Chapter Two

Night Watches

“-and another thing.” Daehyun continued, and Himchan scoffed on the other end of the phone as his hands were currently elbow deep in water. The muffled screams echoed out from underneath the current, not that Himchan was saying much against that.

“Why are you telling me this?” Himchan commented, unable to tear the Bluetooth off, lest he release the now drowning man. “Don’t you have anyone else to vent your petty frustrations to?”

Daehyun scoffed, his eyes placed only on the woman who was now ordering a coffee. She looked rather official today, with her pencil skirt and button up top. Her hair was even in an official bun, much different than the previous day where she wore it down in a messy fashion.

“We’re not even friends.” Himchan continued, as he continued to drown the man, face first, into the current. Daehyun could hear the gurgling through the phone.

“You’re being rather er than usual today,” was Daehyun half-assed retort as he took another bite of his muffin.

“You make me y,” Himchan sharply replied, feeling the man start to go limp in his grasp. Daehyun made a show of shrugging, even though it was obvious that Himchan couldn’t see it on his side of the conversation.

“Better be careful. You don’t want that floating downstream like a bag of potatoes or baby Jesus.” Daehyun took another bite, his tone casual, as if he were talking about something as innocent as the weather and not a dead body floating in a river.

“Potatoes sink in fresh water. Float in salt. .”

“Yeah well, Lee Donwo will float. Ever seen Lord of the Rings? Arrow in the back? River? Floating.” Daehyun casually stood up as the woman left the building, sunglasses now placed securely onto her face.

“Remorse Daehyun. Time and place.” Himchan stated, giving the dead body a rather pointed expression as he let out an exasperated sigh. He quickly ended the call before he had to hear the other’s witty and clever response.

Daehyun scoffed as the phone abruptly cut off, signifying that Himchan had hung up on him. His legs moved quickly to follow the woman, watching as she turned corner after corner. He rolled his eyes and immediately turned left, cutting into the alley way that most were afraid to enter. Just as he reached the end, he heard the familiar sound of her heels clicking against the ground, signifying that he’d successfully intercepted her walk.

Without another thought, he walked forward, running straight into her. She gasped in surprise, not looking at him, and clutching her bag. He easily caught her and straightened her form, his hand brushing against the side of her bag, placing the bug against the material.

“Sorry,” he apologized in one go. Her eyes instantly snapped up to his like wildfire as she tore her body away and straightened her pose.

“Don’t worry about it.” She replied, not looking at him as she bowed before rushing off again in her pace. He scoffed and immediately slipped into the crowd.

The sound of footsteps was drowned out by the metropolis echo, making following and stalking rather simple. He could see the familiar bun over the crowd, along with the golden shine of a necklace making its way past the crowd.

Stalking wasn’t really his usual mission, but that didn’t make him any less talented at it.

When she finally turned into a building, he came to an abrupt halt, watching as she sat down at a table next to another man who was reading a book. He looked up immediately as she sat down, and their conversation began at that point. He adjusted the Bluetooth device in his ear, easily tuning in their rather boring conversation as he leaned against the side of the building, his gaze moving inside every once in a while as his fingers tapped mindlessly on his phone.

He boredly played games as he waited for something interesting to be spoken, but sadly, nothing of the sort happened, as it was mostly conversation he didn’t care for and nor was it relevant to what he was supposed to be following her for.

“My brother has been attacked quite a few times on the street, and he continuously ditches the bodyguards I assign to him,” Yoo Seoyeon stated as Daehyun tapped a couple more times on the his phone, his expression mostly shadowed by the cap on his head, but his lips were in an apparent frown of misery.

“I think I can handle a 19 year old kid,” the man replied, his voice of superiority made Daehyun give out a scoff.

“Yes,” Seoyeon replied, her voice brisk and doubting. “I’m sure you can. I just want my little brother to be safe so I can stop worrying.”

“I can handle it,” the man repeated, and he could just barely hear the sound of Seoyeon’s noise of doubt.

The sound of shuffling of seats caused him to glance inside once more to see her stand up and offer her hand to the man, who immediately took it in a handshake. “Well then, welcome aboard.”

