting to the part where he wanted to fall. He hadn't watched his footing and had tripped and fell forward hard with a thud.
When he sat up, he examined his scraped knee and realized the rabbit was rather far from him. In motivation and strength welled up in him, Ryeowook got up and followed the rabbit's trails. He found himself approaching a forest. As he continued walking farther into the forest, he heard music.
There was a red and white house in the shape of a hat with a door and windows, like a regular hat. At the front yard of the house there was a beautiful garden of all sorts of flowers. There was a large white table with many chairs on both sides, one larger chair at the end. On the table were teapots, cups and saucers, plates and bowls, silverware and napkins, and all sorts of varieties of small, fancy food. He noticed there were others having a tea party.
Ryeowook went through the white gate that was in front of the yard and was surprised by the sight he was seeing. There was a grey rabbit sitting at the first chair on the left, a door mouse with a sword at the first chair on the right, twins boys wearing striped clothing sitting across from each other, and the white rabbit sitting at the right side next to one of the striped clothed boys.
He hadn't noticed someone else was also there as well.
Sitting at the larger chair was a young male who looked about four or three years older than Ryeowook. He had raven colored hair that was everywhere and with a green top hat with decorations, brown eyes that shone brightly, and his clothes had a unique style to them. Ryeowook found himself losing his breathe by looking at the handsome teen.
Once the two made eye contact, the teen rose from his seat and made his way towards a Bush of little yellow flowers. He picked one from the bush and made his way towards Ryeowook. Once he did, the two just stared at each other in fascination with each other. It felt like time had froze just for them. It felt...magical.
"Well hello...I don't believe we've met before?" The handsome teen said as he continued staring at the younger male with a wide smile.
Ryeowook giggled and shook his head. "Nope. First meeting...I would've remembered."
"Who could dare forget such a lovely face?" The handsome teen asked, mesmerized by the new guest he's never seen before. He gave the younger the flower.
Ryeowook blushed. "Thank y-you. Its beautiful." He said as he held the yellow flower.
"Not as beautiful as you." The handsome teen replied. He cleared his throat and gestured towards himself and taking off his hat before bowing down. "I am the Mad Hatter of Wonderland. But...my name is Yesung."
Ryeowook bowed as well and introduced himself as well. "I'm Ryeowook. I'm not known as anything here yet."
The young teen chuckled lightly. "You're already known as something to me already. Say, you have nowhere else to go, right?"
"N-" Ryeowook was cut off by the white rabbit.
"We were running away from the Queen of Hearts! He's the one who could beat her! He's the one! The savior of Wonderland!" The white rabbit exclaimed.
Yesung turned from the worried white rabbit to the younger male. "Savior, huh? There's your title in Wonderland."
Ryeowook look anxious and worried of this. "It isn't a problem, is it? I wouldn't want to be a burden!"
"Of course not! I wanted you to stay. I've been told the Savior isn't from Wonderland." Yesung said.
Ryeowook nodded his head sadly. "Unfortunately, my home is in Westeria. Wonderland isn't my home, although...I wish it would be. It'd be lovely to live here."
"Do you think you could be happy here?" Yesung asked curiously.
Ryeowook beamed. "Of course I would! I love it here. No judgement, no fear."
"You can stay forever." Yesung said.
"Really?" Ryeowook asked with widened eyes as Yesung nodded. He thought of all the happiness he could have in Wonderland. "I want to...If I can?"
"You may." Yesung said with a small chuckle and placed a peck upon the younger's forehead. He looked at the younger with a smile. "How would you like to join our tea party?"
Ryeowook giggled. "I'd be honored to." When Yesung held his arm out, Ryeowook placed his arm through it and allowed the teen to lead him towards the table. He couldn't help but smile in joy.
That was his happiness.
He would finally be happy.
