Strangers
Look BehindEver since I confessed, Krystal and I had not talked to each other for two days. We still went to school together, but the atmosphere was awkward. Of course we used to feel comfortable even if we walk silently, but this time was different. We were somehow embarrassed, unlike our usual behavior.
"Did you two fight?" my mom asked.
"No, we're just tired." I lied.
What else can I tell her? I can't tell her that I fell in love with my best friend and was rejected, right? So, this situation went on and on.
On the fourth day, Krystal finally found this intolerable.
"Myungsoo ah," she said. "I don't like this. The atmosphere between us is just too awkward. I missed those days when we feel comfortable with each other. I..."
"I understand.” I cut her off, not willing to hear her rejection. “I’ll go to school first. Keep safe and go to school quick, will you?” Without giving her another second to talk, I walked away quickly.
I wondered why broken hearts could be further scattered into pieces. Because of my stupid decision, I lost both my best friend and the one I loved. If I could go back to the past, I would never confess. I would just stand behind her back and protect her from any harm. If I had not confessed, at least I could still stay by her side.