Daehyun blinked a couple times before rolling his eyes as he waited for her slow to step inside, he gave the food inside a once over, his mouth almost watering.

He really hated everyone right now.

⚉—••—⚇

“All she did today was official boring meetings and hire a bodyguard.” Daehyun repeated, taking a sip of his tea as he put his feet up on the dashboard as he sleepily glanced at the rich ’s house.

“She hired a bodyguard?” Yongguk replied, and Daehyun made a sound of agreement, not really into the conversation. The line went silent for a couple minutes, to which Daehyun showed no interest as he rather liked the sound of flipping papers and a typing keyboard more that Yongguk’s voice. “Keep watch. I’ll get back to you tomorrow about this.”

“Yah! How long?” Daehyun retorted, almost spilling his tea in surprise. He had expected to be able to go home after the phone call.

“All night, obviously.” Yongguk’s voice replied almost immediately. Daehyun could hear the twinge of amusement from the other end.

“Hey! I’m not a babysitter!” Daehyun snapped, his voice dripping with venomous annoyance.

He heard a chuckle from the other end before the line went dead. Daehyun threw the phone on the seat next to him as he gave an annoyed glance at the house while kicking the window of his car in annoyance.

He wasn’t certain how long he sat there, watching as the lights on the block slowly went out, as darkness grew more apparent. The street lamps just barely illuminated the darkness, making it easy to have vision of the house under his watch. The giant gate surrounded it like an impenetrable shield, and he could see the outline of guard dogs next to the fence.

With legs propped up on the dashboard, and his warm tea securely in his palms, the night didn’t wasn’t too uncomfortable, especially since he’d fallen asleep in much worse places. It wasn’t too helpful that sleep wasn’t an option as if he had anything less than deep bags under his eyes, he’d be in even more trouble and he had not desire to deal with Yongguk’s reprimands and more work loads.

He blinked a few times as he stared off into space, just barely listening to the bug he had implanted on the woman’s bag. He could tell that she always kept it near to her, considering it was already 2 am and he could still hear her consistant snoring.

He chuckled into his tea, finding the sound of a woman making such deep snores to be quite amusing. Although after an hour of it, he found annoyance creeping up his spine causing him to turn the volume to a low murmur.

The sound of wheels racing against the pavement made him suddenly jump and bump his head against the window. He clutched his head with a loathing expression, suddenly aware of the sun that was starting to peek out over the horizon. He yawned and stretched his arms before leaning his head back against the seat, reminiscing of days where he wasn’t Yongguk’s little .

A knock against his window snapped him from his stupor and he glanced to Himchan’s unamused face for a moment as the man pointed at the button which locks the door. Daehyun yawned again, and made no motion to unlock the door despite the mouthing motions of curses from Himchan.

When his phone suddenly rang he slightly smirked and held up the device to his ear while looking anywhere but Himchan. “Open the door or so help me god, I will shatter your window.”

“Good morning sunshine.” Daehyun replied simply, blinking as he glanced at the button which could unlock the door.

“I’m warning you. You think I won’t do it. Believe it or not, my time doesn’t revolve around you, so I’d very much like to do other things rather than stand here speaking to you.” Himchan retorted and Daehyun gave a monotonous smirk.

“I’m sure being neck deep up Yongguk’s takes a lot of time,” Daehyun replied simply, blinking as he refilled his cup with tea. He quickly unlocked the door, and Himchan wasted no time in sitting next to him on his new leather seated car, curtsey of Yongguk.

Himchan handed him a black incased folder without a word. Daehyun sighed before grabbing and opening it without a response. He wasted no time sifting through the material for a minute before slowly looking at Himchan.

“What am I? A spy?” Daehyun said, looking at his new license and folder of fake information.

“Yongguk said you might as well earn your pay grade.” Himchan replied, pouring himself some tea.

Daehyun let out an exasperated groan as he stared at the new fake license. “Where did he get this picture?” Daehyun narrowed his eyes at the smiling version of himself in a pose he had never made.

