Kyumin: Everlasting love (part 2)

Behind the Last Curtain Call

Kyuhyun's POV

I moaned as the radiant sun light shone on my face. I turned to my side to avoid the bright sun and searched for the sleeping figure beside me. I wrapped my hands around something in front of me and could feel the ends of my fingers touch one another. Sungmin should eat more. He’s becoming skinny.

I hugged Sungmin tighter and could feel my arms against one another. Why does he feel so small? With a mental sigh, I allowed my brain to focus and open one eye. The bright sun was blinding my eyes and slowly, I opened both eyes as I noticed the empty presence. I wasn’t hugging Sungmin, instead, I was hugging his pillow.

I let a disappointed sigh. “Aish…” I muttered in frustration as I picked up the pillow and threw it across the room. It landed in front of Sungmin by the bedroom door.

"Yah... You're going to make me spill the drinks," Sungmin chastised me as he approached me with a tray of breakfast.

"Ohhh... oops sorry Min," I said. I was about to get up when he motioned me to sit down.

"Sit your down, I'm going there already," he said as I sat myself by the edge of the bed.

I tried to hide my chuckle but was caught immediately. When it’s just us together or when we’re together with the other members, he has a sailor’s mouth. However, when the camera’s on, he talks politely.

He sat next to me on the side of the bed and glared. "You’re laughing? Don't eat. I'll eat it by myself and make you jealous," Sungmin said in annoyance.

“Aigoo… why is my Sungmin-ie so hot tempered this early in the morning,” I said as I pinched his cheeks. He slapped my hands away as I released another chuckle. "You're too adorable Min. If you won't share, that's fine with me. I’ll watch you while you eat. Just seeing you eat heartily will make full," I continued.

"Cheesy bastard," I heard him mutter as he stirred the cups and gave one to me.

I took a sip and tasted the bitter taste of coffee, yuck. I just sighed as I took another sip from the cup. Sungmin made breakfast for me, I shouldn’t complain. Besides, it doesn’t taste as bad as I remembered it to be. It’s still bitter… yes, but it’s not that bad.

Sungmin fed me a bite of the pancakes and couldn’t help but release a satisfying moan. "It tastes great Min," I complimented him as I took another sip of the coffee. The breakfast tastes great except for the coffee but even the coffee doesn’t taste as bad.

“Thanks Kyu,” he replied with a smile.

He gave me another bite of the pancakes as I asked, "What's the special occasion? Why are you delivering breakfast to me? Did I do something good? Tell me so I can do it again."

Sungmin just laugh as he cut another piece of the pancake. "It’s the complete opposite. Did you forget already?" Sungmin asked as he fed me first and then feeding himself.

“What did I forget about," I asked. It’s neither of our birthdays, nor is it our anniversary.

"It's the opening night for my musical tonight and neither of us have schedules so I was wondering if you want to hang out before the musical. I don’t have rehearsals today since it’s the opening night and we only have to be at the hall an hour before show time so we practically have the whole day for ourselves. I wanted to spend the whole day with you today,” Sungmin replied as he gave me another bite of the pancake.

“Are you asking me out on a date Lee Sungmin?” I asked incredulously. I looked at him with shocked eyes as I covered my mouth comically.

He rolled his eyes and shouted, “Forget it. Heechul, Donghae, Ryeowook and I will find something to do before the musical.”

I got up from the bed and sat behind Sungmin on the other side of the bed. I gave him a back hug and nuzzled my head in between his neck and shoulders. “Are you nervous?” I asked as I kissed his cheeks.

“Yes,” he answered as he grabbed my arm and began to draw invisible lines on my arm.

“Don’t be nervous Min. It’s not as if it’s your first time performing. You’ve performed in front of thousands of people before. You’ve done it many times during our concerts and your other musical,” I tried to comfort him as tightened my embrace.

Sungmin released a soft sigh and replied, “I guess but what if I forget my lines? It’s not like a drama where you can just call it an NG and do a retake. It’s live.”

“I’m sure you know the storyline by now so if you forget a line or a word then just improvise according to the scene and try to stay as close as possible to the script. Have you ever noticed that during concerts I would sometimes belt out a high note even if there wasn’t a high note in the studio version? We’re humans too. We sometimes make mistakes. The key to not being found out is to act as if it was meant to be portrayed that way. No one will notice. Confidence is key,” I explained.

“So what you’re saying is that if I stumble through it, I should make it up as I go?” Sungmin asked in amusement.

“Not all the time but only when you have to,” I clarified.

He just laugh and muttered his thanks.

He turned towards me and was now facing me. I looked into his eyes and was shortly lost in his eyes. I couldn’t help but wonder how I became this lucky. He really is one of a kind. I pinched his cheeks and said, “There’s no need to be nervous. I’ll be there in the audience cheering you on. I just have one question.”

“Yeah… what is it?” Sungmin asked.

“Why are you the one feeding me and giving me breakfast when you’re the one who has a play tonight?” I asked.

"I don’t know. You tell me," he said amused. I took another sip of the coffee as I took the knife and the fork from Sungmin as I fed him.

"I can't wait to see your musical. I'm excited to see a different side to my man. You don’t have a kissing scene right?" I asked as I fed Sungmin another bite.

He just looked away and avoided meeting my eyes as he took his cup and drank from it. "Oh my gosh, I'm sorry Kyu. This is the hot chocolate," he apologized as he took my cup and switched it with his. I saw him scrunch his face as he said, "You already drank half of your drink?"

