Luhan stares out the window, watching the bigger kids run out and play, laughing at each other and throwing the football.
“Luhan, did you clean the floor?”
“Luhan, mother's busy, prepare the rice cooker.”
“Luhan, what are you doing? Didn't you hear me when I told you to clean?”
“Luhan, understand that your mother's very busy and tired, you and I have to help out.”
“Luhan, prepare the bath for Hyerin.”
“Luhan, prepare the milk formula for Hyerin.”
“Luhan, rock Hyerin to sleep.”
His bottom lip trembles, and a tear rolls down his cheek. Exhaling shakily, Luhan balls his fingers into a fist and wipes his tears away. He's strong, he's a big boy, big boys don't cry.
“Luhan, can't you do anything right?”
“Luhan, do it now or I'm going to whip you.”
“Luhan, go change Hyerin.”
“Luhan, prepare dinner.”
“Luhan, watch after Hyerin. Your father and I have to go to dinner.”
“Luhan, I'm disappointed at you. I trusted you to clean the floor, prepare the rice, set out ingredients, and take care of laundry by seven.”
He really wants to go out to play.
“Luhan, walk Hyerin over to her friend's house to play.”
“Luhan, be useful and help with the preparations for Hyerin's birthday.”
“Luhan, I'm sorry, we'll celebrate your birthday another day.”
But he can't go out and play, until all his work his done.
“Luhan, babysit Hyerin.”
“Luhan, go play with Hyerin.”
“Luhan, go help Hyerin and her homework.”
“Luhan, walk Hyerin to the store and buy whatever she wants. Do not use the money for your own goods, got it?”
Work piles on top of other work...
“Luhan, stop doing your work for now. I need you to help Hyerin on math.”
And work and more work...
“Luhan, I thought I made it clear already? Your job is to..”
“Luhan, you little brat, I should give you a whipping...”
Before silence.
“Dad? Mom?”
Oh, they're gone.
“Hyerin?”
She's with them, too.
“Oh. I guess I'll go make dinner.”
Everyday.
