“Where are you going?” Haeun flimsily reached for Mark. He shot daggers at her and snatched his hand away from her grasp. Haeun pulled her hand back as the tears started pricking the corners of her eyes once again. Mark turned around and just stared at her; panting, nose flaring, blood boiling. “Please say something,” She begged and covered her face as the tears threatened to spill. “Say something,” She said and finally surrendered to the inevitable tears. She quietly sobbed in front of him as the heavy weight started to settle onto her shoulders. “Where am I going?” Mark snapped. “You really want to know where I’m going?” He took one step, no, two steps towards her.

Haeun looked up at him and scooted away from him. “You’re scaring me,” She whispered. “Now you’re being all scared? After what you did to Min you expect me to believe this act you put up?” He scrunched his face with ‘disgust’ written all over his face. “This is bull!” He yelled and slammed his hand on the wall causing a loud noise to echo through the room. “I didn’t do this, I didn’t do that! I’m innocent believe me!” He irritatingly mocked her. “I—I’m not putting up an act, Mark. Please believe me. I have never done anything to Min unlike what she’s saying. I have never even laid a finger on her. Mark, you know me. You know I would never do anything like that,” She pleaded as the tears finally dripped down her cheeks. “Haeun, stop it. You’re making yourself look stupid. I’m not going to stay here and waste time with you while my own girlfriend is at home crying.” He said through gritted teeth.

“You’re all I have left, Mark. I don’t want to lose you.” Haeun tried to stifle a sob as she spoke. A pang of guilt stung his heart when those words left but his hands turned into fists as a gush of anger rushed through him. “You should have thought of that before you acted like a total to Min.” His eyes were flaring and it terrified her. It’s like he wasn’t the person she knew. “I’m sorry that you still believe her,” Haeun walked towards him but he took a step back. He was about to say something when he decided against it at the last minute, turned around and walked towards the door.

“Mark,” She mumbled. He stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around. “What?” He hissed. She was about to say something but nothing came out. She opened but hesitated and decided to just stay quiet. “Stop wasting my time,” He impatiently tapped his foot on the floor. “Please believe me,” She cried out and sat down onto the floor covering her tear stained face with her hands. Mark rolled his eyes and stormed out of the door, slamming the door behind him as he left. He left. Contradicting himself when he made that promise on the night of the terrible accident.

The knives sliced through her heart and pain was crawling in her veins as she took in heavy breaths. He promised he would always be there for her when literally no one else was left. Day after day when she would patiently wait for him to come back to her and go back to the old days when everything was okay but maybe that day will never come. Her heart ache just thinking of how stupid she was to actually think that things would go back to the way they used to be. She missed him. She missed her best friend. She missed how they used to be and how simple life was back then but it seemed as if God was piling up problem after problem complication and hardship everyday causing her to slowly drown and not being seen by the eye of people.

Seconds, minutes maybe even an hour or two passed by after he left her. She was still there sitting at the foot of the door like a puppy waiting for his owner to come back home. But in this case, there was no one else she was waiting for to come home. She was alone now. Her eyes were red and puffy and they stung from all the crying; she couldn’t see anything aside from the blurred and mashed up colours. She couldn’t even think straight. All she could hear was Mark’s voice echoing in her mind and the sounds of her hiccupping.

Haeun quietly stood up and held onto the wall to regain her balance and slowly made her way to the bathroom. She switched the light on revealing a complete stranger in the mirror. Her hair was a mess, eyes all swollen and red with dark spots under them, her cheeks were wet and bright red. She wasn’t herself anymore. “What’s happened to you?” She whispered and the faucet letting the cold water rush down to her cupped hands as they started to pool in them. “I’m so tired,” She mumbled and splashed the water onto her face letting them crawl down her cheeks and down to her neck; sending a chill up her spine. She stepped into the tub and rotated the faucet as the same cold water flowed out and started to fill up.

The cold water started soaked her clothes and pooled around her forearms and it stung. “Help me,” She whispered before closing her eyes and leaning back onto the tub. The water heightened and she just lay there in silence as thoughts started murdering her mind. Fragments of the accident flashed and tears welled up once again. “You promised,” She sobbed.

