A moment later, I found myself at the riverside, walking beside Kyuhyun. He already called my boss and told her I'd be late. Of course, he had to mention who he is or else my boss wouldn't let me off the hook that easily.
Kyuhyun told me what happened to Han Byul. Apparently, the criminal's gunshot wound is healing in prison. He has to serve ten years for three counts of attempted murder and one count of murder. Kyuhyun also asked about Jessica. But deep inside, I know these weren't the reasons why he's here. When we reached the gates to a small riverside park, I decided to finally voice out what's been bothering me for weeks.
"Officer Cho," I began, addressing him formally. "I don't think we should be seeing each other anymore. Even as friends."
He stopped walking and faced me. A look of confusion crossed his face.
"We should return to our lives before we met each other," I continued. It was true. After the perfume incident at the Chosun Hotel, I only agreed to work with him because my friend was involved in the case. But now... everything's finally over. "The case is closed, so we don't have a reason to be seen together. Especially since your fiancee seems to think..."
"Joohyun," He cut me off. "I broke off the engagement."
When I wasn't able to answer, he repeated, "I broke up with Seulgi. That's why I'm here. To tell you this."
"What?"
"I said I - "
"I heard you," I narrowed my brows. "But why?"
He shrugged. "I don't love her."
Kyuhyun walked over to the railing overlooking the river and leaned against it. I followed suit and we stood there in silence. I glanced up and saw his brown mop-like hair being tousled by a breeze. His face muscles looked relaxed and his eyes no longe
