PART 6

Skool Luv Affair

“Byebye,” Hani chirped to her mother.

The school was still deserted as she went through the gates. Hani had developed the habit of coming to school early, because the school actually looked nice and peaceful in the early morning. Plus she could stretch and walk around without feeling conscious about herself. And in all those early mornings, she hadn’t been bothered once, which suited her fine.

She clasped her hands at the back of her hand and stretched it to the sky. The pass few weeks, granted weird and troublesome because of her recent encounters with Bangtan, it was worth it because she had made friends. And it was fun.

“Bimyeong.”

Hani gave a scream before turning around. Her heart rate didn’t slow down the least when she saw the shock of orange/red hair. She quickly turned her heel but V grabbed her ponytail and tugged her back.

“Don’t even try,” his deep voice commanded.

“W-what do you want?” Hani asked, not turning around.

Something thumped her forehead, right in front of her was a water bottle. She cocked her head thoughtfully. Could it be the same water bottle that she had given him in her first day?

“You know I hate inconsistency?” That timbre of a voice was right next to her ear.

“How’s that my business?”

“It’s your business because you gave me water, I like water, so you have to give me water at the beginning of every morning of the rest of the school year plus throw in a week or two weeks worth of water coupon.”

Hani frowned at his logic, she stomped her feet and spun around to face him. It was the first time she had ever seen his face so close, the orange/red fringes were messed up in front of eyes and his hair was sticking out in odd angles. Bed hair.

“And why would I?”

“Good deeds should be consistent,” he stated.

Hani opened but closed it again. He’s right. “But I don’t necessarily have to give you water every day for the rest of the school year!”

“You have to and you will,” V said in a decisive tone.

“Or else what?”

His face suddenly came in so close so suddenly that Hani had to stop breathing.

“Or else I get mad.”

That simple statement seemed so profound that Hani couldn’t help but nod in agreement. She released her breath when he stepped away.

“Wait, I don’t even know your name!”

“You don’t have to,” he said dismissively.

Hani looked at his retreating figure, not just his retreating figure but she looked at his hair. It was sticking out really badly, he could probably get a signal for Disney channel with that kind of hair, even watch the news or steal a signal from a nearby satellite.

“Oi, Olenji!” She called out.

V suddenly paused in his tracks. Olenji?

When he didn’t turn around, Hani came up to him. V looked at the girl, surprised. What the is she doing?

“Your hair,” she huffed as if answering his question, she started to pat down the static-electrified hair that he had.

“Do you know the invention called a comb or are you just planning on trying to steal a signal to watch Disney or HBO?” Hani giggled at her own joke.

“…Star Movies.”

Hani looked at him, shocked that he replied and burst out laughing.

“Ah, I’m sorry but your antennas are all gone now though, there, better, it really was bothering me,” she smiled.

V just stared at her.

She shifted uncomfortably, “I’m going to go now,” she said in a small voice.

Did she just become a water girl and a hair stylist for a Bangtan member in less than 5 minutes? What was wrong with her? Hani just stiffly walked down the hallways, it was a stupid habit she got from her mother who always fixed her hair when she went around the house without caring about how she looked. When she was younger her mother used to chase her around the house with a comb.

Hani mentally slapped herself.

“Hanniiiii~” Se Mi drifted to her seat.

Hani looked up from her seat where she had been recently sleeping. Damn her pills, her mother couldn’t find non-drowsy ones, they were always out of stock.

“Afternoon there sleepy head,” Mark smiled, appearing out of nowhere.

“Oppa? What are you doing here?"

The rest were already gathering around.

“They freed us until last period, although I don’t know why, anyway, they pulled me out to play football,” he explained.

Hani looked at everyone with a blank expression.

“You still have a drool right there,” JB pointed at the corners of his mouth.

Hani blushed before swiping with her hand but Mark had already took out his handkerchief and wiped it for her. She blushed even more, embarrassed and then made for his handkerchief.

“I’m going to wash this…” she mumbled.

“Coommee oonn, leett’ss pplaayyy!” Jackson jumped up and down alongside JR.

