Devolution

Will everything that you knew become nothing?

Despite the sudden pain that flared up around Woohyun’s heart, he just smiled and shrugged his shoulders lightly, leaning over and giving Sunggyu another kiss.

“I just wanted something interesting to anyway, Prince Kim Sunggyu,” he remarked.

He tried to put his lips onto Sunggyu’s again, but the prince had pushed him away.

“Um, W-Woohyun, I just told you that it was only because of the adrenaline, and you just told me that you kissed back because you were bored. Doesn’t that mean we’re using each other?” the elder inquired.

Woohyun sat back and stared at Sunggyu who sat across him, now a little more awkward and certainly less confident than he was a while ago, when the rush was still running through his veins. He raised an eyebrow, finding the prince to actually be very interesting.

“Is there something wrong with us using each other?”

Sunggyu widened his eyes, shocked at the other’s carefree words.

“There isn’t right?” Woohyun continued, happy to see that Sunggyu had no words to respond to him with.

He shook his head, glancing down at his fingers before his eyes shot straight up to look back at Woohyun, who was now getting up and attempting to get the dirt off of his pants. The younger held out his hand for Sunggyu to take, and the prince reluctantly took a hold of the oddly soft fingers. Woohyun proceeded to help get him on his feet, and started walking the other way without saying anything to the other.

“Wait! Woohyun, where are you going?” Sunggyu asked quickly as he walked a little faster to catch up to the younger.

Woohyun turned around with a smirk on his face.

“Some place special—you said something about liking things from BD times, right?”

The prince nodded slowly, a little surprised that Woohyun had remembered the things that he had told him. He didn’t think that the heir was going to be that observant.

Despite knowing the answer to his question before even asking it, the younger’s grin just seemed to grow wider at Sunggyu’s reaction.

“Great, follow me; I have something to give you before you head back to Sunhwan later.”

Even though the elder was a little reluctant, knowing that he didn’t know his way back, he decided to just follow Woohyun. The walk was quiet, and Sunggyu continued to trail behind Woohyun just by a couple of steps. He didn’t walk side by side with Woohyun, and it kind of bothered the younger how different Sunggyu was when he didn’t have a huge adrenaline rush. He was definitely less confident, but he still had this sort of aura around him, and Woohyun didn’t know whether he liked this Sunggyu or the Sunggyu that reminded him so much of Myungsoo that he had seen back at the amusement park or if he liked both.

Someone could definitely tell that Sunggyu was a prince when they first saw him; that was the first thing that Woohyun realized when he met the elder, but when he showed Sunggyu his hideout, he just saw something else in the prince. There was something else in Sunggyu’s eyes, and it just made the elder that much more beautiful. It reminded him a lot of Myungsoo, and maybe that was the reason why he was walking a little more faster to make sure that Sunggyu didn’t catch up too quickly. The last thing he wanted was to be reminded of Kim Myungsoo, but at the same time he couldn’t help but glance back every couple of seconds. Woohyun didn’t know whether he was looking back for Sunggyu or Myungsoo, though.

When Woohyun had said he had something to give to him, Sunggyu expected that it was going to be a small souvenir—something like a book about the BD times or maybe even a CD. He definitely didn’t expect being led to what seemed like the main building for the illegal slave trade between Muhan and Sunhwan.

“What in the world is this?” Sunggyu demanded, the prince side of him accidently coming out more than he’d like. By the flinch that came from the one of young men in front of him, Sunggyu realized that his tone might have been scary to those that were taught to be afraid of authority and listen to their masters.

Woohyun pushed one of the young men forward, this one had hair that was darker than Woohyun’s, but it still wasn’t quite black in color, and somehow the prettiest eyes Sunggyu had ever seen, closer to the prince. He beamed as if he was showcasing an amazing gift to the elder.

“What do you think all of this is?” he responded sarcastically, “It’s my gift to you and your souvenir from Muhan—pick your favorite.”

Woohyun continued to push the rest of the slaves up towards the prince so he could get a better look at them, completely ignoring the slightly disgusted look on the prince’s visage. He walked all the way back to the front of the lineup though, and turned his eyes away from the slaves and back to Sunggyu. Woohyun put his hand on the first slave’s head and ruffled his hair slightly, smirking.

