There’s not one fight- inside the school premises or not- that Jimin isn’t somehow at fault. Their house phone would ring almost three times an hour; news of a recent fight involving groups of high school students delivered by the town’s police officer and his mom could only sigh. Jimin would then get home with a black eye and ripped uniform polo. Mrs. Park stopped scolding him after the 8th time they almost spent the night in the police station, trying to outwit the officers and saying Jimin is just an innocent bystander that got caught in between.

Mrs. Park would tend to his wounds at night. They would argue sometimes; always ending with “But it isn’t my fault this time.”  And she regrets not paying attention to him that day, every single time. If she only turned around sooner, her son wouldn’t have met that other kid. Jimin wouldn’t have been how he is now.

Jimin is in his second year in college; his fights more frequent, his wounds more difficult to treat. Friendly brawls from years ago turned to more life-threatening fights amongst different gangs.