“Yeah, it’s actually more fun than it sounds, we girls don’t have to follow the rules, so we can jump on them or bite them however we want,” Yoo Ra snickered evilly.

“This little witch left me a bite mark once, A BITE MARK! What kind of normal girl does that seriously?!” JR shouted.

“… Damn, I haven’t given her shots yet,” Jackson muttered, earning a thump on the head from Yoo Ra

Football? Hani had only seen that in tv, it looked brutal with the tackling and dog piles but as she looked at her friends, she couldn’t help but feel excited. She was just going to play for a while, like a few minutes and then rest, in interval, maybe then she wouldn’t need her medicine.

“Game, only us?”

“Nope, the maknae’s should be here-” Yoo Ra hadn’t finished the sentences when a pair of bodies whizzed pass their room and then sounded as if they landed on the floor.

“ we missed it!”

A few seconds later a hand appeared by the door, followed by a head streaked with purple but his head was being pulled back by another hand.

“HAH I MADE IT FIRS-HUMMFFPPHHGGUURRGGHH” the purple streaked boy’s head was being pulled back now, the hand had completely covered the face and pulled harder.

“NOT YET YOU HAVEN’T!” another voice came.

The two boys suddenly came in view, they were both wrestling just outside the classroom door. At one point the over boy stuck his fingers up the purple streaked boy’s noise of which that boy bit the free fingers near his mouth.

“ BAMBAM!”

“I swear,” another boy appeared by the doorway, shaking his head at the two boys rolling around.

“Ah, yongjae!” JR called the younger boy who gladly went into the room.

“Annyeong,” he chirped.

“That’s Hani by the way, she’s going to kick with us today,” Jackson pointed at Hani who smiled and waved.

“Run… get out while you still can,” the smile immediately vanished when he said that.

“Mwuh?” Hani asked, suddenly scared.

The smile broke out again, “I’m just kidding noona, this is going to fun.”

Hani gave a smile of relief and then looked at the two boys before looking at Mark and the others.

“UUm… shouldn’t we be doing something?” She asked uncertainly.

“Nah, just leave them be, COME OONNN!” Jackson jumped and went out the door as if the two boys weren’t there. The others followed right behind him, ignoring the two bodies. Even Mark followed, only throwing a grin at the two boys. Hani stayed behind, squatting just a few feet in front of them.

Finally, the other boys succeeded in crawling inside.

“HAH I WON- where are the hyungs?” he looked around the nearly deserted classroom.

“Um, they’d already left…” Hani smiled.

“Ah, you’re Hani noona aren’t you?” Bambam sat up, dusting himself.

“How’d you know?”

“The mole under your eye,” the other one sat up as well and got up to his feet by the help of Bambam.

Hani touched the little dot under her eye and smiled, “how’d you know?”

“Mark hyung told us,” they smiled.

“I’m Yugyeom and this is Bambam, it’s nice to meet you noona.”

Hani noted Yugyeom was the taller one with the slightly long hair, even at a young age Hani could already tell he was going to grow into an extremely good looking man. And Bambam was the most adorable boy she had ever seen, she just wanted to squish those cheeks, of course, she didn’t.

“Why would Mark mention my mole,” Hani laughed, the two boys exchanged a look.

“Anyway, we should go before they destroy the ball,” Hani suggested.

“You know they actually did that once?” Bambam said.

“What? A football? How can anyone destroy a football? It’s a football made for giant apes!”

The boys laughed, “you’d be surprised of what we can do.”

It had already been 5 minutes into the game but Yoo Ra was already riding JB like a wild bull in a ring. Hani hugged her stomach and laughed.

“GODDAMIT YOO RA I SWEAR ASHSKDHFDLASJ-”

Yoo Ra stuffed a bunch of grass she had in her fist and stuffed it in his mouth before biting on his hand. He gave a shout before letting the ball go.

“HANI GET THE BALL I CAN’T HOLD ON ANY LONGER!”

Without the ball, JB could already handle the woman on his back. Hani laughed before lunging for the ball. The people in her team were Yoo Ra, Yugyeom, Jackson and Yongjae. It was such a relief she was in the same team as Yoo Ra because the girl was bananas on the field.