"So you do have a kissing scene. Why else would you be avoiding the subject?” I said as I released a chuckle. I looked at Sungmin and saw him blush. I kissed his cheeks and continued, “You better think of me during the kiss. To be honest, I thought you forgot that I hate coffee and you worked hard on preparing our breakfast so I just drank it. Surprisingly, it's the best coffee I've ever tasted. I can drink coffee as long as you're the one who made it."

“Cheesy bastard,” I heard him mutter which caused the smile on my face grow bigger.

“Only for you,” I replied as I brought him closer and brought his lips against mine. “Better mark what’s mine before it's too late,” I muttered against his lips.

Before he could speak, I silenced him again as our lips met once again.

After finishing our breakfast, we got ready as fast as we could. We had limited time today because we lost track of time and only had a few hours left before we have to head to the theater hall at 6. I was just glad that we could spend time together, even if it’s only for a while.

A few of the members also don’t have schedules today. Heechul, Donghae, Ryeowook, Sungmin and I don’t have schedules today and we’re all going to see Sungmin’s play.

We didn’t have a lot of time for our date so what Ryeowook suggested to do was go to the roller rink about 20 minutes away from the theater hall and skate there. Heechul, Donghae and Ryeowook were with us for our date because we know that we would attract many fans. If it’s just the two of us, they might catch on and both of us agreed that it’s not the time to tell our fans yet. We were still able to have a few minutes for ourselves when I helped Sungmin skate. Who knew that roller blading is something he is really bad at doing?

When we came out to the other members, the members accepted our relationship and congratulated us. Even though we know that there are many ELF who pair Sungmin and me together, I’m afraid that Sungmin might get bashed on if they find out that we are actually together.

After other artists in our company confirmed their relationship to the public, there were several negative responses and we’re just not ready to tell our fans yet.

“I feel like a chaperone,” Ryeowook mumbled as we found our way to our seats.

“Maybe not a chaperone, it feels more like babysitting two kids on a play date,” Heechul replied with a smirk. “Never mind, make that babysitting four kids on a field trip,” he corrected himself.

I rolled my eyes. Even if they're always teasing, I'm still grateful for their support. “Thank you hyungs,” I said.

“Is the apocalypse coming? I just heard Kyu say ‘thank you’ and ‘hyung’ in one sentence,” Donghae exclaimed as he feigned a shocked expression.

“Yeah…yeah…He might be sick or something,” Ryeowook replied as he touched my forehead.

Heechul clapped his hands in amusement and added, “No… he’s just bit by the love bug.”

The three of them just laughed in amusement as I just rolled my eyes.

“Oh… Hello. How are you doing Mr. and Mrs. Lee” I heard Heechul say.

I looked at their direction and saw Sungmin’s parents. Donghae, Ryeowook and I got up and greeted them.

“Are you guys here to support Sungmin too?” Mrs. Lee asked.

“Of course,” I replied with a smile. Heechul gave me a cautionary look. I continued, “We always support other members whenever we can.”

Mrs. Lee smiled and said, “That’s good to hear.”

“This is Kim Saeun, say your greetings,” Mr. Lee said.

“Hello… My name is Kim Saeun. It’s nice to meet you,” she said as she greeted us.

Heechul, Ryeowook, Donghae and I looked towards her direction and said our greetings.

“She’s a family friend of ours who is also a musical actress,” Mrs. Lee said.

“Nice to meet you,” I said.

The orchestra began to play which indicated that the musical was about to begin.  Throughout the play, I couldn’t ignore the pestering feeling at the back of my mind. I was trying to focus on the musical but I can’t seem to get it out of my mind.

“Are you okay?” Donghae whispered beside me as I saw him stand up.

Is it over already? I looked at him and gave a reassuring nod.

We were heading backstage with Sungmin’s parents and Saeun to meet Sungmin. Once we met Sungmin, he went straight to me and gave me a hug first before giving his parents a hug. This kid is too adorable.

“How was it?” Sungmin asked.

“It was really good son. I’m proud of you,” Mr. Lee said.

“You looked awesome up there,” Donghae commented.

Sungmin looked at me and I just smiled at him. He gave me puzzled look and tried to give him a reassuring smile but I think it turned out as a grimace.

I saw him about to say something when Mrs. Lee spoke and said, “Do you remember Saeun, honey? She’s here to support your musical as well.”

“You were great Min,” Saeun said.

“Thanks,” Sungmin replied as he turned and looked towards me again.

“Since today is your opening night, why don’t we have dinner and celebrate?” Mrs. Lee announced.

“Actually mom, we already made plans,” Sungmin replied.

Mr. Lee glanced at our direction and said, “You guys are welcome to join.”

Heechul, Donghae and Ryeowook didn’t answer and waited for my response.

I looked at Sungmin and said, “It’s okay, you guys can go ahead.”

Sungmin was looking at me as I tried to give him my best reassuring smile as I fight back the tears that were threatning to fall.

“Our manager just texted us that he’s here,” Heechul announced.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come?” Mr. Lee asked.

Heechul, Donghae, Ryeowook and I just said our goodbyes and head outside.

I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder and felt a gentle squeeze. I looked up to see who it was and saw Heechul looking at me.

“Is it time for me to let go?” I asked no one in particular.
