Chapter 1: Voices
EXILE2085: Unknwon
The man emerged from behind the glass door, leaving a puff of black smoke in his wake. He was dressed in full black, from head to toe. His hair, gelled back, slick and neat. The dark brown locks covered in a sheen of shining gel. He looked over at the woman standing by the balcony, her head looking out into the city. She wasn’t the least bit startled by his sudden appearance. Instead, she chose to ignore him, and looked down at the lights below her, in the busy, bustling land. The land she would never truly be a part of. Her blood red lips were sealed, tightly shut, as she let out a deep breath, giving away her emotions. He knew better than to bother her, and so he simply joined her. Placing his arms on the gleaming metal railings, he leaned over as well. His eyes followed hers to the young girl, happily waking on the pavement with her hands in her parents’. He didn’t know what she was thinking or feeling, really. After all, that was her power, not his. However, he decided it lay somewhere in between longing and deciphering. Longing because he felt exactly the same way, and deciphering, because the little girl had unusually blue eyes as compared to the norm’s black ones- something that perhaps indicated some sort of… mutation. His eyes wandered back to hers and he recognized the familiar emptiness, the familiar dark, black hole that indicated she wasn’t really in the now. Rather, she was lost, lost in her own memories. It was at times like these, he was grateful he didn’t have such a stunning memory. Times like this when he was glad he couldn’t recall all the pain, all the shame and the lies he faced in his youth. Rather, he pitied her, not only because she was able to remember every single detail. But also because of the fact that each memory was so vivid, was so clear in her amazing mind. She basically re-lived through every one of those nightmares. Over and over again.

“Yes, dear. It’s silver skin.”

“Mummy’s is a little complicated. In time, you’ll learn about it.”
“What about Kyuri? What does Kyuri have?”
“You, my child, have to find out for yourself. But always remember, no matter what you get, no matter what other people say, you must be thankful. You must appreciate the gift that was given, and you must love and treasure it. Because that makes you special, that makes you unique. It makes you who you are.”
