Summary: A cat brings Kyungsoo and Jongin together

A scratching sound to his left catches Kyungsoo’s attention.

He casually looks up from the paper he’s typing to see what had caused the sound, looking right back at his monitor when he doesn’t find anything out of the ordinary.

The sound happens again however, coupled with a meow this time, and Kyungsoo’s thoughts organize themselves a bit so he could be curious about the sound outside. So he stands up, brain taking an unplanned break as he investigates what causes the sounds outside his fourth floor dorm window on a really late school night.

“What…” Kyungsoo mutters as he gets closer to the netted window, a hunched figure sitting against his narrow window sill.

“Meow.” The figure morphs into a cat as Kyungsoo registers the sounds as mewls and claw scratches, a little perplexed and confused as to how a cat has managed to reach his window out of all the other rooms.

The cat stands on all fours, a paw slipping a little over the sill. The cat meows and presses its face on the screen, melting Kyungsoo’s heart a little.

He lifts the mesh screen up immediately, reasoning with himself that he’s just being a good samaritan worrying over the cat’s welfare instead of admitting that he was moved by the feline cuteness. The cat immediately jumps in, landing on its soft paws on Kyungsoo’s wooden floor. The cat walks around slowly, probably trying to familiarize itself with its new surroundings, occasionally looking back at Kyungsoo.

He sits himself on the floor, leaning his back against the wall as he observes the cute cat, which is actually still a kitten upon closer inspection, walk about his small dorm room; his papers temporarily forgotten.

A number of minutes actually pass before Kyungsoo contemplates that this cat probably has an owner looking for it, and that said owner might actually be one of the tenants living in the same floor as his. There was no other way the cat might have reached the roof without going through one of the room windows on the fourth floor anyway, as the said floor is actually the last one in the dorm building, with no rooftop whatsoever.

Kyungsoo doesn’t want to give the cat back though, as it had already won over his heart the moment it decided to set its little paws on his lap. He coos, reaching out to pet it behind its ears. He’s rewarded with a satisfied purr and a lapful of kitten.

He smiles to himself and thinks that he probably won’t be getting up for a long time.

Kyungsoo was right.

He just sat there, letting the kitten decorate his lap with its black and white fur, his sweatpants suffering from his feline weakness as the kitten scratches it with her little claws.

He hasn’t even noticed that almost an hour has passed since he stood up from his computer desk, the rapt knocks on his door bringing him back from his feline-induced elation.

He yells “coming!” so he could be heard from the other side. The knocks stop and he gets on his feet, bringing the kitty up with him. He cradles it carefully in his arms, the kitten looking back at him and digging her claws a little at the feelings of being lifted. She meows once and Kyungsoo clicks his tongue once to calm her.

He opens the door and is pleasantly surprised to see the quiet guy from the farthest room on the floor. He’s dyed his hair pink now, accentuating his tanned skin a little too prettily for his eyes.

The boy is staring at him and at the little bundle of fur between his arms too, pouty mouth slightly agape.

“I--i was looking for her for hours.”

Kyungsoo notes the low tone of the other, surprising himself when his heart beats a little faster against his will. The kitten probably felt this as she let out a little mewl.

“Oh, is she yours?” he asks as he hands her over. Their fingers brush and a spark of electricity courses up his arm. He pulls away, hands cold and clammy as he looks at the other who looks just as startled as he is.

“She-She’s actually a friends; i’m cat-sitting for him.”

“Oh.” They stand there for a few beats of awkward silence, staring at each other but not saying anything.

The cat meows to save their awkward souls.

The guy clears his throat.“So, um. Thank you for keeping her for a while, I guess? I would’ve gotten in so much trouble if I hadn’t found her.” Then he grins, radiant and all-too blinding. Kyungsoo resists the urge to swoon and/or squint.

“I-it’s no problem, she’s a sweetheart.” Kyungsoo smiles back hesitantly, looking a little constipated, he’s sure. He drops his smile after the required two seconds.

“Oh!” the other exclaims suddenly. “I’m Jongin, by the way. I occupy the last room on this floor.” He holds the kitten with one hand and offers the other to Kyungsoo.

Kyungsoo almost blurts out an ‘i know’, holding his tongue back last minute. “Hi, nice to meet you, Jongin. I’m Kyungsoo, the tenant living in room 404.”

He reaches for the others hand, grasping it firmly and reveling in the sparks that form against their touching palms, the current slowly spreading up in pleasant spikes up his arm.
