Standing Egg - Keep Going

“I am home!” You chirped kicking off your high heels hearing his footsteps rushing over to the hallway.

“OMMA!” You heard your little son shriek from joy his arms held out wide. Your eyes rounded as you quickly hid the bags you had in your hands behind your back. The little one didn’t seem to notice as he ran over to you and hugged your legs tightly.

“Aigoo, Taehwan-ah. You scared, omma” You ruffled his dark brown hair seeing him tilting his head up to look at you. He grinned towards you only to show off one of his missing front tooth. You couldn’t help but giggle thinking he looked so adorable.

“Taehwan, what did I say to you? You need to give omma some space when she comes home from work” Both you and Taehwan snapped your head towards the source of voice. Baekhyun had folded his arms and leaned against the doorframe a smile stretched on his lips. You noticed how he had already changed into his comfy clothes. He had taken the day off earlier from work today all because it was Taehwan’s birthday today. So he had picked him up from the kindergarten. As for you, you told your son you had been to work. It wasn’t true at all because you had been shopping for his huge surprise today.

Baekhyun pushed himself off the doorframe and walked over to you. His legs were slightly pressed against Taehwan’s back and his chest was pressed against yours. He pecked your lips making you smile like a dork. His hand sneaked behind your back and grabbed the bags. “You distract the little one while I take these with me to his room” he winked and you nodded your head eagerly.

“Omma, what did appa say?” You let go of the bags knowing well Baekhyun had a steady grip on them. With a huge grin on your face you bent down to Taehwan’s level and hoisted him up in your arms.

“Nothing, nothing” You hurriedly said and rushed to the living room. You placed him on the sofa and bent down to his level. “Taehwan” You cooed and he blinked in response giving you a slightly pout. “Will you be a good boy and watch TV while omma do some work?” His pout just increased as his shoulders slouched.

“But omma you said we were going to celebrate my birthday? Have you forgotten?” He made his doe eyes and you couldn’t help but feel sorry. Even if you had everything planned out for him and all you needed was to hold on a bit more. Deep down you wanted to blurt everything out to him.

“Hyerim” Baekhyun made you snap out of your thoughts and look at him standing on the top of the staircase. Since you seemed clueless to him his raised his brows. “The room?” He mentioned while pointing with his thumb. You quickly jolted up from your spot and nodded your head.

“Omma will be right back, okay?” You gave him an unsure smile and rushed over to Baekhyun. “Spend as much time you can with him. I feel so sorry for him” You nibbled on your bottom lip staring down at your son who was watching cartoons with a gloomy expression.

Baekhyun grabbed your shoulders and you stared at him. “Don’t worry and just do what you’re supposed to do okay? And I’ll take care of him” He assured you pecking your forehead and you obliged and headed over to Taehwan’s room.

You stepped inside the room and closed the door behind you seeing how it looked like a mess. With a sigh you spotted the bags you had in your hands earlier lined up against his bed. “Let’s get to work” You muttered, putting your hair up in a bun while folding up the sleeves of your shirt.

“Whoa! Spiderman is so cool, huh? He’s just like appa” Baekhyun mentioned being seated next to his son. He grinned like a fool turning his head towards his son who scowled at him. “What?” He blinked. “Isn’t your appa cool?” Baekhyun batted with his eyelashes and Taehwan shook his head while folding his arms. “Mwoh?” Baekhyun shrieked.

“Spiderman is cooler” Taehwan pointed out and Baekhyun wrinkled his nose rotating his whole body towards his son.

“How so?”

“Because he has super powers and can climb buildings and he saves people” Baekhyun only scoffed in response.

“Appa wakes up at 6 am every day and goes to work and pay the bills. That’s much better than Spiderman” He mumbled under his breath being a bit offended that his son believed Spiderman was cooler. Taehwan chuckled lowly seeing his father being so frustrated over a cartoon character made him laugh.

“Taehwan-ah!” You shouted from the top floor after two whole hours and the two of them snapped their heads in your direction. “Come, come” You hurried them both motioning with your hands.
