“Ham Eunjung! Your lawyer is here.” The guard called out. Eunjung was surprised to see her lawyer with another lady seating beside her.
“Tiffany Hwang, I’m Attorney Lee’s associate.” Tiffany said while extending her arm to Eunjung.
“Associate?” Eunjung asked. She wondered whether her lawyer realized that the case is going nowhere and decided to pass the case to her associate. She didn’t like the idea of being passed on like that. She thought Lee Jihyun was different. She must have been wrong.
“My boss.” Qri simply said. “She just came to accompany me because I cannot drive.” Qri showed her injured arm.
Eunjung has this questioning look on her face. She was about to ask why but she held back thinking it’s none of her business.
Qri and Tiffany look at each other before Qri started to narrate about the gun shooting. Eunjung was shock when she heard about the gun shooting incident, was worried about her mother’s condition, and angry that such things had happened to her mother. The two lawyers watch as Eunjung clenched her fists. Qri gave Tiffany a look to which the latter nod and stood up.
“I’ll be outside.”
Eunjung had her head low when she spoke softly, “How is she?”
“She’ll have to stay in the hospital for a week or two. She’s badly injured but she’ll survive. She’s a strong woman.”
Eunjung raised her head and looked at her lawyer. It was the first real emotion she was able to get from her client. Her eyes were glistening with tears.
“I want to see her.”
“I sent an appeal to delay the trial because of the shooting incident and another one for you to visit your mother. Both appeals were denied.”
Eunjung released a dry laugh. What else could she expect? From the very start she knew that she does not have a chance on this case. Lee Jihyun might be a great lawyer but she can’t change the fact that this case has already been decided. There is no hope left for her.
Qri couldn’t help but feel sorry for her client. And what she was about to do will break her first rule of not getting too close and personal with her client. She reached out and held her client’s hand. “She’s stronger contrary to how she looks. At least that is what she told me.” She said smiling. “I know you feel like everything is unfair and you have been deserted. And you might feel like it’s over. It’s not. The trial has not started yet. I need you to be strong and let’s prove to them that they have the wrong person.”
“What for? We both know that this case has already been decided. There is nothing we can do.” Eunjung said while pulling her hand away. She stood up and started to leave.
“Didn’t I tell you that I haven’t lost a case? I intend to keep my record at any cost.” Qri slightly shouted when Eunjung reached the door.
Honestly, Qri is frustrated. She wanted to talk to her client more about the case. She has so many questions especially after she went to the Ham’s residence. She thought because of what happened her client would be angry and want to fight. But it was the opposite. She gave up.
“That was some really cheesy lines you got there.” Tiffany teased when she walked beside Qri.
“Shut up.”

When Eunjung return to her cell, she tried to recall what happened that night.
“What are you doing?” Eunjung asked Patrick when she saw the guy squatting down the table.
Patrick stood up and said, “I see you haven’t fixed this table.”
“Are you going to nag all night or are we going out?”
“Yeah we’re going out.”
“Good. Let’s go. I’m going to call the service repair tomorrow to have that freaking table fix.”
“No need. I’ll fix that tomorrow.”
“No need. I’ll call the repairman tomorrow.”
“I know how to fix a simple table you know.” Eunjung raised her eyebrow. “You don’t believe me? I’ll show you.” Patrick said earning a laugh from Eunjung.
“Hue?” Eunjung asked when they were in front of the club.
“I just thought that it has been a long time since we partied like crazy. I just want to relive those days.”
“Haha. Feeling nostalgic aren’t we, Grandpa?”
“Haha very funny. Admit it, you also miss those times.”
“You mean when we were still young and crazy?”
“Aren’t we still young and crazy?”
“Fine but I’m not carrying your drunken body home.”
The bouncer of the club let Patrick and Eunjung inside Hue. They met a few old friends and some of Patrick’s famous celebrity friends. They were having fun. The drinks just keep on coming.
Patrick called Eunjung and called it a night. Their friends keep on asking them to stay and have more fun. So the two sneaked out to the exit at the back of the club.
Once the music has died down, Patrick has this serious look. “Eunjung, will you go with me?”
“Don’t tell me you still want to go for drinks?” Eunjung asked but Patrick didn’t respond. She noticed that her friend was being serious. “Sure. Where are we going?”
Patrick took a deep breath and said, “Somewhere far. Far away from here.”
“Pat, is something wrong?” Eunjung asked with a serious expression.
Patrick faced Eunjung and said, “Jungie, I…”
“You what?”
“I need..”
“Need to what?”
“I need to pee.” Patrick said then laughing hysterically.
“Yah!” Eunjung shouted then trying to hit Patrick who kept on running. The two were chasing and running like kids. After a while, the two got tired and dizzy and sat on the ground.
“I miss this, Jungie.” Patrick said while looking at the sky. Patrick looked at his friend, “When things are much simpler.”
“Patrick, what’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“We have been friends since we were young. I know when something is bothering you.”
“Jungie it’s nothing I can’t handle.” Eunjung was still giving her friend a suspicious look. Then her vision become blurry and she feel dizzy. “Are you ok?” She heard Patrick asked.
“Yeah, maybe all this running and alcohol made me dizzy.”
“Haha and you are the one calling me old?” Patrick teased.
Patrick’s laughter was the last thing she heard before she out. When she woke up, her body was aching and covered with wounds she didn’t know how she got. Not far away she can see Patrick’s body is lying flat on the ground. She called Patrick but the guy was not moving. Eunjung crawled to Patrick and found her friend almost out of breath and dying.
“Patrick! Patrick!” She was crying. She called for an ambulance but it was too late. Her friend died. And she was covered in wounds she didn’t know how she got.
Eunjung kept on racking her brains trying to remember what happened that night before she passed out. Could she have killed Patrick? But she could never have done that. Then she thought about her mother. She could not understand why that happened to them. Why her mother and their house were gun down. And now her mother is lying in the hospital bed. How she wanted to see her mother.
"She's a strong woman." Eunjung remembered her lawyers words. "I haven't lost a case and I intend to keep my record."