Himchan glanced at it and let out a quiet snicker as he gazed at a smiling Daehyun lifting his hand into a peace sign. “You look nice.” Daehyun instantly frowned, revealing the low pointed expression as he quickly covered the photo from Himchan judgmental leer. A whooshing sound followed as the plastic license scraped against papers.

“So what? I’m going to be a babysitter for some blonde ?” Daehyun retorted, glancing at his new resume of body guarding, including sources of previous jobs Daehyun had never been.

“I’m pretty sure he’s brunette now,” Himchan chuckled, lifting up a picture of the kid from the folder, revealing an unsmiling boy with cute dimples.

“Why can’t Yongguk have you do it? You’re better at being devious.” Daehyun retorted and Himchan’s eyebrows rose with a pointed expression.

“The fact that you just said that with a straight and earnest expression just proves you’re full of ,” was Himchan’s unamused retort, which almost failed in causing Daehyun to reply but quickly decided that it was far to early for a spat with the other.

“So what? I go up to the front door and walk in like, ‘hey wassup’ or what?” Daehyun asked, his voice bitter.

      “Hey wassup?”

“I ain’t no James Bond.” Daehyun retorted and Himchan rolled his eyes in return.

“You just used a double negative.” Himchan replied simply, attention on one of the documents with raised eyebrows.

      Daehyun scoffed. “I know.”

“You’re such an arrogant piece of .” Himchan continued. “Says here you’re married?”

“Huh.” Daehyun returned the raised eyebrows.

“Well. This is probably the only time someone would be stupid enough to marry you, so you might as well make the most of it.” Himchan snickered. “Even if it’s fake.”

“My fake marriage is better than your head up Yongguk’s .” Daehyun monotonously retorted, not quite putting effort into the response.

      “ you.”

“Ohh. Save that language for Yongguk.”

Himchan’s top lip curled and he opened the car door and stepped out without another word. Daehyun’s amused expression instantly disappeared into nothing as he sifted through the papers in silence.

He wasted no time to lift up his phone into a quick text message, his expression never changing.

The reply was almost instant, but Daehyun’s expression didn’t change when he read it.

            You sick .

You and Yongguk are in the middle. Just in case you didn’t get that.

I can screenshot and forward this to him.

Daehyun decided not to reply to that and quickly stepped out of his vehicle, papers in hand as he glanced at the front gate. He took a deep and exasperated sigh at fresh air before glancing at the info once again and walking closer to the gate.

⚉—••—⚇

“Ah, so that’s how it is,” Seoyeon replied after Daehyun’s polite (if he did say so himself) announcement. “It’s such a shame about his accident, he was such a nice guy.” She didn’t look particularly bothered, which he found quite amusing. Nor did she look suspicious about an ‘accident’ happening just a day after hiring (which Daehyun found incredibly sloppy for someone like Yongguk).

He just figured that the boss was either lazy or impatient. Seoyeon obviously wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed if she didn’t find it at all suspicious, no matter just how good a liar he was.

She quickly smiled as she overlooked his information with a rather impressed expression. He was rather impressed too, as his fake resumes were always more of a consummate elegance than his own. He of course, couldn’t include most of his skills into his resume, as they were all illegal or suspicious.

“I do of course have to ask a few questions, as this is my little brother you’ll be protecting.” Seoyeon stated, and Daehyun’s guard suddenly rose as he saw a tiny glint in her eyes. His gaze snapped to the knives all around him in the kitchen, before passing over the knife she suddenly used to cut into an apple. She slowly slid it a safe distance from her resting elbows on the table, but Daehyun couldn’t help but notice that it was a bit closer than necessary.

“Do ask,” Daehyun crossed his fingers as he leaned forward, elbows rested on the table as his chin sat on the bridge of his hands. His eyes flickered slightly, like a glowing candle as they met hers.

“All routine, you see, I can’t allow someone untrusting to watch him over, not to mention live with us,” Seoyeon continued, and Daehyun’s gaze didn’t change even though living wasn’t in his brochure packet, but he made a silent show of annoyance as he lightly scraped the ground with the tip of his shoe. “First I have to ask, who do you work for, really.”

