"I'm so sorry! I'm on my way!"
"Haha, it's okay take your time. I'm not going anywhere." Taeyeon chuckled before hanging up.
"Dang it Jessica! You're such a klutz." Jessica mumbled to herself as she tried to flag down a cab during rush hour. "Just my luck."
Jessica had been anticipating the date Taeyeon promised her ever since the skype call ended. But of course, life had to play games with the girl on the day of the event. Jessica had overslept and only woke up when Taeyeon called asking if she was ready.
While cursing herself for being such a sleepy head, Jessica had stopped, dropped, and rolled off her bed to get into a presentable state for her date. Now she was facing the difficulty of getting a cab.
Just when Jessica was about to throw one of her high heels at a cab that wouldn't stop for her, a black car stopped in front of her.
"Get in." The driver said.
When Jessica realized the person who had said that was Taeyeon, she immediately forgot all her frustration towards the world and was lost in the older girl's smile.
"Jess, get in. I'll get a ticket if I park any longer."
"Huh? Oh sorry!" Jessica said waking up from her thoughts.
As she was putting on her seatbelt she asked the concentrated driver a question. "Why are you here and not at the restaurant?"
"I knew you wouldn't be able to get a cab at this hour so I came to pick you up." Taeyeon replied nonchalantly.
"Thanks..."
"No problem, as my date, you have the privilege to be treated like a princess." Taeyeon said before chuckling.
"Taeyeon, stop you're giving me goosebumps. So corny."
"Sorry. Haha."
The girls were able to arrive at the restaurant with no problems and Jessica was beyond relieved.
"We're here." Taeyeon said before parking the car.
As Jessica was about to open the door to get out, Taeyeon yelled out a "stop!", before running to go open it for her.
"Thanks." Jessica was feeling all these butterflies inside her stomach that wouldn't go away. She wasn't used to Taeyeon treating her like this, she only ever saw it from the sidelines. It was different, a good different.
When the two got settled into their seats and finished ordering their choice of foods, Jessica couldn't help but feel anxious. She felt like this was only going to be a one time thing and tomorrow Taeyeon was going to go back to being her friend, and strictly just that.
"Hey, are you okay?" Taeyeon asked worriedly.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine." Jessica replied with the best smile she could muster.
"Don't look so stiff, just act like you always do around me." Taeyeon suggested.
"I-I...okay you're right." I shouldn't be this nervous, I've known Taeyeon for years now! Get it together Jessica!
"Now, how was your day?"
"It was horrible, up until you picked me up. I can't believe my luck sometimes."
"So I saved a damsel in distress?"
"I guess."
"You were supposed to laugh, I know my jokes aren't funny...but you should pretend to laugh." Taeyeon pouted making Jessica smile.
"Hahahahaha." Jessica laughed sarcastically.
When she stopped teasing Taeyeon, she realized the latter was staring at her.
"Is there something on my face?"
"No." Taeyeon answered without taking her eyes off Jessica.
"Stop staring."
"I can't. I just can't believe it. After years, and years, and years I'm finally having a date with Jessica. The Jessica who I know is going to be so worth it in the end."
Jessica practically glowed after hearing that. The anxiousness she felt about whether or not this date would work were replaced with anticipation, for others to come.
"For years...?" Jessica asked carefully.
She was answered with a cute nod from Taeyeon, before their food came to their table.
Thanking the waiter as he left, the girl's began to eat.
"You know, I've liked you for a long time, too?" Jessica confessed feeling more brave.
"Yeah."
"Y-yeah...? What?"
Jessica was stunned, Taeyeon knew?
"You were obvious and I'm not that thick. It's just at first, I wasn't ready for a relationship...you know because of that bad breakup. Afterwards, when I was ready, you were like my anchor that I was scared to lose. I felt like if I asked you out, there were chances that it wouldn't work and you'd leave me, and I didn't want to risk it."
Jessica slowly digested everything before grabbing the latter's hand.
"You know I wouldn't do that. I'd stay your friend even if it didn't work out."
"Yeah, I know that now. That's why we're here." Taeyeon smiled, pointed at her surroundings.
"Yeah...I guess so. Thanks for taking that risk on me."
"It was my pleasure."