“PASS IT TO ME NOONA!” Yongjae shouted as he waved his arms in the air trying to dodge Se Mi, JR and Bambam were being held back by Jackson who was surprisingly strong while Mark was being held up by Yugyeom who was quick on his feet.

“She’s as heartless as ever,” Jackson shook his head.

Hani tossed it to Yugyeom and then blocked Se Mi so he could get to their make-shift goal post. Her heart was pumping loud and fast but it hadn’t hurt, so far so good.

“TOUCH DOWN!” Yongjae whooped as the rest of the team gathered into a circle.

“YAH YOO RA, THAT WAS FOUL PLAY!” JB fumed at the smirking Yoo Ra.

“I thought girls had no rules,” she said cheekily.

“But that was just sneaky noona! And dirty too,” Bambam whinned.

“It was Yoo,” Hani shyly agreed, she didn’t want to go against the first girl friend she made in school but it was unfair.

Yoo Ra raised her hand when she saw everyone ganging up on her, “fine, ffiinnnneeeeee, no dirty tricks, ccrooss my heeaarrtt,” she rolled her eyes.

The rest of the game was then extremely exhausting and fun. It was the most fun Hani had in her life, she had even climbed JR at one point because he had taken the ball out from her reach. Everyone had already soiled their clothes but they didn’t care.

Hani ran across the field to the goal post when suddenly she didn’t feel the ground beneath her feet, she blinked and screamed only to realize that she was being carried!

Mark was carrying her to the opposite goal post!

“OPPPAA!” She screamed but laughed at the same time at the absurdity of the game.

Just then Yugyeom appeared out of nowhere and slung her over his shoulder before running to their goal post. She just hung there feeling like a sack of potatoes as she clutched the ball safely in her arms.

“WHAT?!” she laughed.

“WE’RE ALMOST THERE NOONA!” he shouted.

From her view she could see half of the others chasing after them and the other half laughing at her situation. She waved her hands at them before landing on the ground with an “oof!”

“GGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL~” Yongjae ran around Yugyeom and Hani with his hands in the air.

The hit on the ground had been unexpectedly strong which knocked the shaky control Hani had over her body. She clutched her chest, trying to keep the wheezing from showing. Her medicine was in the classroom. So far.

“I-I-I have to get my w-water from the classroom you guys,” she managed to choke out.

The others had mistaken it from panting and nodded at her with big smiles on their faces. She struggled on her feet, her hand glued to her chest.

“Are you okay?” an arm appeared by her side, supporting her.

“I’m okay oppa, just t-tired,” she said in a half whisper.

Mark looked down at her concerned, “really?”

She managed to flash a smile at him, “I’ll be back in 5 minutes.”

The look on his face told her that he still wasn’t convinced but he let go of her anyway as she tried to keep her composure all the way to the building. was slowly tensing up and constricting, the bitter taste of panic rose up into as she frantically wheezed.

Her muscles were already groaning in protest as she struggled up the stairs, the rush was deafening in her ears and her vision was getting blurry. The hallways were deserted as she fell on her knees, she couldn’t stand anymore. The pain was so painful that she could no longer stand straight.

“A-a-anyone…” her plead was in a whisper.

Anyone. She could no longer open and her vision was getting dark in the edges, like a faded photograph.

Something hard nudged her arm, she pried her eyes open even that was tiring. Something orange?

“Please…” she whispered as she pointed to her classroom that was just down the hallway.

And then everything went black.

“HHHHHUUUUUUUHHHHHHH!”

Hani immediately sat up at the gulp of air, the motion caused her a head rush as she cradled her head in her hands. What happened? The last thing she remembered she was… her head snapped in attention.

She was lying on the floor, but the floor was covered with a curtain and there was a soft make shift pillow under her head. This wasn’t her classroom, she wondered but why was her bag by her side?

“You’re finally awake,” Hani almost screamed at the voice, expecting to see the orange haired boy but instead she saw someone else.

Jin raised his eyebrows, “expecting someone else?”

Hani’s eyes scoured the entire room, she was in his room where they first met!

“I wasn’t expecting anyone at all,” she mumbled.

