I did a double take. Isn't Sica supposed to be the victim here? Why is she the suspect all of a sudden?
Kyuhyun must've seen the multitude of questions on my face because he explained further, "Jessica disappeared during Mandy Hsu's estimated time of death. No one can account for her and she wouldn't say anything about it."
"Sica's not telling you everything? What makes you say that?" I asked, enraged. Sica and I were convinced that someone out there is after her. Why in the world would she keep something from the very people who could help her? But then, I remember how guilty Jessica looked when Yewon asked her where she was. Where did Jessica go anyway?
"Miss Seo Joohyun, I'm trained in the art of interrogation and I know when a person is keeping something from me," Kyuhyun stared at me intently. "I know your friend is hiding something and I want you to find out what it is."
"What?" Now that took me aback. He wants me to spy on Jessica? On my own friend? More than that - he wants me to help the police solve the case?
I blinked a couple of times, unable to move.
"In return, I'll pretend I never saw anyone jaywalking across 4th and Main Street earlier today," he was smirking again. "And I'll pretend I never saw them run away when I tried to approach them."
"Hey," I raised my index finger. "The reason why I ran from you was because of Sica-unnie's phone call! I thought I already told you about it."
He asked seemingly unscathed by my outburst. He interlaced his fingers, "Do we have a deal, Miss Joohyun?"
I buried my head in my hands. He's letting me slide, but in exchange, I have to work for him. What a blackmailer! It's like choosing between fire and ice; between going into a forest filled with giant anacondas or into the ocean populated with man-eating sharks.
But then again, maybe working with "the Terror" would give me the opportunity to help my friend uncover the mystery behind the threats and the murder.
Maybe this is a good thing, right?
I lifted my head. "Alright, Officer Cho. You have a deal."