“I think this one would be a pretty obedient. He hasn’t been picked up yet. Because of how pretty he is, he’s up for quite a high price. But I, of course being the leader of all of this, can give him to you for free.”

Sunggyu’s mouth gaped open.

“Slave? You’re going to give me a slave? You know that’s illegal right?” Sunggyu hissed, “People, especially slaves, aren’t supposed to be going from Muhan to Sunhwan and vice versa except for the emperor, the president, and their family. Do you want me to get arrested on the way back? How could you be the leader for all of this? Your parents were the ones who created the law in the first place!”

Woohyun walked leisurely over to Sunggyu and swung his arms out widely, similar to the way he had shown Sunggyu the amusement park and grinned.

“You see this? This is my entire enterprise. It doesn’t really matter whether it’s illegal or not, you know. No one can arrest me or you anyway, so quit your whining. My parents locked me up and forced me to study in that boring old bedroom every day since that airplane accident on the way to BD-Iceland—I-I told you that.”

Sunggyu noticed that something changed in the younger’s eyes when he mentioned the airplane accident that happened a couple of years ago, but it changed back to his snarky look so quickly, he decided not to concern himself with it. It seemed like he had enough to worry about when it came to Nam Woohyun.

“A-Anyways, being in that room for long was boring, and I had to find something to do. Plus, this gives me an easy way to find money and still interact with those from BD times. You know how the slaves are, they actually know more about those times than anyone else here in the Devolution era,” Woohyun continued, ignoring his slip up after mentioning Myungsoo’s accident, “So, do you want to choose now or would you like me to give you more of a tour?”

The prince looked down reluctantly, realizing that Woohyun probably wasn’t going to let him leave unless he had chosen one, but how in the world was he supposed to explain that he was taking a new slave home; he had no idea. Sunggyu glanced up at the line, feeling bad for the young slaves that all stood in a line in front of him, dressed in tattered and dirty clothing, all hoping that they’d be able to escape, or at least be picked up by a kind master. He knew about all about those kinds of masters that abused their slaves, although he was certainly not going to act like that, he couldn’t help but feel like a monster for having to pick one.

He silently cursed Woohyun in his head when he slowly leaned in towards Woohyun and told him which one he wanted. He didn’t really want to take a slave back home, but if he could save one person from a harsh master, it might as well be the expensive boy with the pretty face that Sunggyu just knew other people would just love to take advantage of. Looking at the rest of the slaves, Sunggyu just felt that this skinnier and smaller one was too easy for others to take advantage of, and for some reason it hurt him thinking about this the possibility of this slave he had chosen getting hurt.

Woohyun chuckled after hearing who Sunggyu ended up choosing and turned towards the first slave that he had shown the prince. He just knew that Sunggyu would’ve liked that one. In fact, this one was one of Myungsoo’s favorites as well. The three of them had talked often before the slave’s family had to sell him into a slave-trading company, and of course they had chosen Woohyun’s to do it; Woohyun was known for treating his the best, and of course Woohyun would’ve put his old friend up at a crazy high price so that no one could buy him, not that Sunggyu needed to know that. He was a little reluctant to show Sunggyu his old friend, but it seemed like he was going to be giving the prince everything that reminded him of Myungsoo today.

“Lee Sungyeol, come over here and greet your new master.”

Sorry Sungyeol's appearance was so short! You'll see more of him next chapter^^

Chapter 6: I think that Sunggyu will indeed find dealing with Sungyeol harder than he thought... XD Sungyeol is definitely not the "docile" type. I'm really looking forward to seeing the two of them interact as master and slave ... this story has a really interesting setting for GyuYeol dynamics :3

Also, I hope Sunggyu will let Sungyeol visit his family from time to time... I feel sorry for him ;_;

Chapter 5: Sungyeol! :D Finally! I can't wait to see what he's like in this fanfic, and how his interactions with Sunggyu will be. I feel sorry for him being a slave (I can't imagine Yeol being a slave, he's so rebellious and headstrong) but hopefully Sunggyu will treat him well ><

Chapter 4: Yay, a new (possibly?) GyuYeol fanfic! :D Whatever the final pairings end up being, I'm really looking forward to reading this! (And, i'm already rooting for GyuYeol before Sungyeol has even appeared lol). The first few chapters seem really interesting already, what with the historical setting and the forbidden old world thing :3 Can't wait for the next update--- :)