Jin stood up from the table and threw a box near her feet. It was her box of medicine, Jin took a chair and sat right at her foot.

“I followed the instructions in the box, something tells me that this near-death-collapsing-out-of-nowhere is normal,” he speculated.

Thank you captain obvious, Hani thought but held her tongue. She couldn’t be rude to the person who’d rescued her life, even if it was her fault for playing hard.

“Ah, the others!”

The look on his face didn’t waver.

“I told them off,” he said as if he was stating the weather.

“What?! You could’ve-” Hani stopped when his eyes narrowed on her.

She huffed out a frustrated sigh, she could apologize to them tomorrow but right now though, she had other matters to attend to.

“Did you get the-”

“Red pills,” Jin finished running his eyes up and down her, trying to find out what exactly was wrong with her. Hani shuffled uncomfortably under his scrutiny.

“Good, that’s good, so um,” Hani slowly pushed herself off the ground when Jin magically appeared by her side and began pushing her down.

Her eyes widened in surprise, “w-w-w-w-w-what are you doing?!”

“Don’t flatter yourself, the box said you have to be lying down for a few minutes or the medicine’s effect won’t be enough,” he lectured.

Oh yeah, Hani mentally slapped herself. She had only needed that red pills a few times in her life, at most she used the red pills 4 times a year so she wasn’t used to the medicine.

“… sorry,” she mumbled.

As she stared at the ceiling, she was very conscious of the man beside her make shift bed. And then she remembered, she took the soft pillow from her head ever so reluctantly.

“This is yours,” Hani handed Jin his school jacket.

“Use it,” he waved his hand dismissively.

Hani looked at the guy in front of her, despite the indifferent vibes he was giving off, it wasn’t the same as the cold shoulder he had given her the first day. He must have felt sorry for her. As she tucked the jacket back under her head, she spoke.

“I hope you don’t pity me,” she stated.

This caused Jin to snap his attention back at her.

“Says who?” he snapped rather defensively before he could stop himself.

Hani shrugged. Jin looked at her, the friendly and animated look on her face was gone, it was replaced by another look. A look that told him she was used to this kind of loneliness, on her back, facing the ceiling while everyone she knew carried on with their smiles and laughter without her. He knew someone who once felt that way too. He wondered what was wrong with her.

“It’s a rare disorder,” Hani was compelled to say, answering Jin’s secret question unknowingly.

“My immunity isn’t strong so I get sick easily, and when I do, it always takes a turn for the worse but on a normal day basis I am just weak, occasional arrhythmia, lethargy, nausea and etc. There’s no cure yet but treatment is available,” Hani explained, she didn’t know why she felt compelled a total stranger this.

“You treat them separately,” Jin finished.

“Yup,” Hani replied quietly.

Silence fell between them.

“… but other than that I’m a normal high school student with hormones and dreams and everything,” Hani immediately beamed as she pushed herself off the ground.

Because she had stayed on the ground for too long, it felt as if her body was heavier than it actually was. But Jin silently took her arms and helped her up on to her feet. She looked at him surprised.

He will stare you to death. That’s what all Se Mi said. And the fact that Hani hadn’t seen him beat up anyone helped her relax ever so slightly against him.

“…thank you,” Hani managed to say when he set her back on her feet, she rendered even more speechless when he picked up her med box, placed it in her box and gave it to her. She looked at him with those big eyes wide in surprise that Jin couldn’t meet her gaze.

She didn’t know he was-

“Now get out,” he snapped.

-an . Hani glared at him as she stomped out the room, but she didn’t hold her resentment for a second longer. She looked over her shoulder and saw his figure standing by the windows, his face unfathomable.

She wore her bag and went home alone. The sun had already set by the time she had covered halfway. She took it nice and slow, not trusting her body. But it was fine because she could appreciate her surroundings, the people who bustled by, the couples holding hands and the children playing around. It was nice being up and about.

But how come she couldn’t shake off the feeling as if she’s being followed? In the first place, why would she be followed? It doesn’t make sense.

She shook her head and looked down at her feet to kick a pebble.

A shadow.

She was being followed!