“I guess he got sick of me,” Haeun shrugged as she stuffed another spoon of soup in . “He would never get tired of you, Haeun. Believe me,” Miyoung smiled and tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear. “Mark loves you,” She added causing a wave of sadness to wipe her out. “He doesn’t believe me. He even mocked me and I’ve never seen him so angry before.” She bit her lip and tried to hold back the tears that had been coming for the past three weeks. Miyoung stayed quiet for a few moments as she carefully thought of what to say.

Miyoung carefully reached out and rested her hand on Haeun’s shoulder. “If it makes you feel better, I know you didn’t do it.” She smiled causing Haeun to look up at her with a puzzled look on her face. “You’re just saying that because you’re biased,” Haeun sighed and dug her face in her hands once again. “Haeun, I know you didn’t do it. I—I was there when Min had that outburst and I saw everything. I—I can talk to Mark if you want—“ “I don’t want to drag you in our problems. Let him be, he’ll probably find out sooner or later,” Haeun sniffled and patted her cheeks with a napkin. “But what if I can help you convince Mark and make him see how much of a his girlfriend actually is?” Miyoung shook her shoulders as she desperately tried to get her to say yes.

“Miyoung, if he didn’t believe me, his best friend, what makes you think he’ll believe you?” Haeun looked at her and waited for an answer. “Well, it wouldn’t hurt to try, right?” Miyoung tilted her head to the side as she thought of the idea. “I don’t think it’s a good thing to do. He’ll probably say I even got you to lie for me.” Haeun nibbled on her lip. She knew deep down that Miyoung could actually help in this situation but then what if this was a chance for them to actually realize that they’re better off without each other? What if they’re just meant to be out of each other’s lives? She didn’t want to force herself into someone’s life.

Miyoung just watched as the broken girl try to hold back the sobs and tears that were aching to come out. “Maybe he needs some space,” Miyoung finally said. Haeun looked up at her and flashed a heartbreakingly sad smile. “We’ve been fighting for so long, I don’t think space can heal this,” She looked away and nibbled onto the inside of her cheek. “Time alone can heal things, Haeun. Don’t lose hope.” Miyoung held onto her hand and gave it a little squeeze. “I—I think you should go,” Haeun suddenly said as she stood up on her feet and took the empty bowl into the kitchen sink. “It’s getting late,” She pointed at the dark sky through the window. “I guess you’re right.” Miyoung stood up and wore her jacket.

“Are you sure you’re going to be alright?” She turned to Haeun. “I’ve been okay for the past two years,” Haeun smiled and turned to go back into her room.

“You came,” Min smiled and saw Mark standing on her porch with his hands stuffed in his pockets. “Of course I came,” He looked up at her with his red puffy eyes. “Come in,” Min took his hand and pulled him into her house and shut the cold out of her house. “Are you okay?” Mark asked her once the door shut. “I think I should be asking you question.” She chuckled and sat him on the couch. “Did you speak to her?” She couldn’t help but ask. “Haeun?” He asked her as she straddled him, resting her hands on his shoulders. “Of course Haeun, who else?” Min his cheek and lowered her face down to his. “It’s been two weeks,” She whispered in his ear and nibbled on his earlobe. “I’ve missed you,” She added.

Mark’s eyes widened as he felt his blood rushing down and his grip on her hips tightened. “Not now, Min.” He whispered and tried to push her off of him. “But,” She pushed him down onto the couch. “I need you,” She smiled and kissed his lips. She started grinding her hips onto his smirking at the feeling of the bump that started to become prominent through his pants. “You know you want it too,” She left butterfly kisses on his jaw earning herself a soft strangled groan from him. “So, what did you tell Haeun?” She rested her head onto his shoulder leaving him breathless. “S—She cried,” was all he could say when his arousal subsided and guilt started to settle in. “I’ve never made her cry before,” He added and ran his hand through his hair. “Please,” Min rolled her eyes and sighed. “You should just stay away from her,” She played with the hairs on the back of his head and kissed up his neck.

“I—I’m not going to stay away from her,” Mark suddenly said causing Min to scoff a little. “I’m not going to leave her just because of this.” He sat up.”And why not?” Min raised her eyebrows at him and tried to push him back down onto the couch. “I—I made a promise. I can’t break that,” He pried her off of him and held his head in his hands. “Promise? Just because of some stupid promise? Come on, Mark that’s so childish!” She chuckled and laced her fingers with his. “It’s not childish; it’s about learning how to keep your words and not being selfish. Just because the both of you can’t get along that doesn’t mean I have to choose between the two of you.” He snapped at her. Min’s eyes widened at his sudden outburst. “S—Sorry,” Mark sighed and wrapped his arms around her waist.

