Foreword

This is a story of good versus evil. The concept should be simple enough, but it really is not. This is a story about a female that sacrificed everything, including her nature, to protect the greater good. Her sacrifice was altruist to the point that she didn’t care about the 12 souls she crushed in the process when she perished.

The story begins in the old world, when demons were wreaking havoc on the world. At the time the humans were a newly born race and therefore innocent. The demons of course, thought the humans were weak and wanted to crush them. The angels were distraught because they chose to protect and love the humans. However, they were not sure how well they could protect them.

There were three species before the humans. The angels who were the epitome of good. The demons that were the most evil creatures. Finally, there were the Jinn. They were neither good or bad. They had free will but they were as powerful as the angels and demons. They were creatures of fire just like angels were made of pure light.

A group of angels decided to pay the Jinn a visit. Jinn were nomads but many could be found in the desert. Upon reaching the desert they came upon a tribe of Jinn. They had a lengthy conversation with the two leaders, explaining to them that they needed help to try to control the demon population.

“Not our problem,” one of the leaders snapped. The other leader nodded but unlike the first leader, he gave the angels sympathetic looks. One of the angels looked panicked. “But-”

“Not our problem,” the first leader said firmly. He stood up. The angels and other jinn stood up as well. “If you’re done, you can leave now-”

“But-”

“Not OUR problem. At least we’re not part of the group you’re trying to control,” the first leader snapped. That much was true. Many jinn did not like the humans so they became demons in order to destroy them.

“Kris? Suho?” What’s going on?” a soft voice asked, breaking the tension. All heads turned towards the feminine voice. She stood there in her traditional clothing, her long dark hair flying in the wind. Her dark eyes looked at each face with curiosity. Some of the angels looked at her in shock. She was a Silla, or a very powerful female jinn. She radiated of seduction, many of the angels had to look away.

“They need help controlling the demons. The humans are falling prey to them and they’re suffering,” Suho said. The angels nodded in agreement.

“BUT they want us to take human forms in order to do so!!!! Can you believe it????” The one name Kris thundered. His form was shaking and his eyes were alight as though his eyes were on fire.

“Kris, if the angels need our help, then we have to help them. It’s our duty,” the female jinni said calmly. Kris shook his head. “We have free will Hana, we don’t have to take orders-”

“If the angels are asking for our help, we should consider it our honour. Our destiny even.”

“But-”

“Shhh,” she held the face of the first leader so that they were seeing eye to eye. She whispered to him. Whatever she was saying was making the 11 other jinns smirk. Kris was proud, even more so by jinn standards. Only someone like Hana could make Kris and the others give up their true forms and take on a human form.

And so they took human forms and lived in a nearby village. The 12 jinns and Silla were as happy as they could be. They protected the humans without showing them their true forms, even though the humans had suspicions that their saviours were not who they claimed to be.

Then one night, everything changed. No one but Hana knows the true story. All we can say is one dark night Hana overheard something she wasn’t suppose to. Whatever it was, it drove her mad. She muttered it under her breath, her eyes rolling around and her body twitched. Her 12 jinns were worried about her but they just figured that their Hana was going crazy due to her restrained form.

That was not the case.

The tribal leader for the group of the demons in the area knew that Hana knew something she wasn’t suppose to. He had to destroy her.

He killed her the next night. It’s not easy to kill a Jinni. Hana first needed to get rid of her human body. That’s what he did. The humans and the jinn stood in shock and horror and the demons lit their beloved Hana on fire, breaking her free of her human body. It seems almost like he was doing her a favour but that was not his intention.

A Jinn’s worst enemy was water. Jinns were made of fire after all. When Hana retained her true form, the demon quickly doused her with water, weakening her….maybe even kill her.

There was chaos. The 12 Jinn ripped apart their human forms and began to attack demons and humans alike.

During the madness, a weakened Hana fled. She had the strength to take her far away. She knew she had save the innocent, even though her beloved tribe will mourn her death. She will take that punishment, rather than see the worlds get ripped to shreds.

The Earth began to shake and the demons and angels felt a strange tug. When a Jinni is about to die, they become powerful enough to pull off the impossible. Hana did a spell that would send the angels back to heaven and the demons to hell. They would not be able to escape unless Hana herself says so. When the chaos disappeared, the jinns rushed over to where Hana’s corpse was suppose to be.

“It’s...it’s not here,” Kai croaked. They looked around but could not find their beloved Hana. Kris shook his head, his anger rising. “She left us. She actually left us!”

“Kris, let’s not jump to conclusions-”

“SHE LEFT US!!!!!” Kris roared. The others winced at his anger. Kris pondered for a moment. “I’m going to go look for her.”

“But hyung-”

"You can mourn or do whatever YOU want. I’m going to go look for her,” Kris declared. With that, he left to search for his Hana...alone.

For Centuries, Hana hid away. She hid in dreary caves and dark holes. That was how precious the secret she was carrying. A secret that could possibly destroy everyone she has ever cared about. Finally, one day she came across a couple in distress. Jinns had the power to feel people’s desires. Hana realized that this couple wanted a child.

“This is the perfect opportunity,” Hana muttered to herself. She sighed. If she implanted herself to become this couple’s child there was a chance that she would not remember her true form. Could she risk it?

Yes, because she had to protect those she loved. With that, she whispered a goodbye to her beloved tribe and implanted herself into the womb of the woman.

What happens next, nobody knew for a long time. Of course the couple must have been thrilled to have a child, a child they would dote on, become overly protective of this child.

There has always been a saying: Nothing stays a secret forever.

This is Hana’s story.