Daehyun eyebrows rose in ‘confusion,’ as he leaned back, signifying the proper body language of someone who was puzzled. “I believe it says that in my resume,” he stated simply, and Seoyeon merely smiled.

“Ahh, yes, your ‘resume’ is very impressive, but I know a forged license when I see one,” she replied, and Daehyun leaned back with a calm expression.

      “Ah?”

“Are you denying it?” She asked, and Daehyun smiled, his lips curling into a rather attractive expression all set out to make him look friendly.

“Yoo Seoyeon-ssi, do you know how many government officials I’ve protected,” Daehyun replied, and Seoyeon was slightly surprised at how quickly he found his voice. “I have made many enemies in my line of work, and sometimes it is completely necessary to change my identity every once and a while to keep myself and others, safe.”

Seoyeon blinked a couple times before she let out a calm smile.

“Ah. And what about the credentials? Are those also changed to keep you safe?” She asked and Daehyun almost smirked at her rather pointed accusation.

“I assure you, double check them. Triple-check them. They are all quite genuine.” He took a sip of water after speaking and carefully watched as her lips curled into a smirk.

“I must say, I wasn’t expecting the license to actually be a fake.” She let out a tiny smile, which he almost surprised him. “It was a test, but I am rather satisfied with your composure. It really is a very good forgery.”

Daehyun smiled slightly into his water, but made no motion to comment back.

“I should probably tell you a bit about my brother.”

Ahh. So I got the job. Daehyun 1- He pouted when he realized he didn’t have an opponent for his imaginary scoreboard, but for the most part made no move to show his disappointment.

⚉—••—⚇

“I really don’t see why I need another bodyguard.” Youngjae stated into the phone, his attention on his midterm paper while jotting down little notes in the margin to the right with his pen.  His eyes had massive bags, but he made no move to take a break. “I rather like Hyun Jong.”

“You mean Kyung.” His sister replied with a swift roll of her eyes. “Yes. I heard about how much you liked him when I found him trapped in the basement after two days of solitary confinement.”

“Was it that long? Time flies when you’re studying. Not that you’d know.” Youngjae stated, flipping a page in his biochemistry textbook for extra measure of force.

“Is that sass I hear?” Seoyeon commented, her voice riddled with warning. “Did you sass me?”

“Of course not.” Youngjae replied, turning another page. “Is it rude to state the truth?”

“Ha. Ha. Ha.” Seoyeon laughed, her tone not in the slightest amused. “Listen here you rude little jerk. I have let your little escapades go unpunished for quite a while, but you so much as think about taking your rebellious teenage years on the new guy, then I will lock you up in your room like Cinderella and make you take online classes.”

“Cinderella wasn’t locked in her room.” Youngjae replied simply. “I think you mean Rapunzel.”

“Regardless, no amount of flowing hair will get you out.”

“Oh no. Whatever will I do?” Youngjae stated, still focused on the paper.

“Aish. Disrespectful little jerk.” She stated back, casting a look of disapproval into the phone.

“Anyway, I have more productive things to do.” Youngjae hung up, but her loud cry of “YAH!” was heard from his phone before the line went dead.

He made no sign of emotion as he continued scribbling notes, and nor did he look up as the chair across from him was suddenly filled. He was quite good at blocking out the presence of others.

That is until the noisy tune of Pokémon suddenly filled the crowded library and echoed off the once quiet walls. Youngjae slowly glanced up without moving his head as the man turned up the volume.

The guy wore a rather stylish black suit along with a white top underneath, although the nice clothes didn’t really go well with the boyish expression on his face as his thumbs played with the buttons of the device.

He of course wasn’t the only one giving the guy an annoyed expression, as the once quiet library was filled with students trying to study for very important midterm exams. Youngjae was almost impressed at just how well the stranger was able to ignore them all and continue playing the obnoxiously loud game.

“Go Fennekin. Kick his .” The man hissed out. “We can’t lose to a leaf type.”

At this point Youngjae was almost impressed at just how effortlessly the guy was ignoring all the glares, including Youngjae who was directly across from him.