She nodded her head and just stayed silent for a while. “Mark—“ “I have to go,” He suddenly said and stood up as he counted the minutes on his watch. “Where are you going?” Min asked as she followed him to the front door. “I—I have some things to take care of.” He simply answered and wore his shoes, bending down to tie the shoelaces. “What things? It’s been two weeks can’t you stay for a while?” Min pleaded but Mark shook his head. “I’ll try to come back tonight,” He forced a smiled and turned the doorknob. “Okay,” Min sighed and took a step forward to give him a kiss but he was quick and shut the door behind him leaving her surprised.

Mark stuffed his cold hands into his pockets as he walked down the sidewalk. “I knew I should have taken the car with me,” He cringed as the cold started to sting his skin as he walked down the snowy pavement. He dug his chin into his sweater and tried to blow warm air in it to add warmth to his own body when suddenly he heard someone call for him. “Yah! How many times do I have to repeat your name?” Miyoung was approaching him while waving her hand in front of her. “O—Oh, sorry. I didn’t notice your call,” He smiled and slowed down his pace. “Pabo! I called your name like, five times or something,” She shook her head and rubbed her hands together. “How have you been?” Mark twiddled his thumbs together as they continued to walk down the sidewalk. “I’m okay. You?” She turned to him knowing exactly what he would answer.

“I’m fine,” He forced a smile and looked away. Miyoung rolled her eyes as the words left his mouth. Bull. She thought. “Why didn’t you take your car with you? It’s pretty chilly outside.” She tried to change the subject as she remembered what Haeun just told her. “I came from Min’s house,” He scratched the back of his neck causing Miyoung to roll her eyes at the sound of Min’s name. “Of course. The girlfriend.” She chuckled and tried to lighten up the mood. “Have you spoken to Haeun recently?” She suddenly had the urge to test him. “Um,” He thought for a moment and sighed. “No,” He shook his head and looked down at the ground and was suddenly interested with the white covered concrete. “Mwuh? How could you not have spoken to her recently? She seemed so sad this morning,” Miyoung pursed her lips together as she waited for his response.

He turned to her with wide eyes as he tried to think of what to say. “H—How?” He started but was immediately cut off by Miyoung. “Yeah, I paid her a little visit this morning.” She smiled and started skipping down the sidewalk. “Did she not tell you why she was upset?” She asked him but mockingly covered with her gloved hand. “Oh, right. You haven’t spoken to her.” She smiled and tried her best to look embarrassed. “H—How is she?” Mark asked as a bucket of guilt poured over his whole being. “Haeun was… Crying,” Miyoung suddenly slowed down and couldn’t help but feel a little sad about what she had just witnessed a while ago this morning.

“She’s still crying?” Mark’s eyes widened. He felt like he had just been slapped on the face. She’s still crying. “Still? What do you mean still? Do you mean she’s been crying for a long time now? What are you saying?” Miyoung narrowed her eyes at him and tried her best to not snap at him right there. “I—Uh,” “What are you hiding, Mark? Do you have something to do with why she’s been so down lately?” She bombarded him with questions as she tried to provoke the answer out of him. “W—We, um,” “You what? Why was she crying this morning? That poor girl, her eyes were all red and puffy and she’s used up like, two boxes of tissues from the time that I came until the second I left her home.” Miyoung clicked her tongue and shook her head.

“I—I’m so stupid,” Mark dug his fingers in his hair as he desperately tried to think of what to do. “We fought, okay?” He finally let go. “We fought.” He repeated as if he needed to reassure himself that he said it right. “I know,” Miyoung said and stopped walking. “You know?” Mark stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. “That’s why I was at her house this morning. I was there when you weren’t. She was sobbing her eyes out, did you know that?” She looked at him with a hard look. “You didn’t even let her explain her side of the story. All you did was mocked her and left.” She crossed her arms in front of her chest and shifted her weight onto her left leg. “Min is such a ,” She stated. “Watch your mouth, Miyoung.” Mark stepped forward but she didn’t flinch. “Oh, you don’t know? Min is a and you’re just trying to blind yourself from the truth.” She hissed.

Mark was about to yell when she continued speaking. “I know Haeun didn’t do it. Hell, she’s too much of a sweetie to even lay a finger on your so called girlfriend. You’ve known Haeun longer that that Min girl and yet you don’t let your own best friend defend herself. You just shut her out, Mark.” She sighed and stepped back a little. “I—I was there. I saw how Min yelled at her and threatened that she would make sure that you would disappear from her life. Miyoung was practically pleading on the floor to not take you away from her and I was silently telling her to get up and that you aren’t worth it.” She was basically yelling at him now. “You’re too much of a fool to see who is actually genuine to you. You’re blind, Mark.” She shook her head in disbelief. “You let her down so many times just because of some stupid excuse of a girlfriend,”

“I know you’re thinking that Haeun must have sent me to talk to you but in all honesty, this morning before I left her house she was telling me to not tell you what I saw and that I should let you be. I thought it was unfair; unfair on her part. Mark, you’re really dumb for actually siding on Min.” She chuckled and started nibbling on her lip to stop herself from letting out a string of profanities. “Haeun’s been there for you, even up to the time when it really hurt the most.” She sighed and took a few more steps back. “I—I’m so sorry,” Mark hung his head low in shame. “Don’t apologise to me. Go apologise to her.” Miyoung waved her hands in front of her. After a few moments of silence, Mark stood up straight and let out a shaky breath. “I don’t know about you but if you’re really sorry, you’d go to her house right now and say you’re sorry.” Miyoung shook her head and turned to walk to the other direction; leaving Mark under the falling snow. “,” He cursed and quickly his heels and ran towards her house.

“H—Haeun!” He yelled as he frantically knocked onto the wooden door. “Haeun! Open up!” He pressed the doorbell multiple times and went back to harshly knocking on the door. He stepped back as he heard the series of locks unlock behind the door and nearly jumped when he saw the door crack open. “Haeun!” He smiled and pushed the door open. “Mark, you’re causing a scene.” She mumbled and tried to close the door but he wedged his foot in between and pushed it open once again. “Haeun, let me explain!” He closed the door behind him and wrapped his arms around her. “M—Mark, stop.” She said and pushed him off of her. “I’m so sorry, Haeun.” He looked down and held her cheeks in his hands.

“You’ve been crying for so long,” He started and caressed her cheek and tried to wipe away the invisible tears that he thought were still there. “I—I’m so sorry for not believing you.” He smiled and hugged her once again with his head resting onto her shoulder. “S—Stop,” She pushed him off and stepped back a little; wrapping her arms around herself. “Haeun, I—I’m sorry,” He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair out of frustration. “I know I made a mistake. I’m so sorry for not being there for you for the past few months.” He lowered his voice until she realized that he was actually crying. “I—I admit. I was selfish. I forced myself to be blind and stopped the truth from penetrating my mind.” He rubbed the back of his neck as he searched for the right words to say.

He stepped forward but she took a step back causing a pang of pain to shoot through him. She’s afraid of me. He thought. “I—I was stupid,” He harshly wiped the tears away and stepped back a little giving her the space that she needed. “I was inconsiderate too,” He tried to smile but it quickly faded when he realized that tears started flooding her eyes as well. “M—Mark, not now.” She sighed and tried to walk back to her room. “Please, just stay for a while.” He held onto her wrist and pulled her back a little. “I’m sorry, okay?” He hugged her and they stayed quiet for a while trying to think of what to say.

“I—I don’t want to talk to you right now,” She pushed him off and led him to the door. “I—In fact,” She took in a deep breath and exhaled. “I don’t want to talk to you ever.” She closed her eyes as the words stung not only him but it hurt herself as well. She was losing her best friend for s sake. “Don’t say that, Haeun.” He held onto her shoulders and tried to search her face for any sign that would tell him that she was joking. “Haeun, take it back.” He stubbornly said. “I think you should go,” She sighed and opened the door for him. “I won’t leave until you take it back,” He crossed his arms and grumbled as the tears continued to fall down. “Mark,” She started but he only copied her except he said her name. “Please tell me you’ll think about it,” He hugged her once again but this time completely breaking down on her shoulder. “Please tell me we’ll still remain best friends after this.” He cried and hugged her even tighter. “I don’t want to lose you,” He whispered and squeezed his eyes shut.

“Okay,” She sighed. “I’ll think about it.” She said and quickly pulled away from the hug. “G—Good,” He forced a smile and dashed out the door.