Youngjae’s eyes continued to narrow, but he scoffed and leaned back when he saw that it was having no effect. Personally insulted, he went back to jotting down notes and ignoring the sound.

“Do you mind?” Stated a woman, causing the guy to slightly glance at her.

“Yeah. You are kind of bothering me. Go away,” the guy replied, and the girl stared at him for a silent minutes before walking away annoyed and offended.

Youngjae’s lip curled in frustration as he read the same sentence for the fifth time, but made no move to tell the guy to quiet down out of personal pride that seemed to mean more than his sanity.

The man easily dismissed the next few people who tried to politely get him to stop or put on headphones. At that point Youngjae began to pack up his stuff, quiet ready to leave.

The man across from him instantly closed his DS as soon as Youngjae stood up. Youngjae narrowed his eyes as the guy stood up too, and followed Youngjae out of the library, ignoring all the relieved expressions of the college students left alone inside.

“What are you doing?” Youngjae asked as the guy continued to follow him.

“Being a bodyguard.” The man replied, and Youngjae’s eyes instantly narrowed.

“You? She hired you.” Youngjae stated incredulously.

“Jung Daehyun.” He casually introduced. “Makes you regret being a little to the others, huh?” Daehyun slightly smirked, and Youngjae got the impression of arrogance even though all negative emotions were unintelligible.

      “You.” Youngjae repeated.

“’If you have any complainants then you can go to community college and use the extra money to pay for your own bodyguard or use it to kiss your own ’ Your sister said,” Daehyun stated, blinking mindlessly.

      "She said that?"

"I may have paraphrased a bit in the beginning."

Youngjae’s face scrunched and he instantly turned to walk away, finding the soundless steps of Daehyun close behind him. Youngjae came to an abrupt halt.

“Don’t follow me.” He ordered and Daehyun raised a brow.

“But it’s the highlight of my job,” Daehyun replied, and even though his sentence could be taken sarcastic, his lack of tone made it hard for Youngjae to distinguish if the other was toying with him.

“Listen. I’ve had many different types of security surrounding all the time, I have learned quite a few tricks from experience. Are you sure you want to do this? I am giving you the chance to quit. You should take it.” Youngjae said simply, and Daehyun suddenly raised his palm flat in front of him towards the other. “What are you doing?”

“You think I’m free. I’m like a high-class hooker. If you want me to leave you alone, you have to pay me like a one.” Daehyun replied, and Youngjae’s face went blank.

      “I don’t have any money.”

“Ahh. And your sister does. I hate to play favorites, but you know what they say, ‘money buys you happiness.’” The man stated simply, to which Youngjae made no expression.

“I am pretty sure the expression is, ‘money doesn’t buy you happiness.’”

“Tell that to my new DS. I am very happy.”

“What kind of grown man plays games?”

      “One with money.”

I hate this guy. Youngjae thought with a frown as realized that his life was about to get annoying.

Author's Note

You guys are all so sweet. I wasn't expecting so many good replies to this story when I began it, and I am really satisfied with any amount of people who enjoy it.

I am really in it for Karma points so I can achieve my dream of changing my damn username that I foolishly inputed. Ahh, someday. The goal is almost there. Almost.

Anyway, that wasn't me fishing for donations, just my hopes and aspirations. Heh.

***Update: A very lovely user donated karma to me. It was the sweetest thing ever. I AM NOW RULEROFCATS! HAHAHAHAHAH.

I SHALL TAKE OVER THE WORLD! CAT ARMY AWAIT!!!!

I really like villianious characters, and I hope to get into character development as the chapters drag on, as that's always my favorite part. It goes: character development, plot, booty, ecchi, and then romance.

Romance builds from the booty.

Um. Idk. It's like 6 am and I had a lot of Modafinil and I feel like a pinata of (perscription) drugs. Study study study.

Anyway. I am going to the B.A.P concert on the 22 April. Super excited. I'm gonna be all emotional when I get home and Imma cry cause I love them so much, but it's okay. I got booze to use like medicine.

It did make me sad that I couldn't insert that emoji with actual text, so I was forced to place in a screenshot :o

Shame. Shame.

Hope you liked the chapter. Ul'Yana out.
